It’s safe to assume Bill Belichick approved of Rob Gronkowski’s latest off-the-field exploit.
Gronkowski, this year’s “Madden NFL 17” cover model, did his best Jon Bon Jovi impression in a newly released music video promoting the video game.
Clad in a blonde wig and leather jacket, the New England Patriots tight end belted out his own version of “Livin’ On a Prayer,” with the lyrics changed to include lines like, “My giant hands will make us champs, I swear.”
Asked about the video after Thursday’s Patriots practice, Gronkowski confirmed that, yes, that is his real singing voice.
“Yeah, it is,” he said. “It’s kind of average. I wish I could sing.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published Thursday, Gronkowski said he’s a fan of Bon Jovi — a longtime friend of Belichick’s who frequently visits Gillette Stadium — but would go in a slightly different direction if the “Madden” folks ever approached him about filming a sequel.
“If I had to do this again, I’d probably go with Vanilla and his song “Ice Ice Baby,” by Vanilla Ice,” Gronkowski told EW. “I feel like that would correspond with myself, in order to rap and sing “Madden” words to express why people should pick me on their “Madden” Ultimate Team. I feel like that would be a really fitting song to do it to.”
