Sorry Red Sox fans, the 2010 season is already over. At least that’s what many members of the Nation are saying after Jason Bay reportedly rejected a recent offer from the local nine. According to NESN.com reader Rick V, next summer is a lost cause.

We aren’t going to be challenging for any titles this coming season anyway. 2010, whether the front office intended it or not, is already lost. Jason Bay is not a difference maker. When he’s on a hot streak he’s wonderful. But when his bat disappears you might as well have Dice-K at the plate. And his bat disappeared for 6 crucial weeks in 2009. And he’s a less than average defensive player with only slightly above-average speed. We’ll have a lot of money coming off the books after the 2010 season. Such is the life of the coach of a college football powerhouse.

The national championship is nice (by the way, ask the 900 undefeated teams in college football how they felt about missing out on that this year), but settling for a BCS bowl? As a BC fan, I’d take it any day. So, apparently, would Paterno, who hit the practice field a little early on Friday in order to prepare. The game may be three weeks away, but it’s never too early to start stretching.

Take for instance Marco, who has been bashing the Bruins’ front office since trading away winger Phil Kessel in September. The Jets and Giants — both tenants at the Meadowlands — own a combined record of just 2-10 in their last 12 contests. But the Giants’ neighbors in the New Jersey marshlands at the Izod Center are actually making them look good, because the Nets are winless through 16 games to open the 2009-10 season.

On Friday, the Nets lost 109-96 to the Kings (the NBA’s worst team last season) and now are one loss away from tying the 1988-89 Miami Heat and 1998-99 L.A. Clippers for most consecutive losses to open a season in league history. The odds are against the Nets winning this weekend, since they need to beat the defending champion Lakers to avoid tying the shameful mark.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, many New Englanders woke up from their Thanksgiving food coma to see the Bruins down by one goal to Martin Brodeur and the Devils. However, those who decided not to shed the calories with a day-after cardio burn (diet starts on Monday!) saw Blake Wheeler and the B’s tie things up with a late goal to earn the important point and put them in a first-place tie in the Northeas Division.

Without Milan Lucic, Wheeler has stepped up on the flank and has drawn some attention from a few Hub fans, including some praise from one who may or may not wear tights and a cape.

Detroit’s Matthew Stafford may have looked like a turkey on Thanksgiving with four interceptions and a 30.5 quarterback rating in Green Bay’s 34-12 win over the Lions on Thursday, but the future is bright for the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft as Stafford looked like a collected veteran in Detroit’s comeback win last week over the Browns.

Whatever the case, Thanksgiving is a day for rest, relaxation and indulgence. So if Lambert’s not your cup of tea, here’s some classic rock for you to indulge in instead. Enjoy.

On Wednesday night, there was a lot to be thankful for. Not only did the Celtics triumph over the Sixers, but the Bruins won for the fourth straight time — and they won their third overtime contest in four games, all on the road. It’s a pretty big feat for a team that couldn’t win back-to-back games a week ago.

Unfortunately, with every bit of good news comes some bad news — and once again, it has to do with Milan Lucic, who went down with what appeared to be a left knee injury with five minutes remaining in the game.

“Hate to sound negative but Lucic looks like he tore his ACL and MCL. Similar injury that I had. I pray that it is only a stretch ligement but it really looked bad. Happy Thanksgiving Bruins and Bruins fans!!”
