NFL Rumors: Aqib Talib Isn’t Going To Patriots, Because He Was Traded To Rams

The New England Patriots’ veteran cornerback options are dwindling.

The Los Angeles Rams are trading a 2018 fifth-round pick to the Denver Broncos for cornerback Aqib Talib, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. NFL Media’s James Palmer first reported the trade. Unless the Rams turn around and trade Talib to New England, that means the Patriots and the All-Pro cornerback are not reuniting.

The Patriots could still acquire cornerback Richard Sherman from the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks also could release Sherman over the next few days, at which time the Patriots could sign him as a free agent.

The Patriots need a cornerback because Malcolm Butler is expected to walk in free agency. The Patriots could elect to start Eric Rowe opposite Stephon Gilmore, but they need additional depth at the position, regardless.
