Would Winless Browns Be Undefeated With Tom Brady? One Pundit Thinks So

Tom Brady has accomplished some amazing things in his career, but one pundit’s recent declaration suggests the New England Patriots quarterback is capable of performing miracles.

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, now working as an analyst/broadcaster/radio host, said last week on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” that the Cleveland Browns, who fell to 0-12 with another loss Sunday, would be undefeated with Brady at the helm. When asked about the comment Monday during an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich,” Esiason doubled down, saying Brady’s preparation and leadership would have a trickle-down effect throughout the organization.

“I said they were going to be undefeated. Now I said that for a reason,” Esiason said. “I tried to emphasize what I believe is the greatest quarterback of all time and how he impacts the entire team. And I can tell you one thing, first and foremost, he’s not going to take any crap from the coaching staff. …

“Brady is one of those guys that when he shows up to the facility on a Tuesday or a Wednesday to get the game plan, he’s locked and loaded and he’s ready to go,” Esiason added. “There’s no screwing around. There’s no fooling around. And you better be ready to go when you step out on the practice field. That’s why I said what I said about Brady being in Cleveland.”

Sure, the whole idea is hyperbolic. The Patriots themselves are 6-1 with Brady this season — they went 3-1 while he served his four-game Deflategate suspension — so he’s proven beatable even with a supporting cast that most probably would agree is better than the one he’d be working with in Cleveland.

But Esiason’s point is understood. Brady is on another level in both his game-planning and his execution. Any team would be better with him in charge of the offense … even the lowly Browns.
