UPDATE (1 p.m. ET): Zlatan Ibrahimovic indeed is headed stateside.

The Manchester United star has signed a two-year contract with Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy worth $3 million, Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl confirmed Thursday via a source.

The Galaxy will announce Ibrahimovic’s signing Frida via full-page advertisement in the Los Angeles Times, per Wahl.

ORIGINAL STORY: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is about to take his talents to Major League Soccer.

The soccer superstar will leave Manchester United and join an MLS team this week, ESPN’s Mark Ogden reported Thursday, citing sources. Ibrahimovic’s Manchester United contract will expire in June, but the Red Devils will allow him to leave the club two-plus months early in order to begin his new adventure.

He described the idea of playing in MLS as “tempting” earlier this month, and apparently he’s ready to give in.

Rumors have linked Ibrahimovic with the Los Angeles Galaxy for the last 12 months, and Ogden’s sources claim the team is the “leading contender” to sign him.

Ibrahimovic was the focal point of Manchester United’s attack last season until he ruptured his ACL on April 20 and spent the ensuing seven months recovering from the injury.

Ibrahimovic, 36, has played sparingly for the Red Devils this season, scoring only one goal in just seven appearances. He hasn’t played a competitive game since Dec. 26, as manager Jose Mourinho has relied on Romelu Lukaku to spearhead the club’s attack.

Nevertheless, he should be a hit in MLS.
