For the first time in the history of the NCAA tournament, a pair of No. 4 seeds will face off in the Final Four as Syracuse faces Michigan on Saturday night in Atlanta. The Wolverines are two-point favorites at Bovada.

History would seem to favor the underdog Orange. It’s the fourth time that coach Jim Boeheim has led Syracuse to the Final Four, and Syracuse won its previous three national semifinals comfortably: 95-84 over Texas in 2003 on the way to the Orange’s lone national title, 77-69 over Mississippi State in 1996 before losing to Kentucky, and 77-63 over Providence in 1987 before falling to Indiana on the memorable Keith Smart jumper.

In addition, Boeheim is 9-0 in his career against Michigan counterpart John Beilein, although just one of those wins has come with Beilein at Michigan. At 68 years and five months, Boeheim could become the second-oldest coach to win a national championship behind UConn’s Jim Calhoun (2011). The Orange are +425 to cut down the nets Monday.

The Orange sputtered to close the regular season, losing four of their final five games. They reached the Big East Tournament final but lost by 17 to fellow Final Four team Louisville. A Syracuse-Louisville rematch in the national title game is +140 at the book. One conference hasn’t had both finals teams since the Big Eight with Kansas and Oklahoma 25 years ago. This is Syracuse’s final season in the Big East as it heads to the ACC. Louisville follows in 2014.

It’s the first Final Four for Beilein and for Michigan since the Fab Five went in 1992 and ’93. The Wolverines were No. 1 in the country briefly earlier this season before closing the season with six losses in their final 12 games.

Michigan needed a miracle rally in the Sweet 16 to send their game against Kansas into overtime. Trey Burke, the Big Ten Player of the Year and the favorite for the national award, hit a 3-pointer from about 30 feet to tie it late. Burke has accounted for 134 points in this tournament (scoring and assists), the most of any player. Other than versus Kansas, Michigan hasn’t been challenged in the tournament. A Michigan-Louisville national title game is the -110 favorite at the book, and Michigan is +300 to win it all.

It should be a classic game of opposites. The Wolverines are an up-tempo team averaging nearly 79 points per game in the Big Dance. They shredded VCU’s vaunted “Havoc” pressure defense in the Round of 32 in a 25-point blowout and outscored VCU 27-4 in transition. Florida was ranked as the No. 2 defense in the nation but was gouged for 79 points (one shy of a season high against the Gators) in the Elite Eight as Michigan was 10-for-19 from 3-point range and turned the ball over only nine times.

Syracuse’s 2-3 zone is one of the toughest defensive sets to prepare for. At the top of that zone are 6-foot-6 guard Michael Carter-Williams and 6-foot-4 Brandon Triche, making it tough to penetrate and get off jumpers. Syracuse is allowing less than 46 points per game in this tournament, and Indiana, one of the nation’s highest-scoring teams, was held to a season-low 50 in the Sweet 16.

The Manti Te’o story is taking yet another strange and somewhat hysterical twist.

According to the New York Daily News, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo — the man reportedly behind the fake girlfriend hoax — was impersonating “Lennay Kekua” during phone calls with Te’o. Many of these phone calls lasted well over an hour and deep into the night, according to reports.

Te’o “thought it was a female he was talking with,” lawyer Milton Grimes, who is representing Tuiasosopo, told the Daily News. “It was Ronaiah as Lennay.”

Grimes also claims that his client — who has experience in vocal and dramatic training – wasn’t trying to humiliate Te’o.

“This wasn’t a prank to make fun,” Grimes said. “It was establishing a communication with someone. … It was a person with a troubled existence trying to reach out and communicate and have a relationship.”

The Bruins have not played the Philadelphia Flyers in the playoffs since 1978, back when the curse of the Bambino was alive and well, communism threatened the world and people communicated on telephones, not Facebook and Twitter.

In total, Boston has met Philadelphia four times in the postseason. The Flyers won the first two series, but the B's have taken the last two.

1978 Stanley Cup Semifinals

The 1977-78 season was the season of the "Bloody O'Reilly." While the Bruins finished 51-18-11 with 333 goals and 218 allowed, right wing Terry O'Reilly had arguably his best season, posting 29 goals and 90 points.

