What they did off the field, however, does not always hold much weight.

Despite the heavy responsibility that comes with being a student-athlete, many of this year’s top picks were impressive both on the field and in the classroom. Boston College’s Anthony Castonzo posted a 3.45 grade point average while majoring in biochemistry, not exactly an easy subject.

Some of his fellow draftmates were just as impressive academically.

Wyoming safety Chris Prosinsky was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars (121st overall) and was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, an academic honor given to college football players with GPAs between 3.2 and 4.0 who demonstrate strong team leadership.

Below is a list of the draft picks with the top GPAs.

Stefen Wisniewski, Oakland Raiders, second round (48th overall), guard, Penn State, 3.91 GPA, secondary education

Greg McElroy, New York Jets, seventh round (208th overall), quarterback, Alabama, 3.83 GPA, marketing

Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings, first round (12th overall), quarterback, Florida State, 3.73 GPA, finance

Sam Acho, Arizona Cardinals, fourth round (103rd overall), defensive end, Texas, 3.55 GPA, business

Derek Sherrod, Green Bay Packers, first round (32nd overall), offensive tackle, Mississippi State, 3.54 GPA, business

Nate Solder, New England Patriots, first round (17th overall), offensive tackle, Colorado, 3.51 GPA, biology

Owen Marecic, Cleveland Browns, fourth round (124th overall), fullback, Stanford, 3.47 GPA, human biology

Anthony Castonzo, Indianapolis Colts, first round (22nd overall), offensive tackle, Boston College, 3.45 GPA, biochemistry

Mike Mohamed, Denver Broncos, sixth round (189th overall), linebacker, California, 3.43 GPA, business

A strange course of events turned tragic fast for Brazilian soccer fans at a state championship match between Goias and Vila Nova on Sunday.

According to Yahoo! Sports, a 19-year-old fan was shot and killed outside of Serra Dourada stadium (the home field of Goias) after the match. The match was interrupted for about 20 minutes when firefighters were brought to the field to clear out a swarm of bees that had surrounded the Goias goal.

After the match, a fight broke out between players on opposite sides, apparently due to celebration by the Goias side for reaching the finals with a 2-2 tie. The chaos spread to outside the stadium where the fan was shot.

The soccer world will be losing a brilliant player at the end of this season.

According to Liverpoolfc.tv, former Reds defender Sami Hyypia has announced his retirement. He will continue to be involved with soccer, staying on as a coach in Finland.

Although the announcement marks the end of a legendary career, Hyypia said he won't look back with disappointment.

"There are no regrets. Thanks to all those who have helped during the course of my career and to my relatives a big thank you, without family and friends it would not have been possible."

Hyypia joined the Reds in May 1999 when he was acquired from the Dutch club, Wilhelm II, for a meager £2.5million. He acted as a captain for Liverpool periodically throughout his career there and was named permanent captain for the 2002 season. He will arguably be remembered as one of the best defenseman ever to wear a Reds jersey.

Hyypia and Jamie Carragher formed an unstoppable defensive tangent in 2003 and helped lead Liverpool to a Champions League victory.

Sami played every minute of 57 straight games for the Reds from November 2001 to February 2006.

He is not only recognized for his contributions to European soccer, but in his homeland of Finland as well. Hyypia was named Finland's Footballer of the Year seven times for 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008.

In 2008, Hyypia announced that it would be his last season at Anfield. And in his final game for the Reds, fans at Anfield made a "Sami" mosaic.

To view the fan's mosaic, check out the video below.

Fans of The Hangover might have to wait a little bit longer before the sequel to the box office smash is released.

Mike Tyson's tattoo artist is suing Warner Bros. over a replica tattoo used in the movie The Hangover: Part II. According to MSNBC.com, S. Victor Whitmill, the man responsible for giving Tyson his signature facial tattoo is seeking an injunction to block the release of the movie because of copyright infringement.

Whitmill claims that he "owns" the artwork put on Tyson's face, therefore the replica design on the face of Ed Helms' character in the film is in direct violation of copyright law.

In a statement filed in a federal court in Missouri on Thursday, Whitmill outlined his specific grievances with the corporation.

"Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc.– without attempting to contact Mr. Whitmill, obtain his permission, or credit his creation — has copied Mr. Whitmill's Original Tattoo and placed it on the face of another actor … This unauthorized exploitation of the Original Tattoo constitutes copyright infringement," the statement read.

Warner Bros. has yet to release a statement.

Coming into the final stretch of the 2010-2011 season, Liverpool is sitting in the sixth spot in the Premier League standings, just three points shy of fifth-seeded Tottenham. But this isn't good enough for goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

According to Liverpoolfc.tv, Reina is confident that the team can move past Tottenham, with every match more important than the last. He said that if the team wins the next four matches, he thinks the Reds can secure a spot in Europa League play.

