With the NBA lockout in full swing, it's no secret that players are looking for other ways to make money.

Former Celtics guard Nate Robinson may have come up with the best — or at least the most entertaining.

Robinson tweeted at Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on Tuesday saying that he'd like a shot to tryout for Seattle.

"Coach give me a chance and I'll prove it to u," he said in a tweet that was later removed from his account.

Carroll, never one to back done from a little entertainment, fired right back.

"I always knew you had skills, that's why we tried to get you before… you still got em?," he tweeted. "we know you have great handles, but the question is: does it translate to DB skills? I kinda think it does…"

Both Twitter accounts are verified.

While Robinson was in high school, USC, where Carroll coached, recruited the two-sport star. Robinson eventually chose the University of Washington where he played one season as a defensive back while starring on the basketball team.

So perhaps the idea isn't as ridiculous as it sounds. Hey, crazier things have happened right?

"well then," Carroll tweeted, "see you at practice at 1:30. bring your cleats."

This season, though, NFL fans and HBO subscribers will have to go without the network's hit show Hard Knocks, which has given its fans an inside look at a NFL team's training camp.

HBO said the uncertainty of the lockout "made it impractical for a team to commit" to the show.

The Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are teams that reportedly turned down the opportunity during the lockout.

Last season, the show took off as it followed Ryan and his larger-than-life personality while focusing on the New York Jets.

Show producers said the series is set to return next season.

The Ravens, Cowboys, Chiefs, Bengals and most recently the Jets have been focused on the show, which started in 2001 covering Baltimore.

On Aug. 31, the show will air a 10th anniversary look back at previous seasons.

"We know football fans are hungry for compelling NFL programming and we think they'll love the 10th anniversary special," said Rick Bernstein, executive producer for HBO Sports.

In an effort to include its Nation of supporters, the Red Sox organization is starting an initiative to get fans more involved with the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park.

The "Tell Your Tale" initiative will give fans the opportunity to talk about their favorite memory of the team.

The Red Sox production team will be seeking fans to interview about their favorite moments two hours before each home game on Yawkey Way and during the game in the Big Concourse (second inning), Cumberland Farms Terrace (third inning), Coca-Cola Deck (fourth inning), and Steiner Deck (fifth inning).

"In addition to introducing new concessions, we are also making an effort to engage our fans by introducing new ways for them to share their ideas and stories about Fenway Park as we approach its 100th anniversary in 2012," said Red Sox executive vice president/COO Sam Kennedy.

Additionally, the team will be holding focus groups with Red Sox executives and fans, and will continue to interact with fans through Twitter, including live Q&As with players.

Fenway Franks may still be the hot dog of choice, but Red Sox fans will now have plenty more options thanks to an initiative launched by Fenway Park.

The Taste of Fenway concession stand on Yawkey Way by Gate D will now feature a unique raw bar with fresh shellfish sold by the piece, including clams on the half shell, shucked oysters and shrimp. Cooked seafood will also be available at the stand with favorites such as lobster rolls, crab cake sandwiches, fish and chips, fried clams and New England clam chowder. Cooked seafood items like the fried clams and fish and chips are freshly battered and cooked to order.

At three deli stands throughout the ballpark, fans can order an Italian beef sandwich with mozzarella topped with au jus gravy and served on a French baguette.

“We are continually looking for ways to improve the fan experience at Fenway Park and the second half of the season has always been a good time to roll out new offerings and fan-friendly options,” said Red Sox executive vice president Sam Kennedy.

And those looking for a lighter choice? Fans will soon find an expanded menu of healthy selections such as fresh cut fruits including watermelon and other seasonal melon, yogurts, jello, salads and wraps at various concession stands throughout the park.

The event will be making its sixth stop of the series in Boston, where contestants will be leaping off the top of the Institue of Contemporary Art into the harbor 80 feet below.

It will be the first time the series makes its way to the East Coast, and the panel of five judges will include two-time Olympic Gold medalist Greg Louganis.

"We are very excited to host the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series at the ICA," said Paul Bessire, deputy director for external relations at the ICA. "The ICA's innovative architecture and exhibitions and its location on Boston's stunning waterfront make it the perfect spot for this international event."

The tour will make stops in Mexico, France, Italy and Greece before heading to Boston on Aug. 20.

