The NFL’s first incident with deflated footballs dragged on for nearly two years. But everyone involved in the second scandal seems intent on squashing it immediately.

The league was the first to throw cold water on “Deflategate 2.0,” finding no fault with the Steelers after the New York Giants filed a complaint to the league claiming Pittsburgh used under-inflated balls in their Week 13 matchup.

Now, it appears even the Giants are backing down. Here’s what team owner John Mara had to say about the issue at a league meeting Wednesday:

Steelers owner Art Rooney unsurprisingly echoed Mara’s sentiments, adding, via Pro Football Talk, “I agree with John.”

The Giants put up much less of a fight than the Indianapolis Colts did against the New England Patriots in the original Deflategate, which ultimately led to Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, the loss of a first-round pick and a $1 million fine.

That’s not exactly surprising, however: Mara and Rooney are two of the league’s most influential owners, and after Roger Goodell said Wednesday he’s “comfortable” with how the league handled the situation, both parties apparently thought it best to stay on the commissioner’s good side.
