The New England Patriots are taking on the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday, which is as good an excuse as any to revisit the Rams’ awesome music video from the 1980s, “Let’s Ram It.”
That classic tune got us thinking: what are the top 10 fight songs in the NFL today? Here’s our final verdict.
10. Cleveland Browns — “Hi-O, Hi-O for Cleveland”
Cleveland’s fight song is flat-out full of lies. Some of the lyrics include “for the greatest team in the land,” “where we play the best football” and “to the greatest pro team of all.” The 0-10 Browns probably should worry about winning a game before they play this one at home games.
9. Green Bay Packers — “Go! You Packers Go!”
The Packers’ fight song is pretty boring. As you can imagine from the title, most of the song is just saying “Go Packers” in one form of another. However, the last line of the song is “Fight and bring the bacon home to old Green Bay.” Bacon is good.
8. Detroit Lions — “Gridiron Heroes”
Much like the Packers’, there isn’t much substance to the Lions’ fight song. Maybe that’s why they’ve never appeared in a Super Bowl despite being around since the 1930s.
7. Cincinnati Bengals — “Bengals Growl”
The Bengals’ fight song features some pretty straight forward lyrics, namely, “Get some points up on that board and win a game.” Sounds simple enough; why don’t all teams do that?
6. Chicago Bears — “Bear Down, Chicago Bears”
One of lyrics in the Bears’ fight song is, “We’ll never forget the way you thrilled the nation.” While Bears fans might remember what they’re alluding to, it is doubtful other fans would. It is hard to remember the last time Chicago did something memorable.
5. Washington Redskins — “Hail to the Redskins”
We’re not even sure how long this team will be called the Redskins, so a new fight song might be in order soon.
4. Miami Dolphins — “Miami Dolphins #1”
The Dolphins also have a song with misleading lyrics, including “When you say Miami, you’re talkin’ Super Bowl.” Maybe the songwriters should readjust the lyrics to “When you say Miami, you’re talkin’ painfully mediocre.” The song does feature a banjo, though. Who doesn’t love a good banjo?
3. Minnesota Vikings — “Skol Vikings”
The key to a good fight song is keeping it short and sweet. Fans aren’t looking for a 10-minute ballad. The Vikings’ song is catchy and gets to the point.
2. Philadelphia Eagles –“Fly Eagles Fly”
Say what you want about Eagles fans, or Philadelphia fans in general, but hearing 70,000 people at Lincoln Financial Field yell “E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!,” is pretty cool.
1. San Diego Chargers — “San Diego Super Chargers”
You might actually want to add the Chargers’ fight song to your music library; it’s that good. The Chargers haven’t won a Super Bowl, but they undoubtedly have the NFL’s best fight song.