A lot has changed for Tiger Woods in the last 18 months — some were his choice, others, well, weren't.

Woods is undergoing another change, this time in his golf game.

The former No. 1 PGA player announced in a statement on his website that he has split with longtime caddie Steve Williams.

"I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it's time for a change," Woods said on the site. "Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future."

Williams has served as Woods' caddie for 12 years and was one of the first to defend the golfer after Woods' sex scandal broke at the end of 2009.

Woods continues rehabilitating his left leg and has not announced the next professional tournament he'll play in or who his new caddie will be.

Williams, meanwhile, served as the caddie for No. 17 Adam Scott during the last two major tournaments.

An Iowa high school baseball team has provided a nice foil to New Hampshire's Portsmouth High School.

They've also developed a little rivalry, though the teams haven't and won't play each other.

Martensdale-St. Marys High School broke Portsmouth's record for consecutive baseball wins Tuesday night, capturing its 84th straight with a 10-0 win, as reported by The Associated Press.

The intriguing part?

Portsmouth's streak is still active, though a better word may be dormant.

The Clippers, located off the New Hampshire seacoast, won the Division II N.H. state championship with a perfect season that ended in May. They won't play another game until next spring.

Martensdale, meanwhile, still has a number of games left on its season and could take a sizable lead over Portsmouth, which will start the season earlier than the Iowa school and has a chance to reclaim the record before Martensdale steps on the field next season.

"We wish them the best of luck," Portsmouth head coach Tim Hopley said. "We'll try to catch up when we start up again next spring."

Homer, Mich., held the record at 75 before Portsmouth broke that this spring. Homer was similarly going back and forth with the record with an Albuquerque, N.M., team back in 2005.

Portsmouth hasn't lost since 2007, but is a much different school than Martensdale.

The Clippers have more than 1,000 students enrolled, while Martensdale barely has more than 100.

"I think it's awesome. I think it's very cool, to be honest with you. I don't think when we set the record back in May, we thought it would only last weeks, basically, before someone else came along," Hopley told The Associated Press.

Two swings before Derek Jeter drove his 3,000th hit into the stands, he fouled a pitch beyond first base.

Seconds later, Jeter was rounding the bases and nobody thought twice about the foul ball — until Tuesday.

According to a sports collecting website, the ball Jeter fouled off two swings before recording his 3,000th hit is being auctioned off by Milwaukee-based MEARS in its monthly online auction.

Christian Lopez, the New York man who caught Jeter's home run, gave the ball back to Jeter without charge. It was a ball estimated at $250,000. For his actions, the Yankees gave Lopez signed memoribillia and box seats for the remainder of Yankee home games.

The unamed catcher of the foul ball, on the other hand, is looking to cash in on history, albeit early history.

MEARS, in promoting the auction, is calling it "The Greatest Modern New York Yankees Event Ball Ever Publicly Offered."

Editor’s note: Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912. NESN.com will be celebrating Fenway’s 100-year anniversary with unique content from now until April 20, 2012.

Local prospect Tony Conigliaro, a Revere, Mass., native, belted the first pitch he saw in his first game at Fenway Park onto Lansdowne St. and Robert and Ted Kennedy were at Fenway Park on Opening Day for a ceremony in honor of their brother John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated just a few months prior.

But while the season started off with a bang, the following summer months were anything but for the Red Sox, who lost 90 games and finished in eighth place in the AL.

Conigliaro provided a bright spot for some of the season, knocking 24 homers despite missing more than a month of action with an arm injury that he suffered after being hit by a pitch. He slammed 20 long balls by the end of July and finished with a .294 average in his rookie campaign.

Just 19 years old, Conigliaro's 24 homers set a record that still stands today for home runs by a teenager.

Dick "The Monster" Radatz led the team in wins, despite serving as a relief pitcher, and set a record for strikeouts by a reliever, fanning 181 batters. He finished the season with 29 saves and a 16-9 record, and he earned an appearance in the All-Star Game.

As the season unraveled in the late months, manager Johnny Pesky was fired. The day before he was let go, on Oct. 1, the Red Sox drew a crowd of 306 — likely the smallest attendance ever for a Boston game at Fenway.

The Boston Patriots continued playing at Fenway in 1964, but fell to the Buffalo Bills in their home finale in a game that decided the AFC East champ.