"I believe if we win them all we will be in the fifth position and that is probably the closest and most important target," Reina said. "We won't win every game 5-0 like we did against Birmingham last week, but if we play with the same mentality and approach it in the same way, we have more chance of winning than losing."

Reina said that he sees the team going far under the leadership of Kenny Dalglish. He said before Dalglish took over, qualifying wasn't even on the horizon.

"I definitely could not see [Europe] five or six months ago. But we kept fighting and turned the situation around. Now we need to do more to be even higher."

He said that the key to success will be clutch wins at home, citing the impressive record of Manchester United in front of their home crowd.

One thing is for sure, the Reds will have to keep playing hard no matter the outcome in the standings this season.

They run to the phones and try to get police involved in hockey-related matters, as we saw when (too) many Canadiens fans called Montreal police to try and have Zdeno Chara arrested for his hit on Max Pacioretty. They throw objects on the ice when things don't go their way. And when their beloved hockey team gets eliminated in a well-played, well-deserved Game 7 win by the Bruins, they complain about it to any media source willing to listen.

Montreal Gazette correspondent Dave Stubbs further cemented the idea that the Habs' faithful really can't handle losing when he unleashed what can only be described as an unnecessary diatribe on pretty much anything to do with the Bruins in his article titled "Sore Winners in Beantown."

The headline alone is enough to make any sports fan, let alone Bruins fans, gag. But what follows is even worse. What Stubbs' article seemed to be was an outlet to relieve his own frustration as he attacked Tim Thomas, Andrew Ference, Bruins fans, Boston radio hosts and even the content broadcasted on the TD Garden scoreboard all in one fell swoop. As far as newsworthiness is concerned, there isn't much to it.

"There's been a great deal of poor winning going on in Boston since Wednesday night," he wrote. "And that's a shame given the high road that the Bruins and their extended family could have chosen to drive into the Eastern Conference semifinals."

What Stubbs and other sour Montreal fans don't seem to comprehend is that the Bruins took the "high road" because, unlike in Montreal, the team and the fans have moved on. Yes, Boston celebrated its Game 7 win, but now all focus has been turned to the Philadelphia Flyers. Game 7, as incredible as it was, is in the past.

The Gazette writer refuses to put the series to rest, taking a particular beef with Boston goaltender Tim Thomas for his comments about rookie defenseman P.K. Subban and his antics throughout the series.

It was obvious to anyone watching the game that Subban was trying a bit too hard to draw penalties. He would drop if a Bruins player did so much as skate by him, and there's evidence to prove it. After the game, Thomas called the embellishment by Canadiens players a "travesty" and "infuriating." Fans in Montreal didn't like this very much. Neither did Stubbs.

He wrote of the Bruins' goaltender, "Thomas, usually one of the more polished pieces of cutlery in the drawer, was all kinds of tarnished in his reply."

Now we're comparing hockey players to silverware.

So because Thomas chose to express his opinion and say something negative about the way the Canadiens played, his opinion is "tarnished?" Do the same rules apply to Pacioretty who talked smack about the Bruins from his couch saying, "This game is longer than Brad Marchand's nose?" Doubt it.

Everybody (including the selection committee for the Vezina Trophy) knows that Tim Thomas is a class act. Thomas gave Montreal and Carey Price credit where credit was due before he talked about the embellishment.

Stubbs' next victim was Andrew Ference. Ference certainly didn't make any new friends north of the border with his one-fingered salute to the Bell Centre fans. Yes, it was uncalled for, but he was fined, case closed. Canadiens fans took further issue with his hit on Jeff Halpern, crying for a suspension, even though Halpern was able to get up and play later in the game. In this case, it's surprising the fans didn't overreact more with Chris Kelly's "hit" on Roman Hamrlik. Based on how long it took Hamrlik to get off the ice (long enough for a goal to be scored), it must have been pretty serious, right?

The Gazette correspondent even stooped so low as to attack another journalist. He said that Stephen Harris, a writer for the Boston Herald "proves that you can type with a cheerleader's pompom in each hand." Just as Stubbs proves that you can type with the world's smallest violin in one hand and a box of Kleenex in another.

What Montreal fans and the media should do is recognize that hockey is over. Regardless of how much whining they do in the next few months, the series is over.

The Canadiens won't be playing hockey for a while, and their fans need to relax and let the Bruins continue to play their game.

Supporters of the Boston Bruins and fans of the Montreal Canadiens have always had trouble seeing eye-to-eye when it comes to hockey. And it doesn’t look like they'll be settling those differences anytime soon.

The latest installment in the heated Bruins-Canadiens rivalry deals with the media as Dave Stubbs, a reporter for the Montreal Gazette has called out all of Bruins Nation (the fans, the players, radio hosts and even the content played on the TD Garden scoreboard), calling Boston "sore winners."

