Some things are more important than the game.
That is certainly the case for Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson, who has taken a leave of absence to be with his wife, who began her cancer treatment Wednesday.
Nicholle Anderson was diagnosed with throat cancer and started her radiation and chemotherapy treatments in New York.
Despite the unfortunate diagnosis, Nicholle’s spirits remain high, as seen in a tweet Wednesday morning.
Anderson will be out of action on Thursday when the Senators host the Philadelphia Flyers. Needham, Mass., native Mike Condon will serve as the Ottawa starter in Anderson’s absence.
This is not the first time Anderson has left the team to be with his wife, as he took a six-day leave of absence during training camp. He also took another personal leave on October 27th, only to return three days later to record a 2-0 shutout against the Edmonton Oilers.
In 18 games this season, Anderson is 12-5-1 with a .930 save average and a 2.20 goals against average. He’s also recorded three shutouts, good for second in the league.