The B's swept the Chicago Blackhawks in the quarterfinals to secure a fight with the Flyers, who went 4-1 against the Buffalo Sabres in their opening matchup. The Flyers were second in the Patrick Division with a 45-20-15 record, 296 goals and 200 allowed, but they were overmatched against the Bruins, who had 11 20-goal scorers that season, still an NHL record.

The Flyers won Game 3 of the series, but the Bruins slammed the door in five games.

Boston then fell to Montreal 4-2 in the Stanley Cup Finals..

1977 Stanley Cup Semifinals

The Bruins finished first in the Adams Division with a 49-23-8 record, 312 goals and 240 allowed. The Flyers finished first in the Patrick Division with a 48-16-16 mark, 323 goals and 213 allowed.

The Bruins swept the Flyers out of the playoffs, but the games were neck-and-neck, with Boston claiming the first two in overtime in Philadelphia.

The Bruins were unable to keep the momentum going and lost to the Canadiens in the Finals 4-0.

1976 Stanley Cup Semifinals

1976 is the last time the Flyers won a playoff series against the Bruins. This is also the year Bobby Orr left the Bruins for the Blackhawks; Phil Esposito and Carol Vadnais were traded to the Rangers for Brad Park, Jean Ratelle and Joe Zanussi; and Gary Cheevers returned from the World Hockey Association to mind the net.

The Bruins went 48-15-17 to top the Adams Division. After reaching the semifinals with a 4-3 quarterfinals win against the Los Angeles Kings, the B's fell to the Flyers in six games.

Philly, which went 51-13-16 during the regular season, was swept by Montreal in the Finals.

1974 Stanley Cup Final

The Bruins and Flyers each were No.1 in their divisions in 1974. The Bruins went 52-17-9 during the regular season, while and the Flyers were 50-16-12.

The B's entered the Finals in search of their sixth Cup after beating the Toronto Maple Leafs (4-0) and the Chicago Blackhawks (4-2). The Flyers were making their first Finals appearance after defeating the Atlanta Flames (4-0) and New York Rangers (4-3).

The Bruins were favored to win. They had home-ice advantage and were 17-2 record against the Flyers in Boston. However, things didn't go according to plan. Philly topped the B’s in overtime at the Garden in Game 2.

The B's had no answer for Flyers captain Bobby Clarke, and Philly goaltender Bernie Parent held off Orr, Esposito, Ken Hodge and Wayne Cashman to take home MVP.

"The Bruins are only No. 2," Orr said after losing the series in six games.

With the exception of this Stanley Cup win for the Flyers, the three other meetings between the two clubs have resulted in the victor falling to the Canadiens, who face the Penguins in the other conference semifinal this year.

Will history repeat itself, or will a new chapter be written?

Boston sports radio host Fred "Toucher" Toettcher of 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher and Rich show got himself into some trouble on Friday after making an off-color joke about how Tim Tebow's draft night celebration looked like a Nazi rally. On Monday, he apologized for the remark on air, according to the Boston Herald.

"I truly, truly can tell you that was not my intention," Toettcher said at the close of the four-hour show. "I apologize to you that were offended. I just apologize, and I regret what I said."

Toettcher apologized for saying Tebow's party "looked like some kind of Nazi rally. … So lily-white is what I'm trying to say. Yeah, Stepford Wives."

Cha-Chi Loprete, a spokesman for WBZ-FM, a CBS-owned radio station, did not comment on the matter besides confirming that the host apologized for his distasteful remark.

The Red Sox’ 13-12 win over the Blue Jays on Monday night might have been forgettable for Josh Beckett, who allowed eight runs in three innings, but ex-Jay Marco Scutaro will remember it for a long time.

Scutaro went 3-for-5 with a walk and scored four runs in his first trip to Toronto as a Red Sox.

Blue Jays manger Cito Gaston was impressed with his former player.

“He’s one of the guys I really, really like and certainly respect,” Gaston told MLB.com. “As I told him, it was nice to manage him. Of course, I didn’t have to manage him too much. He’s such a good player — a knowledgeable player — that you don’t have to say much or do much with him. They got themselves a good player over there.”

