Brock Osweiler Benched By Texans; Fans React With Joy For His Replacement

Houston Texans fans either love Tom Savage or simply have had enough of Brock Osweiler.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien benched Osweiler on Sunday during their team’s NFL Week 15 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Texans fans erupted with cheers in the second quarter once they realized O’Brien had changed quarterbacks, according to Deadspin’s Timothy Burke and other observers.

Osweiler had the NFL’s second worst passer rating (73.4) coming into the game, and his two first-half interceptions likely will drive that number lower.

Osweiler’s $72 million contract and poor play have made him a lightning rod in Houston and the butt of many jokes around the league.

Savage hasn’t thrown a pass in the NFL since 2014, but he came off the bench firing.

Whether he can help the Texans hold their lead atop the AFC South remains to be seen. The same goes for Osweiler’s future as a starter in Houston, but fans seem to have made up their minds already.