"There's been a great deal of poor winning going on in Boston since Wednesday night," he writes. "And that's a shame given the high road that the Bruins and their extended family could have chosen to drive into the Eastern Conference semifinals."

Stubbs goes on to say that Tim Thomas insulted Montreal's P.K. Subban by saying that the defenseman "falls down like he's had a brick dropped on his chest."

The writer also insisted that Thomas insulted the Canadiens team by commenting on many of the questionable acting jobs put on by the Habs.

"Thomas was throwing stones in a house not made of Plexiglas, given the way this series unfolded," Stubbs wrote.

And the drastic judgments made on the Bruin' character only get worse from there.

"And add to your must-see list the TD Garden scoreboard glorification of the Big Bad Bruins' goonery and thuggery through the ages," he wrote. "Why waste electricity celebrating the wizardry and artistry of Bobby Orr or Phil Esposito when you can boom pro-wrestling music and hail the thugs?"

What set Stubbs off the most was a story by Boston Herald writer Stephen Harris who, when writing about Montreal said "The Habs have a team of whiners and divers. Which just makes last night's win all the sweeter for the Bruins and their backers."

Needless to say, Stubbs disagreed.

If there's one thing Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville knows about, it's football. So why he was on FOX News talking about President Barack Obama's birth certificate is still a mystery to some people.

According to The Huffington Post, Tuberville was not shy in expressing some skepticism toward the validity of the president's birth certificate, which was released by the White House on Wednesday. He also chastised Obama for taking so long to reveal it to the public.

"Well, we've got enough controversy going on in this country," he said. "I don't know why he wouldn't just step up and say, you know, 'Here it is.' Obviously there's gotta be something on there that he doesn't want anybody to see. I don't understand it. You know, as a common American, I just don't understand why we just go through this and I think it's continued to divide the country."

Tuberville added that he still feels that Obama is hiding something from the American people, otherwise he would have just agreed to show his birth certificate.

After taking over at Texas Tech, Tuberville lead the Red Raiders to a bowl win in his first season at the helm.

What do Lakers star Kobe Bryant and Atlanta Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell have in common? They both apparently can't keep their mouths shut.

According to the Associated Press, Justin Quinn, a San Francisco fan from California, is accusing McDowell of yelling racial slurs at him and his family and threatening to come after him with a bat at the Braves-Giants game on April 23.

He announced what happened at a press conference set up by lawyer Gloria Allred. Quinn claims that after the Braves coach started yelling, he was told to be quiet because children were present. Upon hearing this, he allegedly said that a baseball park is no place for children and then supposedly came after Quinn with a bat.

Quinn said that McDowell should be fined and he would like the Braves to issue an apology.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool could be looking to bid for Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi.
"Lavezzi has been followed by Liverpool for 12 months and they could make a bid for his services," Alberti said.

In his career with Napoli, Lavezzi has 35 goals in 122 games. Alberti added that the club would take a big hit by letting the 25-year-old Argentinean slip away to Anfield.

After a rocky spring training, Yankees pitcher Phil Hughes was a big question mark for the starting rotation. Now, after pitching just three games, Hughes' role on the team is still unclear.

According to ESPN.com, the struggling righty will remain on the disabled list due to a nagging shoulder injury. Hughes has been experiencing velocity issues as of late and can only describe "just a lot of deadness" as what he feels when he throws. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 15.

Hughes was recently forced to end a bullpen throwing session early after only 20 pitches, telling Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild that things just didn't feel right.

"It felt like I just had nothing there," Hughes told his coach.

Rothschild said that the team cannot assess Hughes' injury until more tests are done.

"The fact that there's no sharp pain and there's nothing that he can really draw a connection to is probably a good thing, but a bad thing is we're not progressing at all," Rothschild said. "I always have a level of concern but there's not much you can do until you know more or see where.”

So far this season, Hughes has pitched only 10 1/3 innings, giving up a whopping 16 earned runs.

There are moments in sports history that players admit they will never forget for the rest of their lives.

Liverpool's Maxi Rodriguez experienced one of those moments on Saturday when his Reds blew out Birmingham City with a 5-0 win. It was during this game that Rodriguez posted his first hat trick as a member of the Liverpool club and when it happened, the fans at Anfield went bonkers.

It was the response from the fans that Rodriguez said he will never forget.

"It's definitely my best moment in a Liverpool shirt," he said. "I think it's more special because we scored a lot of goals, it was my first hat-trick for the club and also because I scored it at Anfield in front of our fans."

Although Rodriguez stole the show with his scoring, he still credits the team with putting forth a complete effort.

"It is definitely a great feeling to score a hat trick but it is not just about me scoring the goals," he said. "The team played really well and that is the most important thing."

