If you’re a Formula 1 fan who likes watching the 24 Hours of Le Mans, you won’t need to choose one or the other to watch next year.
The World Motorsport Council in Vienna approved a revised version of the 2017 F1 schedule, which features a new date for the European Grand Prix to avoid clashing with Le Mans for the second straight year, Motorsport.com reports.
The European Grand Prix was on the same weekend as the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016, and it looked as though that would be the case again in 2017. A provisional F1 calendar released in September had the same conflict, even though the FIA announced the date for Le Mans well in advance to avoid just that situation.
To compensate for the European Grand Prix’s new date, the Austrian and British races have been pushed back to July 9 and July 16, respectively. This has led to a new — albeit less significant — clash, as the Formula E New York ePrix is set to take place July 15 and 16.
Another notable change to the schedule is the removal of the German Grand Prix, which just returned to the championship in 2016 after a one-year absence.