In 20 games, Scutaro is hitting .279 with two home runs, seven RBIs and a .360 on-base percentage.

“You always wish you could keep a guy like him,” Gaston said.

Could Roethlisberger’s recent behavior be a result of this brain trauma?

While most would file this under "absurd excuses," some medical experts think the correlation is very plausible, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

"Until we examine a lot of people like Ben Roethlisberger and study the histories of brain injury and relate them to exhibited behavior, we won't be able to answer the essential questions that need to be answered," Dr. Thom Mayer, the medical director for the NFL Players Association, told the newspaper. "There's so much more we need to know."

According to the National Institutes of Health, cited in the article, recurring head injuries cause a loss of self-control, increased sexual activity and alcohol abuse. Frontal lobe damage causes a lack of inhibition and an alteration in mood and judgment. Big Ben has been sacked 242 times and suffered four significant head injuries, including three on the field and one in a serious motorcycle accident. His repeated trauma has doctors questioning if it is the root of his destructive actions.

"Ben Roethlisberger is a guy with a lot of concussions," noted forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht told the Tribune-Review. "It would be a very wise decision, a very appropriate one, for the NFL to test him for damage related to them. That's being very fair to Ben.

"It's conceivable to think that there is a possibility that those concussions have led to some behavioral issues. The question I pose is simple: Can someone with several chronic or repetitive head injuries later display behavior that is socially undesirable? It's certainly possible, but we won't know that unless there is a proper evaluation, then work-up and treatment plan. It would be medically negligent not to include these sorts of tests as a part of this disciplinary process."

Commissioner Roger Goodell has suspended Roethlisberger for up to six games, which could cost the quarterback $2.8 million. Goodell also required he undergo various medical tests and exams.

Head trauma in the NFL is a huge issue. The NFL just recently donated $1 million to Boston University for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) research. CTE, also called "punchdrunk syndrome," deteriorates brain functions and cognition, affecting behavior and leading to dementia. Former Steelers Terry Long, Justin Strzelczyk and Mike Webster all had brains scans showing signs of the syndrome.

Time will tell if Roethlisberger’s questionable conduct is excused because of his past collisions, but once the hailstorm passes, Roethlisberger could have a new (less dangerous) gig as the face and advocate for brain trauma research.

The New York Yankees shouldn’t have too much trouble shrugging off their first series loss of 2010. On Monday, they travel to Washington D.C. to commemorate their 2009 championship, according to multiple sources.

President Barack Obama will welcome the pinstripes to the White House to congratulate the team for last season’s success. The Yankees also will visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Malone House, meet with Supreme Court Justice and baseball aficionado Sonia Sotomayor (a native of New York) and eat lunch in the U.S. Senate.

The Yankees are excited about their off-day activities.

"I think everyone enjoys trips to the White House, because not everyone has the opportunity to do it," Derek Jeter told MLB.com. "If you have that opportunity, I think it's something that people remember."

For Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada, this marks the fifth champ celebration at the White House and the third president they will meet. Before George W. Bush hosted their last victorious season in 2001, Bill Clinton welcomed the Yanks in 1997, 1999 and 2000. Jeter, Rivera and Mark Teixeira met Obama last summer at the All-Star Game in St. Louis.

Joe Girardi has made three trips to the White House, but Monday's visit will be his first as manager of a champion team. Girardi looks forward to the trip because he, like Obama, is from Chicago, but unlike the president, Girardi is a longtime Cubs fan while Obama roots for the White Sox.

"We've both spent a lot of time in Chicago, and we've rooted for different teams," Girardi told the New York Daily News. "I'm sure that will come up."

Whether it is a repeat trip to the capital or the first championship tour, players all agree that visiting the White House and meeting with the president is an exciting honor.

"It's a privilege you get whenever you win the World Series," Pettitte said. "It's definitely going to be fun, for sure.

"Growing up, seeing the Oval Office, you see the president talking and stuff like that. All of a sudden, you're standing there. It's like the first time you go to Fenway [Park] or the first time you go to Wrigley Field — that's what it kind of was for me."

