Ever since its inception, “Thursday Night Football” has been divisive for the NFL. While some people believe there never can be enough football, while others argue that Thursday night games produce an oversaturated, diminished product.
Regardless of how you feel, changes could be on the horizon.
The NFL reportedly will consider ending or limiting “Thursday Night Football,” ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio reported Sunday, citing a source with knowledge of the situation.
The report claims the league could consider a variety of changes to the package, including eliminating Thursday night broadcasts entirely, or starting Thursday night games at Thanksgiving and continuing them through the end of the season.
The NFL responded by shutting down the report and standing behind the Thursday night broadcast, per CNBC.
The league’s current contract with CBS and NBC runs through 2017, which means changes could be made as early as the 2018 season.
