Belichick had a good laugh with reporters when discussing the upcoming holiday, talking about costumes he wore as a kid and what candy he's hoping to see handed out this year.

"You got your candy ready?" Belichick asked the crowd. "What are we giving out this year?"

It seems to be a favorite holiday for the wise football coach, even if he's playing a game that day.

"What could be a better holiday than candy and costumes," he said.

To see all of Belichick's Halloween interview, check out the video below from NESN Daily.

With Givens sporting Lane's college jersey (watch the video to find out why) the duo set off with their NFL picks for the weekend ahead.

Both believe the Patriots will take the victory over Minnesota in Foxboro, but Lane thinks it will be a close one. NESN Daily host Cole Wright also sides with the Patriots, hoping New England will come away with a win on Halloween.

Check out all the Pigskin Picks by watching the video from NESN Daily below.

NESN will simulcast the radio show on weekday mornings from 6-9 a.m., delivering the always-interesting and exciting content right into your living rooms. John Dennis and Gerry Callahan spoke to NESN on Friday, and they are both excited about the new opportunity — among other things.

“It means I have to bathe almost every morning,” Callahan said. “No more of this Saturdays only.”

But don’t expect the show to change just because they will be on TV.

“We’re essentially going to do the same thing we’ve always done,” Dennis said. “Now we’re just going to allow a regional audience — maybe a national audience — to eavesdrop on this idiocy that we do every single morning.”

To catch all the updates about the new show, check out the video from NESN Daily below.

It was at that moment that Thomas got a little worried.

"When he passed it over to Kovalchuk, it was kind of uh oh time," Thomas told reporters after the game. "He made a move, and just by pure reaction I was fortunate enough to get a toe on it."

Thomas did more than stick his toe out for the Bruins in their 4-1 victory over the Devils. It seemed at times that the goaltender was standing on his head to prevent pucks from crossing the goal line, and he finished the game with 31 saves and his second victory of the season.

A humble Thomas credited his defense with doing great work in front of him by helping clear rebounds out of the Bruins' defensive zone to prevent second opportunities for the Devils.

Be sure to watch the entire highlight reel from Thomas's stellar effort in net from Saturday night's edition of NESN Daily.

Brick attacks the biggest question mark that faces the B's this season head on by discussing what the Bruins need to do to score more goals this season. As one of the toughest obstacles facing the team last year, Brick explains the three main factors that need to come together for the Bruins to light the lamp in 2010-11.

The man behind the microphone also discusses his expectations from goaltenders Tuukka Rask and Tim Thomas, as well as what he sees from the Bruins' tough defense.

To hear all of Brick's expectations, check out the video from NESN Daily below.

During Friday's edition of NESN Daily, we headed overseas to catch up with Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli, head coach Claude Julien and Bergeron himself, who all agreed that the extension was the right thing to do. Bergeron put it best with his input on the situation.

"I want to win here, I want to stay here, I want to help," the B's assistant captain said. "I want to be a better leader as the year goes on and I feel like I'm doing that. I'm just happy to have a chance to stay, I love this city."

Bruins play-by-play analyst Jack Edwards also chimed in on the contract, saying that Bergeron belongs with this organization.

"Bergeron is a Bruin. He's fit in with this team since he first showed up out of rookie camp," Edwards said. "If you look at Patrice Bergeron and the way he behaves, and what the city of Boston means to him you realize that his heart and soul is being a Boston Bruin."

Edwards also chipped in that the signing of captain Zdeno Chara should be the next and last loose end the Bruins' administration ties up this season.

Be sure to check out the entire video detailing Bergeron's contract extension below.

Now, they must convert that chemistry to playing at the NHL level, opening their season in less than 24 hours against the Phoenix Coyotes.

According to center David Krejci, the Bruins are ready for that step.

In part two of his interview with NESN's Naoko Funayama, Krejci said the chemistry has come along very well, especially with line mate Nathan Horton.

"The important part is to get along with him off the ice," Krejci said. "And he's the kind of guy that's really comfortable. If you didn't know he was the new guy, you'd think he was on the team for a long time. … I think me and Horton and [Milan] Lucic have played well together the past couple games."

Be sure to check out Krejci's entire interview below from Friday's edition of NESN Daily.

No, it wasn't a blowout victory they were seeking, but an opportunity to wake up after a disappointing preseason loss to the Washington Capitals last week.

According to head coach Claude Julien, the team did just that. While getting off to a sluggish start, the B's woke up in the second period after the Giants took a 1-0 lead, and responded with five goals of their own over the next two periods.

Highlighting the Bruins efforts was rookie Tyler Seguin, who notched two goals on the day, including the Bruins' first tally midway through the second period.

Seguin was pleased with the game's outcome, but he was even happier with what the European vacation is doing for the team's chemistry.