Future stars will coming to Boston this summer. The Cape Cod Baseball League announced Thursday that the All-Star Game will take place at Fenway on Wednesday, July 28, at 7:05 p.m.

The Cape Cod League All-Star Game is a prestigious event, and many former Cape Cod Leaguers have gone onto the big leagues, including the Red Sox’ Jason Varitek (Hyannis in 1991, 1993), Kevin Youkilis (Bourne, 2000), Jacoby Ellsbury (Falmouth, 2004) and Mike Lowell (Chatham, 1994). The 2010 game will mark the 46th in the league’s “modern era” and the 23rd using the present East Division vs. West Division format.

“Each summer, the Cape League All-Star Game is our premier showcase event,” said Cape Cod League president Judy Walden Scarafile. “It is eagerly anticipated by everyone connected with the league, especially our players and our many fans.Having it take place at Fenway, America’s Most Beloved Ballpark, is only fitting as we celebrate the 126th year of Cape Cod baseball. Last year's event at Fenway, in spite of inclement weather, was a huge success. We are thrilled to be returning!”

The event will be an exciting, family-friendly night at Fenway, offering an action-packed game. Before the first pitch is thrown, there will be a Home Run Derby, autograph session with the All-Stars and a silent auction featuring various baseball memorabilia.

Discounted concession items will also be offered for those that just want to enjoy the park's atmosphere and the famous Fenway Franks.

All tickets are general admission and priced at $10. They can be purchased online, or by phone at (877) REDSOX-9. The Red Sox' TTY number for hearing-impaired fans is (617) 226-6644.

Fenway Sports Group promoted executive vice presidents Billy Hogan and Mark Lev to co-managing directors this week. In the new position, Hogan and Lev will be responsible for overseeing the sports marketing agency's business operations and continuing the growth of the company, each in different capacities.

“Billy Hogan and Mark Lev have proven to be indispensable assets to FSG and have continually demonstrated their ability to develop winning strategies that ensure the long-term growth of this organization,” said Fenway Sports Group president Sam Kennedy. “With their strong sales background and tremendous sports marketing experience, these two talented individuals have been major catalysts in helping FSG develop an impressive client roster of leading national brands.”

Although Hogan and Lev now hold the same job title and report directly to Kennedy, the two have expertise in different practice areas.

Hogan, who joined the company in 2004, earned the promotion after being credited with bolstering revenue for clients such as MLBAM, Fenway Park, the Deutsche Bank Championship and Boston College Athletics. He will continue his role securing sponsorships for MLB.com as well as Major League Baseball’s 30 individual club Web sites.

Lev, who began one year after Hogan, will lead the groups' consulting and events areas as well as manage property representation and sponsorship sales. He will resume his work in exploring and securing new business opportunities for FSG.

The study shows that since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell implemented a strict conduct policy in April 2007, arrests and major citations this past year have declined to half the number seen a year prior to the crackdown.

The Union-Tribune tracked 495 incidents in the past decade, citing that NFL players had 44 cases in the past year. The NFL averages one arrest per 47 players annually, which is better overall than the American public, which has a rate of one arrest for every 22 people.

Since the 2007 policy, Goodell has suspended 15 players, which is almost double the number Paul Tagliabue suspended in his final years as commissioner.

Goodell's iron fist isn’t a complete cure-all, however. The league's biggest infraction still remains drunk driving. Twenty-eight percent of player arrests are charged with DUIs, tainting the image of the NFL. All teams have tried to combat the problem by enlisting a ride home program.

The next biggest issue involves disorderly conduct and fighting, accounting for 22 percent of the incidents. Minnesota and Cincinnati top the charts for most criminal incidents with 30 since 2000. The Chargers have 22, including six since April 2007. On the other hand, Detroit and St. Louis have the fewest run-ins with the law.

“The impact of those behaviors, even if noncriminal, are immediately felt, readily apparent and have an obvious impact on our brand and what we’re trying to stand for as a league,” Adolpho Birch, the NFL’s vice president of law and labor policy, told the newspaper.

And this time Roger Clemens is not involved.