Kevin Garnett continues to be in the headlines both on and off the court.

Garnett was recently called a “punk” and a “coward” in the latest installment of ESPN the Magazine’s “Player X” feature, during which an anonymous NBA player is asked to write a column dealing with just about anything to do with the league.

Sportsgrid.com has video of former NBA point guard and ESPN analyst Mark Jackson who stirred up some controversy with his employer when he called out ESPN the Magazine during an ESPN broadcast.

Jackson said that the “Player X” feature is a “cop-out” by the magazine.

“I think it’s a cop-out, as a magazine, to give a source and not give the name,” Jackson said during yesterday’s Celtics-Knicks telecast on ABC. “If you’re going to attack Kevin Garnett in that way, then put a name to it or don’t write it. It’s not fair to Kevin Garnett.”

Liverpool's Raul Meireles has had an impressive season, and now, the Reds midfielder is getting credit for it.

According to ESPN.com, Meireles has been named the ESPN PFA Fans' Player of the Year, as chosen by fans of the Premier League.

Meireles had a slow start for Liverpool after being signed by former manager Roy Hodgson. However, he regained momentum under the leadership of the Reds' new boss, Kenny Dalglish. Since the manager swap at Anfield, the midfielder has tallied five goals in six games, helping lift Liverpool to European contention.

The Portuguese midfielder had to beat out some tough competitors for the award. Samir Nasri (who was named PFA Player of the Month in October, December and January), Dimitar Berbatov (Player of the Month for September), Fernando Torres (Player of the Month for November) and David Luiz (Player of the Month for March) were also nominated for the award.

Meireles was named Player of the Month in February.

Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis is out of the lineup for Friday night's game against the Angels, but he was fairly active in a recent photo gallery compiled by Yahoo! Sports.

In a recent post by Yahoo's Big League Stew, readers were given a photo of Youk performing what looks to be an aggressive slide and were asked to use photo editing software to place him in some clever situations. The results were impressive to say the least.

One contestant thought that Youk was busy break-dancing on MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, while another placed him as a stunt double in the legendary video game Mortal Kombat.

Another fan depicted Youkilis running with the bulls in Pamplona, while a different contributor chose to dress him in full Evel Knievel garb performing a death-defying leap.

Here's just one example, courtesy of Yahoo! Sports.

In the first two postseason games against the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks couldn't catch a break, losing both games in the final few seconds of regulation.

According to ESPN.com, things won't be getting easier for Carmelo Anthony's team, as two of his teammates and fellow playmakers, Chauncey Billups and Amare Stoudemire, could be out for Game 3 after sustaining injuries in the first two games.

Both players received MRI scans on Wednesday that confirmed Stoudemire has a pulled muscle in his back and Billups strained his left knee. Stoudemire is listed as day-to-day, while Billups is "questionable" for Friday's game.

Billups sustained his injury during an attempted layup in Game 1 and he was forced to sit out the second game of the series.

Stoudemire sat out the second half of Game 2 after complaining of back spasms. He claims he will be ready to play Friday.

"I should be ready for Game 3," he told reporters in Boston. "We'll see how it goes [Wednesday] and next day, but I'm pretty sure — I'm hoping — I'll be ready Friday."

Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni confirmed that Stoudemire will be ready to go.

"He should be OK Friday. … He just felt a little twinge," he said.

Kobe Bryant wants people to know he's sorry … again.

The Lakers star has been an apology machine after he made an offensive, homophobic remark toward an NBA official last week in a game against the Spurs. The comment was so offensive, in fact, it cost Bryant $100,00 in the form of a league fine.

And now he's apologizing again, but this time it's in the form of a PSA video.

According to Lakernation.com, Bryant and his teammates put together a "Words Can Be Hurtful" video, which expresses the importance of compassion and understanding. It debuted on Good Day L.A. on Wednesday morning.

Pepe Reina is looking ahead, and that's good news for Liverpool fans.

According to ESPN.com, the LFC goalkeeper plans to stay with the team through next season, but warns that he'll be gone if things start out as poorly as they did this year.

"We didn't start this season, or last, the best — and next time we need to make sure that doesn't happen," he told LFC Weekly. "We need to be consistent with the aggression, commitment — everything. And if we get the balance right, we'll be a lot closer to where we want to be."

Reina hasn't been shy expressing his feelings about transactions the club needs to make, saying management should be aggressive when acquiring key players. He also credits manager Kenny Dalglish for the team's turnaround.

"Because he was a great player himself, he understands the point of view of a player and that means he knows how to set standards," Reina said. "He makes everything much easier for us. We have improved since Kenny became manager. We have beaten the big teams. But it is important as players to repeat that in every game."

Rumors have been swirling as to whether the Reds could keep their goaltender, with Manchester City and Arsenal both showing interest.