"Right now it's just bonding with the boys," Seguin told reporters after the victory. "I never thought I'd be visiting a place like this, and we've gone on some tours and that was some incredible stuff as well."

To hear more of Seguin's postgame interview, and to catch up on all the Bruins' action in Belfast, check out the video from NESN Daily below.

The Giants assembled a team of elite all-stars to take on the Bruins in Northern Ireland, and three of those all stars come from the Boston area. Defenseman Jeff Mason hails from Easthampton, Mass., and played five years in the ECHL before making the leap across the pond. Another defenseman, Mike Hoffman, calls Scituate, Mass., home and suited up for the AHL's Portland Pirates and the Hartford Wolfpack before heading to Ireland.

Andover, Mass., native Josh Prudden spent several years bouncing between the AHL and the ECHL before making the jump abroad. He also suited up for the University of New Hampshire during his collegiate years. Joining him in Ireland are former UNH teammates and brothers Colin and Brett Hemingway.

Friday's edition of NESN Daily detailed the Bruins current stop in Belfast, be sure to check it out in the video below.

There were some familiar faces at the Celtics’ facility in Waltham, Mass., on Monday for the team’s media day, as well as some newcomers.

The biggest of all, of course, was none other than Shaquille O’Neal.

“Paul [Pierce] e-mailed me this summer [saying], ‘We gotta get Shaq,’” Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck said of why the team sought out The Big Fella. “[The players] wanted him, he wanted them, and so let’s see how it mixes together. I think it’s going to be fantastic.”

For more from the Celtics, including Pierce’s thoughts on the landscape of the Eastern Conference, Jermaine O’Neal‘s take on how this team will win, and Kevin Garnett‘s reaction to the critics who say they’re too old, watch the video from NESN Daily below.

The Bruins lost to the Florida Panthers on Saturday night at the TD Garden. Despite that fact, though, it is only the preseason and there are positives to be taken from the loss.

First and foremost was the play of the newest Bruins' offensive weapons — rookie Tyler Seguin and former Panther winger Nathan Horton. Each scored a goal Saturday night and according to NESN's Bruins analyst Andy Brickley, each showed something different on Saturday night.

Seguin got the scoring going for the Bruins in the second period scoring his first goal of the preseason, and his first tally in a Bruins uniform. Despite the "milestone," Brickley tried to put it in perspective.

"Even if you're a rookie like Tyler Seguin and score your first professional goal, it's not until you score during the regular season," he said."

That doesn't mean it still wasn't impressive.

"It was a thing of beauty," Brickley continued. "You get a real good idea of what this kid's skill set is, in and around the offensive zone and around the net. … That's not an easy shot to make."

To hear more from Andy Brickley on NESN Daily, including what he thinks Nathan Horton will bring to the Bruins' offensive attack, check out the video below.

They will also be welcoming an old friend back to Boston.

Dennis Wideman returns to the Garden after he was dealt to Florida for Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell back in June.

Though he reportedly won't be playing in Saturday's contest, NESN's Naoko Funayama caught up with the former Bruins defenseman at the Panthers practice session at Matthews Arena in Boston.

Wideman says his adjustment has gone well, and he's getting along well with the team and the management down in Florida.

"The guys here are friendly and I've been getting along with everyone," Wideman said. "It's been a good transition."

However, Wideman wasn't going to hide the fact that he was disappointed with the trade from the Bruins.

"I was upset," he said when he heard the news. "It's always hard getting traded and the downside is leaving the city where you got comfortable and the organization where you got comfortable, and all your friends on the team. The upside is you're getting traded so someone still wants you, so that's the positive you can take out of it."

Be sure to watch Wideman's entire interview below during NESN Daily.

“For a guy to be that popular and then not to get voted upon by his peers as a captain … it’s gotta hurt his ego,” said NESN.com’s Jeff Howe on NESN Daily. “Anybody would feel a little slighted.”

Fans are coming out in hordes for the Deutsche Bank Championship event held at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. NESN's Cole Wright caught up with Deutsche Bank CEO Seth Waugh to discuss the fan turnout for the weeklong event.

"It's a big deal for us," Waugh said. "They've been incredibly supportive over the years, and we've tried to build a really special event with a special atmosphere and the fans have been incredibly responsive."

Waugh also discussed the recent sponsorship extension with the PGA Tournament. Deutsche Bank will continue to serve as the primary sponsor — as it has since the event's inception in 2003 — through 2012, ensuring a New England PGA tournament event for two more years.

Jason Day and Zach Thompson currently rank atop the Deutsche Bank Championship leaderboard. The two are locked in at first place as they both shot 8-under-par in Friday's first round.

That's saying something.

He knows it too, White understands the legends that the TD Garden holds, he's a Boston man himself. The Celtics, the Bruins … Boston is a sports town, but White truly believes the UFC crowd will be blown away Saturday night.

