Only one quarterback in the history of the NFL has won more games than Tom Brady. And Brady could pass him early next month.
The New England Patriots’ 30-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday was the 199th of Brady’s career, moving him into a tie with Hall of Famer Brett Favre for second in NFL history. Only Peyton Manning (200) has more.
Brady, whose first victory came Sept. 30, 2001, was at his very best in win No. 199, shredding his hometown 49ers for four touchdowns without turning the ball over. It was the 21st four-plus-touchdown, zero-interception game of Brady’s career, extending his own NFL record.
The Patriots led just 13-10 at halftime Sunday but came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring 17 points over the final 15 minutes to put the game away. Brady led the charge, completing five passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns in the final frame and showcasing some impressive elusiveness in the process.
“Tom played well,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick told reporters after the game. “It was a good offensive performance.”
Brady can tie Manning’s record next Sunday when the Patriots visit the New York Jets.