It also served as a reminder as to how just how passionate Red Sox Nation is.

Stephen Fife was overwhelmed by autograph seekers, as the big righty made rounds at Wednesday's Double-A Eastern League All-Star Game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Just 50 miles north of Boston, a majority of the crowd was Red Sox fans, despite the host team, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, being the Blue Jays' affiliate.

"It's crazy," Fife said. "It really goes to show you how large Red Sox Nation is. It extends all the way up to Portland [Maine], where they've supported us even through a rough season. This is great though seeing all the support here."

The venue served as a showcase to some of the league's top talent, many of whom may make the jump to the majors when MLB rosters expand to 40 men on Sept. 1.

None of the five Portland all-stars, though, are on the Red Sox' 40-man roster.

Center fielder Alex Hassan notched two hits, including a double down the left field line, and plated a run in the Eastern Division’s 8-3 loss to the West in front of 7,517 fans.

Will Middlebrooks continued playing well and showed why he is Boston’s top-rated Double-A prospect.

The third baseman went 1-for-2, but roped a double off Jeff Locke, a Conway, N.H., native.

"It was a pretty good atmosphere for a game," Middlebrooks said. "It felt nice and relieving to get a hit. Then again, it always feels good to get a hit."

New Hampshire's Moises Sierra won the home run derby after dueling fellow Fisher Cat Mike McDade. The festivities concluded with fireworks and an appearance by Team Ghost Riders.

Fife came on with one out in the ninth after teammate Alex Wilson surrendered four runs. The starter, who sports a 10-3 record, struck out both batters he faced.

"I was fortunate enough to be here last year," Fife said. "Then I watched a lot of those guys make their MLB debuts. It just goes to show you close we all here to making the jump to the next level."

Bill Belichick is known as one of the best in the business as finding top talent late in the NFL draft.

But according to a list compiled by ESPN's Grantland blog, two of Belichick's recent early draft choices misfired and represent some of the Least Valuable Players in the NFL.

First-round bust Laurence Maroney, a free agent after a short stint in Denver and three seasons in New England, takes the No. 25 spot on the list, while 2009 second-rounder Darius Butler was placed at No. 10.

The team had high hopes for Butler heading into last season, but the cornerback out of the University of Connecticut struggled mightily early on and was benched in the third game of the season. He finished the season with 23 tackles and zero interceptions.

Maroney, perhaps Belichick's biggest bust, opened the list. The running back was traded to the Broncos for a fourth-round pick last season. In Denver he rushed for just 74 yards on 36 attempts.

The Broncos opted against re-signing the running back.

James Harrison's dislike of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is nothing new.

The Steelers linebacker and former Super Bowl MVP has made that very clear.

But in a tell-all interview with Men's Journal magazine, Harrison took his criticism of Goodell to a new level, ripping Goodell, as well as the Patriots and his own teammate, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

"If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn't do it," Harrison said of Goodell. "I hate him and will never respect him. But up until last year, there was no word of me being dirty — till Roger Goodell, who's a crook and a puppet, said I was the dirtiest player in the league."

Harrison directed some harsh words at New England in the interview, claiming the team cheated in the 2004 AFC Championship Game after the Steelers went 15-1 in the regular season, but were beaten by the Pats 41-27.

"We were the best team in football in 2004, but the Patriots, who we beat during the regular season, stole our signals and picked up 90 percent of our blitzes [in the AFC title game]," Harrison said. "They got busted for it later, but, hey, they're Goodell’s boys, so he slapped 'em $500,000 and burned the tapes. Was he going to rescind their Super Bowls? Man, hell no!"

In the most surprising move of the interview, he had critical words for teammate Roethlisberger following last season's Super Bowl — a game the Steelers lost to the Packers 31-25.

"Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again," Harrison said. "Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain't that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does."

Roethlisberger took the blame for the loss after the game. He threw for 263 yards and completed two touchdowns, but was picked off twice.

Harrison also ripped former New England stars Tedy Bruschi and Rodney Harrison, calling them "clowns" and saying that Houston linebacker Brian Cushing is "juiced out of his mind."

The full story will be featured in the August issue and accompany a photo of Harrison shirtless with his two guns.

Alex Rodriguez has a "slight" meniscus tear, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said, and needs knee surgery.

