Kyrie Irving is on to rehab.

It was announced Thursday that Irving’s nagging knee injury will sideline him for the remainder of the season. The star guard underwent knee surgery Saturday, and it sounds like all is well so far in Irving’s road to recovery.

“The surgery went exactly as planned, and we expect Kyrie to be fully healthy for training camp in the fall,” Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said via an official press release.
The Celtics, of course, will miss Irving as they embark on the NBA playoffs, but his long-term health undoubtedly is priority No. 1. With Irving expected back healthy for next season, Boston should be a legitimate Finals contender, especially with Gordon Hayward back in the mix.