Legislature's next item on the docket is banning chewing tobacco from the major leagues, The Associated Press reports.

Here's the argument put forth by former major leaguer and anti-tobacco advocate Joe Garagiola, who testified in the congressional hearing.

"I would like the players … who are role models, I don't care what anybody says … to quit carrying a can of dip in their uniform pockets," Garagiola said. "Why can't baseball and the players' association right here get together and ban it? Take it off the field. Tobacco is tobacco is tobacco. … Get it out of our game."

Sure, our government is attempting to prevent players and impressionable fans from ending up like this guy, but chewing tobacco has been in the dugouts for decades.

"Good luck," San Francisco Giants reliever Brandon Medders told the AP. "Guys do what they do. We work outside. It's been part of the game for 100 years."

California Democrat Henry Waxman, the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and New Jersey Democrat Frank Pallone, chairman of the Health Subcommittee, met on Wednesday in an effort to pressure MLB to prohibit tobacco products such as dip and chew from major league games.

"We don't let baseball players go stand out there in the field and drink beer," Waxman said to open the hearing. "Major League Baseball won't allow them to step on the field and smoke cigarettes. So why should they be out there on the field — in sight of all their fans on television and at the ballpark — using smokeless tobacco?"

MLB's executive VP Robert Manfred and Players' Association chief labor counsel David Prouty agreed with lawmakers that these habits are harmful, but also noted that a ban would have to be agreed upon through collective bargaining, which could prove difficult.

According to Examiner.com, approximately one-third of big leaguers chew tobacco based on statistics put out by Harvard University professor Gregory Connolly.

Unfortunately for Medders and other tobacco users, Congress has seen successful in its past restriction efforts. Smoking while in uniform is already banned across all levels of baseball, and smokeless tobacco was banned in the minors in 1993.

"For them to pull it off in the minors really surprised me," Twins reliever Pat Neshek told the AP. "We'll see if that gains much traction."

Neshek does not chew tobacco himself, but remembers players in the minor leagues getting around the rules.

"People would still do it," he said. "I don't know if they'd mix it in with their gum or something like that."

For this season, tins in back pockets and bulging lips will remain untouched, but after the labor contract expires in December 2011, many ballplayers may have to make the switch to Big League Chew.

In an effort to continue the tradition he started last year, commissioner Bud Selig invited all on-field personnel to wear the first African-American baseball player's number to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day.

"Jackie Robinson's incredible legacy continues to impact our society today," Selig said in a statement. "Baseball's proudest moment was when Jackie took the field in 1947, so it is important to always remember him and his achievements. It is a privilege to pay tribute to the effect he had on baseball and our country by continuing to honor his Number 42."

The number was retired throughout the entire league in 1997. Since 2004, Robinson's legacy and impact on baseball has been honored on April 15, in memory of when he played his first game as the Brooklyn Dodgers' first baseman at Ebbets Field on April 15, 1947.

"When Jack stepped onto Ebbets Field on April 15, 1947, he set a new course for American history both in the game and in society," said Rachel Robinson, the late ballplayer's wife and founder of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. "I am grateful that Major League Baseball continues to honor his enduring impact, along with the values he lived by, both on and off the baseball field."

In addition to teams joining together to don the revered number, the Robinson family will attend a special on-field ceremony at Yankee Stadium before the Yanks take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Rachel Robinson and daughter Sharon Robinson, who is vice chair for the foundation, will be present for the celebration. Jesse Simms, Robinson's grandson, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Each ballpark will have its own pregame ceremony, and teams on the road will commemorate Robinson's legacy at their next home game. The clubs will use ceremonial home plates and lineup cards that will include the Jackie Robinson Day logo.

Every club will sign one No. 42 jersey to be auctioned on MLB.com to benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which was established in 1973. The foundation provides college scholarships, graduate school grants and mentoring to minority students with strong academics and leadership capacity. MLB sponsors more than 60 Jackie Robinson Scholars.

Major League Baseball also will air a 30-second television ad called "42: Beyond a Number" to remind viewers of Robinson's significance with a montage of imagery, including him and today's players and on-field personnel all wearing No. 42.