The third baseman has two options — undergo the surgery now and likely miss a month, or try to play through it at the risk of injuring it even more and undergo surgery after the season.

Rodriguez is hitting .333 in his last 22 games, but more notably hasn't homered in that time frame, a span of 85 at-bats — the longest home run drought of his career.

“I just don’t think he has the drive in his back side that he needs to have to be the power hitter he’s capable of being,” Girardi told the NY Times. “I still think he can be productive and get his base hits, but I don’t think you’re seeing him necessarily drive the ball as much.”

Rodriguez, who had a magnetic resonance imaging exam on Friday, according to the Times, was replaced in the lineup Friday by utility infielder Eduardo Nunez.

If A-Rod undergoes the surgery, it would, quite obviously, be a big blow to the powerful New York offense. Nunez would likely get a majority of the playing time at the hot corner if Rodriguez opts for surgery. He's hitting .278 with three home runs on the season.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback tied the knot with with Dana Grady, and Prezant was there to capture the moment.

He was with the couple throughout the day and spent time with them as they made stops at the high school the two attended, where they took the above photo from Flacco’s old football field, and the local movie theater.

The night was capped when Flacco and Grady shared a kiss under the fireworks overlooking the river. Of course, Prezant was there for that moment, too.

Tension on the gridiron during the hot summer months is nothing new. It’s not rare for a fight or two to break out among guys competing for a roster spot as HBO’s Hard Knocks so eloquently showed us.

But the fight-turned-all-out-brawl that broke out in a Louisiana 7-on-7 high school game defied old-fashioned competition.

A verbal argument quickly morphed into pushing and shoving between players from Louisiana’s Plaquemine High and Woodlawn High. Fists started flying and players from both teams ran in and escalated the fight, which included players throwing their helmets and an all-out Superman dive by one player.

The scrimmage was held at a neutral location in Baton Rouge, and the players wore no padding other than a helmet.

Play was physical from the opening drive, but got out of hand after a Plaquemine defender threw down a Woodlawn player, according to Baton Rouge’s WAFB. The fight occurred about 25 minutes into the scrimmage.

Coaches from both sides needed about five minutes to break up the fight, and the game was called off after that.

The "Jagr watch" is over.

The Philadelphia Flyers have agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.3 million with 39-year-old Jaromir Jagr, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. The deal comes just hours after the Penguins withdrew their two-year, $4 million offer.

Jagr spent the last three seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League after playing more than 17 seasons in the NHL.

One of the most decorated players in the NHL, Jagr enters the season ninth on the NHL's all-time point list (with 1,599), just ahead of former Bruins Phil Esposito and Ray Bourque.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Jagr led the NHL in scoring five times, won the Hart Trophy as NHL's MVP and was runner-up five other times. He spent 11 seasons with the Penguins and also spent time with the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers.

The Flyers were bounced by the Bruins in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but recently traded forwards Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.

Jagr is the biggest name to sign in NHL's version of Black Friday — the first day teams and players can agree to contracts.

In his three seasons in the KHL, Jagr recorded 145 points in 155 games.

The Red Sox’ potent offense plated more than 1,000 runs, including a record-setting stretch in June of 1950, but the pitching couldn’t keep up with the powerful Boston bats as the Sox finished third in the American League that summer.

The Sox, led by Ted Williams, Johnny Pesky, Dom DiMaggio and Billy Goodman, won 94 games that year, but finished four games behind the Yankees for first place.

Goodman led the league with a .357 batting average, Pesky hit .312, DiMaggio led the AL in stolen bases and Williams, despite suffering a broken elbow making a diving catch in the All-Star game, drove in 97 runs in 89 games.

Manager Joe McCarthy resigned in the middle of June citing physical exhaustion before Steve O’Neill took over as skipper. The Sox were 31-28 under McCarthy that season and 63-32 under O’Neill.

Boston crossed the plate 1,027 times in ’50 and set a record for runs total in a two-game span when they smacked the St. Louis Browns 20-4 and 29-4 on back-to-back nights in early June.

Goodman, a utility star, played every position in the infield and outfield and received extra playing time while Williams was out.

Fenway Park, in its 38th year, also played host to five Boston University football games and the annual Mayor’s Charity Field Day.
