Fantasy football owners probably held their breath while watching San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon suffer a hip injury Sunday afternoon that forced him to leave the field on a cart.

The injury occurred in the first quarter of San Diego’s Week 14 road game against the Carolina Panthers. Gordon didn’t return to the game and his status for Week 15 is not yet known, but San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Michael Gehlken provided an encouraging update for Chargers fans.

Gordon has rushed for 992 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while adding 41 receptions for 419 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver. He’s been one of the most productive fantasy running backs, particularly in PPR leagues, after a so-so rookie campaign in 2015.

Gordon should be played if he’s healthy for Week 15. A less-than-100 percent Gordon still is better than most running backs.

He also has a great Week 15 matchup against an Oakland Raiders defense allowing the second-most yards per carry (4.7) in the NFL. Oakland’s 16 rushing touchdowns allowed also is the second-highest in the league.

Chargers backup running back Kenneth Farrow might be worth a pickup off the waiver wire for Gordon owners just to be safe. Farrow ran for 55 yards on 16 carries and caught six passes for 23 yards in Gordon’s absence Sunday. That’s a pretty good stat line in PPR leagues.

It’s not time for Gordon owners to panic, but this situation definitely is one to monitor entering Week 15.