"Being African-American, he was one of the first players I learned about," Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter told MLB.com. "Obviously, I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for his legacy, but more importantly for me, it's the relationship that I've built up with his daughter and wife throughout the years. Getting to know them and how special they are just goes to show how special he had to be."

Players from the 2009 season will receive their championship rings, and four will be handed their fifth.

Andy Pettitte, who will start for the Yankees, is one of the five-time champs, along with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada. All four players will each have a whole hand of bling and are the first players to win five titles with one team since Yogi Berra (10), Mickey Mantle (seven) and Whitey Ford (six) in 1962, according to The Associated Press.

As players and spectators file into the stadium, they will see what little is left of the nearly leveled old Yankee Stadium. The celebration will honor past feats and broken records that were seen in what is now rubble.

"The guys were like, 'Well, the stadium's gone,'" Pettitte told the AP. "It's gone, and it's not going back up. It was sad when you see that ballpark still sitting over there last year when we took the field here, but you just remember all the great memories we had there, and you hoped to start building some memories, and we have already done that."

Berra, a legendary tenant of the old park, holds the most championship jewelry of any player in MLB history. He and Ford will give out the rings at the pregame ceremony.

Although five championships is an outstanding accomplishment, Alex Rodriguez may have the biggest smile as he receives the first ring of his career, which began in 1994 with the Mariners.

"I think he'll have that feeling that he's walking on air," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "I'm really going to enjoy that smile on his face."

Hideki Matsui, the 2009 World Series MVP, now wears an Angels uniform, but he will join his former teammates prior to becoming the competion.

"I think people will go crazy," CC Sabathia told The New York Times. "He was a big part of our team, the reason why we won last year."

Whether a player is handed his first ring or fifth, it is an honor — even if it isn’t a fashion statement.

"I won't be wearing mine," first-time World Series champion Sabathia told the Times."Most of them are huge — you don’t want to be walking around with those things. To be honest, I haven't seen anybody wearing one for years."

But they're nice to have.

Jim Carrey knows that misery loves company, so why not lash out on others' misfortune to deal with his recent split from Jenny McCarthy? First on his chopping block was Elin Woods, Tiger Woods' wife.

With Twitter as his soapbox, Carrey said that Woods' wife was a "willing participant" in her husband's infidelity, according to The Huffington Post.

On Friday, he posted a series of Tweets stating that Woods owes nothing to anyone, and that the world should check its "collective ego and let the man play golf."

Carrey continued his sport commentary posting:

"If you really wanna see sexual disfunction get 2 know your favorite basketball star! Curling is the only safe sport 4 a married man! d;^'"

After taking a dig at the entire NBA, he then focused his attention on Elin, writing:

"No wife is blind enough to miss that much infidelity. Elin had 2 b a willing participant on the ride 4 whatever reason. kids/lifestyle ;^)"

The comedian-turned-sports-commentator later said that he was told to tone down his tweets, adding a scoffing post about eating an uncontroversial peanut butter sandwich and an acceptable glass of milk. The intentionally blasé post was quickly followed with him Tweeting:

Anderson Silva retained his middleweight championship at UFC 112, but he may have lost something more valuable: respect.

According to Yahoo Sports, Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White threw Silva’s title belt toward the fighter’s manager at the end of the fourth round to express utter disgust with Silva’s performance against Demian Maia.

Silva danced around the ring making faces, ran in circles and acted like a general fool. His mocking behavior was considered a severe affront to the sport. The Ferrari World crowd, which paid a total of $3.5 million to see the bout — as well as the hundreds of thousands who paid to see it on pay-per-view — felt cheated.

White might have been most upset with the fighter's conduct, though, and said punishment would be handed down.

“I’ll answer the questions about what a disgrace the main event was and what an embarrassment it is,” White told the media at the postfight news conference. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more embarrassed in 10 years of being in this business. It’s the first time I’ve ever walked out of a main event.”

Silva apologized in an interview with Joe Rogan, but the crowd of 11,008 was not convinced, chanting Maia’s name for the fifth round.

Silva won the fight by scores of 50-45, 50-45 and 49-46.

