Darrelle RevisDarrelle Revis’ undisclosed absence has been explained.

Revis was late to the New England Patriots’ facility Tuesday, so head coach Bill Belichick sent him home, multiple sources told The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin. CSNNE’s Tom E. Curran also reported that Revis missed practice for tardiness.

This is standard-operating procedure for Belichick, who previously has sent players home for showing up late.

Revis was supposed to arrive by 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Volin’s report, after the Patriots were given Saturday, Sunday and Monday off following Thursday night’s 27-25 win over the New York Jets.

A source close to Revis told Volin that the cornerback accepted responsibility and understands the Patriots’ rules apply to everyone.

Revis was asked Wednesday about his absence.

“That’s between me and coach,” Revis responded. “Talk to him about it.”

UPDATE (5:32 p.m.): John Geiger, Revis’ business manager, tweeted that Volin’s report is untrue. Geiger has since deleted the tweet.

A league source told the Boston Herald’s Karen Guregian that Revis was told not to come to Gillette Stadium after oversleeping. He later came to the facility to apologize to Belichick, according to the source.
