Patriots Odds: New England Heavily Favored In Road Matchup Against 49ers
The New England Patriots will look to rebound from last weekend’s 31-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks when they travel to San Francisco on Sunday to face the struggling 49ers as heavy 13-point betting favorites at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Last week’s loss ended a four-game straight-up winning streak for the Patriots. But with a 7-2 record, New England remains firmly in control of the top spot in the AFC East ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Patriots vs. 49ers betting matchup at Levi’s Stadium.
Pats quarterback Tom Brady failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time in five appearances and also tossed his first interception of the season against Seattle. Brady also failed to get the Patriots into the end zone from inside the 2-yard line in the dying moments of the contest, turning over the ball on downs to seal the Seahawks’ victory.
The defeat marked the Patriots’ third outright loss in their last seven games while favored at home by seven or more points, but the club has been outstanding away from Gillette Stadium this season, winning and covering in four straight.
New England has claimed victory by double-digit margins in each of its past three road dates, most recently handing the division-rival Buffalo Bills a 41-25 beating as 5 1/2-point chalk in Week 8. That followed a 27-16 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers as seven-point road favorites a week earlier.
The Patriots also have shown resilience in the face of defeat, rebounding to win SU in 16 of their past 19 games immediately following a loss. Conversely, it has been a lost season for the 49ers, who have lost eight straight since posting a 28-0 season-opening win over the Los Angeles Rams, leaving them dead last in the NFC with a 1-8 record.
The 49ers kept it close last weekend, forcing the Arizona Cardinals to kick a last-second field goal to earn a 23-20 win. San Francisco picked up the against-the-spread win as a 13 1/2-point underdog in the desert, ending a seven-game ATS slide.
However, the 49ers return to the coast pegged as double-digit underdogs on home turf for the first time in 10 years. The 49ers are just 1-5 SU in their past six games when pegged as home underdogs of 10 or more points, averaging just 12.5 points per game, but managed to cover in two of their past four such outings.
San Francisco also is just 1-3 SU in its past four overall against New England, but has enjoyed historical success in home dates with the Patriots, going 3-1 SU in the teams’ past four meetings.