"A bold statement saying it here in Boston," White said. "But the 15,500 people that show up here tomorrow night for this fight. This will be the best live sporting event they've ever seen. I guarantee that."

Fans are excited about the event as well. Not only is this the first time UFC has come to Boston, but there are local guys on the fight card as well. Kenny Florian, a Westwood-native, will be competing in a lightweight bout with Gray Maynard on the Main Card. Also hailing from Massachusetts is Joe Lauzon, an East Bridgewater-native who will be taking on Gabe Ruediger in a lightweight bout on the preliminary card.

Check out the entire UFC 118 preview from NESN Daily below.

This year, all the proceeds from the OldTime Baseball Game went to the Marley Jaye Cherella Memorial Fund. Parents Melissa and Jason Cherella lost their five-month-old, Marley, to SIDS in 2008. Since her death they have formed a foundation in Marley's name that raises money and awareness for the mystifying syndrome.

NESN's Cole Wright participated in the media day for the event, donning an old time Detroit Tigers uniform. The OldTime Baseball Game takes place on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Field in Cambridge. Admission is free, but donations for the Marley Jaye Cherella Memorial Fund are greatly appreciated.

For more information about the game and about SIDS and Marley's foundation, watch the video below and visit the event website.

With the loss of Kaczur to injury and veteran Logan Mankins to a holdout, the Pats will turn to Dan Connolly at left guard to step up on the line.

NESN Insider Jeff Howe stopped in for a NESN Daily update with Cole Wright to deliver the instant analysis on what Kaczur's absence mean's to New England.

"Right now it's going to be up to Dan Connolly to fill in and make that position [left guard] his own," Howe said. "He's really kind of learning on the job, trying to mesh with that first team offensive line. It's up to him because Logan Mankins isn't coming through that door anytime soon."

Listen to Howe's entire analysis in the video below, and be sure to tune in to NESN Daily every night at 11 p.m. on NESN.

Well, it's that time of the year again — time to brush aside your love for baseball and reignite the fire of hate that burns deeply for the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox kick off a four-game set at the "fake" Yankee Stadium Friday, and with the pinstripes sitting atop the American league East this could quite possibly be the biggest series of the season for the local nine.

The injuries have taken their toll on the Red Sox — there’s no denying that. However, it seems as if the loss of one Boston player sparks a competitive spirit in another member of the squad and the team rises to the challenge.

The loss of Kevin Youkillis hits the Sox hard, especially with the bulk of the walking wounded waiting in the wings to make their long-awaited returns. So that begs the question: Who will be the next member of the Sox to step up their game in the Bronx?

As far as the battery is concerned, Friday night's matchup between Clay Buchholz and Javier Vasquez will set the tone for the entire series. Now I know that sounds like a no-brainer, seeing that it is the series opener, but I’m looking at it from a big-picture perspective. Buchholz, in my humble opinion, is the most important player on the bruised and battered Sox. He’s tossed his way to an impressive 11-5 season mark and in front of Jay-Z, Minka Kelly and A-Rod’s main squeeze, Cameron Diaz, the Sox' most dependable starter this season will shoot for win No. 12.

If Boston can manage to steal a win at The House That Jeter Built, then the series will be theirs for the taking. Saturday will see John Lackey go head-to-head with one of the toughest lefties in the game, CC Sabbathia. With CC making mincemeat out of the opposition, Big John Stud will definitely have his hands full in Saturday’s midday matinee.

Josh Beckett has been a breath of fresh air since coming off of the disabled list a few weeks ago, and with a pair of wins under his belt since his trip to the shelf, expect Beckett to absolutely embarrass a struggling A.J. Burnett (9-9).

Monday presents a challenge for the Sox and Jon Lester. You see, Johnny L has dropped his last four starts, making it the longest losing streak of his brilliant career. Something tells me that he has no interest in extending that streak to five games. His opponent on the mound will be an unfamiliar face in this Sox-Yankees rivalry as Joe Girardi will trot Dustin Mosely out onto the bump. With his 1-1 record, it could be a long day for the four-year journeyman who was originally picked up by the Reds back in 2000. Moseley's only win this season came against the Indians this past Tuesday and despite the Sox splitting with the Tribe, the Boston bats present a much more daunting challenge then Cleveland.

Only one member of the Yankees is hitting over the .300 mark in Robinson Cano, who has been red-hot this season while swinging the stick at a .325 clip. The rest of the squad is hitting between the .250 and .299 area, which could fare well for the Sox staff.

Then there’s newcomer Lance Berkman, who could be the sleeping giant for the Yanks in this series. The Big Puma is just 2-for-15 since being acquired by New York. We all know what he’s done over his career, so it’s only a matter of time before his bat wakes up — hopefully it won’t be against the Sox.

If the Sox can take this four-pack of games, they will be right back in the mix in the division — something I said in my earlier transmission that is very likely with this scrappy bunch of "get it done" guys.
