David Ortiz will participate in the World Series this season, but in a much different capacity than he’s used to.
FOX announced Saturday that the Boston Red Sox designated hitter will be part of the network’s World Series coverage starting Tuesday. Ortiz will serve in an analyst role on FOX Sports’ pre- and postgame coverage.
Ortiz’s first appearance will come Tuesday prior to Game 1 in Kansas City where he’ll join Gabe Kapler, Frank Thomas and Nick Swisher as they preview Game 1 of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants.
“I want to thank FOX Sports for giving me this opportunity to be involved with the World Series and their broadcasts,” said Ortiz. “There is nothing more special than playing in the World Series and if I can’t be in the batter’s box, this is the next best place in the ballpark.”
Former Red Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski appeared on FOX in a similar role last season for FOX’s coverage of the Fall Classic between the Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.
