Bills Coach Rex Ryan Reportedly Could Be Fired After Week 14 Loss

Have we seen the end of Rex Ryan in Buffalo?

That could very well be the case, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, whose sources say that Ryan’s shaky relationship with the front office, coupled with Buffalo’s mediocre season thus far could result in the team’s head coach being shown the door.

One source believes the firing could come in the immediate future, and that was before Buffalo suffered a 27-20 loss at home to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday that dropped the Bills to 6-7.

“I’d say I’m 95 percent sure Rex is gone by the end of the season,” said one source who has been in contact with Bills owner Terry Pegula and other Bills brass, “and he could be out as soon as Monday.”

It is believed that Ryan would have to lead the Bills to a near perfect end of the season if he has any hope of keeping his job.

However, the head coach isn’t the only one in the hot seat in Buffalo. According to another one of La Canfora’s sources, the front office is curious to see what rookie quarterback Cardale Jones can do on the field, which could result in the benching of starting QB Tyrod Taylor.

Taylor’s contract includes a five-year option, and if he is still with the team on March 11, he would be guaranteed $31 million. La Canfora’s sources believe that at this point, it’s unlikely the team picks up that option.

“Unless Tyrod turns into Russell Wilson the last four weeks — and that’s if he’s even playing all four weeks — then he’s not going to get that option,” one source with knowledge of the situation told La Canfora.

If Ryan were to lose his job in the coming weeks, it would be his second time being fired as a head coach in the past two years.
