New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has something to prove to Tom Brady following Thursday’s 27-25 win over the New York Jets.
The typically dependable target for Brady dropped two key passes during the Pats’ narrow win that could have resulted in big plays, and Edelman knows that can’t happen again. With the Chicago Bears coming to town Sunday, Edelman said during his appearance on WEEI’s “Middays with MFB” on Monday that he has to work his tail off to show Brady that he’s better than his last performance.
“I definitely have to go in there and I’ve got to show him in practice that I can go not drop easy balls, or try to run with the ball before I have it,” Edelman said, via WEEI.com. “I’m sure that he’ll come back, because that’s how he is. He’s going to throw to the open guy. It’s definitely a different situation (than in past years), but I definitely have to eliminate that immediately and go back to the drawing boards and catch more balls and work on it.”
The two drops were a minor blip in what has been another strong season for Edelman, who has 44 receptions for 453 yards and one touchdown on the season. While his four catches for 44 yards against the Jets was far from his best showing of the season, he emphasized that his focus is to constantly get better week after week.
“Like we say every week, we just try to go out each and every week and get better,” Edelman said. “That’s what we’re trying to do. There’s a lot of situations that we have to get better at. But we consistently put in the work. Guys are going out there, they’re working hard, they’re making plays in practice and it’s translating into games. It’s going to help the team. As long as we can just keep it going, keep getting better, everyone contributing, everyone doing their job, that’s how it goes.”