Silva declined to answer most questions about his buffoonery, but explained that he acted out because Maia disrespected him before the fight by threatening to break his arm.

“Unfortunately, not every fight turns out the way everyone would like,” Silva said through manager Ed Soares, who interpreted for the Brazilian. “I came here well-trained, but Demian disrespected me, not as a person, but he disrespected me as a fighter. I take that very seriously. I came here to do my job, which was to beat him up and punish him. That’s exactly what I did.”

But how long will Silva hold the title of pound-for-pound champion? He embarrassed the UFC brass in front of their new partners, an investment group in Abu Dhabi. And once fans turn on a fighter, they don’t always return.

Silva expressed interest in competing against 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre as a welterweight, but he may have forfeited that opportunity.

“He doesn’t deserve to fight GSP,” White said.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats aren’t unknown anymore. After a successful public relations stunt, the Canadian Football League team is on the map.

According to TheSpec.com, the Cats created a fake government Web site claiming to be the Public Health and Safety Board and disseminated fake news report about a tiger loose in Gore Park.

On the nonexistent Channel 13, Kate McKenna "reports" that there have been eight tiger sightings since Valentine's Day and interviews alleged witness Jason Riley. Jason Riley is no witness, but he is a former Ticat linebacker.

The Web site was traced to the team and registered to its street address.

The hoax successfully generated buzz around the validity of the tiger sightings, and now has given attention to the pranksters.

"I think it has been successful because there is buzz and people are starting to talk about it," Nick Bontis, McMaster University business and marketing professor, told TheSpec.com.

Bontis says that guerilla marketing and viral campaigns can be good strategic tactics. But giving people a forum to discuss the stunt is an important component for viral initiatives.

"The biggest mistake the team made was that they didn't allow a message board immediately underneath the video on the Web site," Bontis told the TheSpec.com. "That's what guerrilla marketing is all about. It's not just about the ad. It's about seeing what other people are saying about the ad."

Despite this criticism, Bontis believes the campaign has gained steam and will continue.

"The timing is good because they are going to generate some interest at a time when you wouldn't normally be getting a lot of coverage," he said. "I hope that this is a series of clips — that something else happens. That's the way you build momentum for these things."

But not everyone sees the humor.

"Actually, this is the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time," one commenter wrote on a local blog. "My elderly mother lives on Park Street downtown Hamilton and is now afraid to go outside, afraid to go to church, afraid to do her daily shopping. Thanks Tiger-Cats, for making my mother a shut-in with your publicity stunt."

You can’t please everyone.

The Cleveland Cavaliers clinched a playoff spot over a week ago, so last Friday's game against the Indiana Pacers wasn’t life-or-death. Matthew Warmus thought different.

In a fit to see the Cavs at the Quicken Loans Arena, Warmus shot and killed parking lot attendant David Williams after being refused a handicapped parking space without the proper sticker, The Associated Press reports.

The 27-year old Williams was honored with a candlelight vigil Sunday night. Two hundred people joined to remember the parking attendant who "loved everybody."

Warmus, 25, has been arrested for the incident. According to police reports, the two men argued over the space. After the quarrel seemed to subside, Warmus retrieved a handgun from the trunk of his car. The Cuyahoga County coroner's office found he suffered from a bullet wound to the head and two to the abdomen.

"To take someone's life over something so, something that's nonsense is crazy," Dominque Tate, the mother of Williams's 4-year old son, told WKYC-TV. "It's hard to explain to him that he can't see his dad every day like he wants to. And now he can't talk to him, can't call him if he's sad or anything now."

Thanks to their efforts, which have been ongoing since before the 2008-09 season, the money will be divided and given to Norwood's Matt Brown and Best Buddies Massachusetts.

Best Buddies is an organization that creates opportunities for people with mental and physical disabilities to make friendships, obtain integrated employment and develop leadership skills.

Brown broke his neck in January while playing a high school hockey game. He currently is being treated at the Shepard Center in Atlanta.

Bob Sweeney, director of development for the Boston Bruins Foundation, and Matt Kalman, PHWA Boston chapter chairman, presented the $7,500 donations before the Bruins-Sabres matchup on Thursday night.
