In a move that resonates with many of us across the United States right now, Tom Brady is just sick of talking about politics.
Brady made his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Kirk and Callahan” on Monday, and though he promised last week that he would reveal who he voted for in the U.S. presidential election, the New England Patriots quarterback declined the opportunity to share the contents of his ballot.
“I know, I know, but I’m not talking politics anymore,” Brady said, as transcribed by WEEI.com. “I’ve got other things to worry about. Just speaking with my family, it’s a bad idea. I know I told you I would, and then after I told you I would I changed my mind.”
Brady was asked during a press conference last Wednesday about an answer he gave in which he alluded to not giving president-elect Donald Trump permission to reveal a message from him expressing his support for the Republican candidate leading up to the election. WEEI gave the 39-year-old QB a chance to clarify those somewhat confusing words Monday, but he still declined to answer.
“I just don’t want to get into it, I really don’t,” Brady said. “There’s nothing positive that comes of it. There’s been so much negativity over the last week. I’m a positive person and I just want to keep things positive.”
Brady also mentioned Wednesday that his wife, Gisele Bundchen, had asked that he refrain from talking about politics publicly anymore. He reiterated that sentiment Monday when asked if he was happy his friend, Trump, had won.
“I don’t want to express any emotions and any feelings,” Brady explained. “You know what I am? I’m hopeful and optimistic our country can move forward. I’m happy the election is over. I’m sure a lot of other people are. I’m going to focus on football.”
So it appears we’ll never know if Brady actually voted to “Make America Great Again.” But if it’s all the same, we’d rather he just focus on making the Patriots great again after Sunday’s loss.
