Charlie Stahley, a 12-year-old from Andover, tried out for the Andover Nationals but didn't make the squad. However, that hasn't stopped him from supporting his friends.

Stahley, along with five other Andover crazies, were bare-chested for Tuesday's win over Yarmouth, Maine. Stahley had a capital "D" painted across his chest.

"I'm really close friends with all of them," Stahley told the Eagle-Tribune "It's really fun [being the 'D']."

The "D", along with five other letters, spelled out "Andova." Stahley and his friends couldn't find a seventh person willing to stand in the heat throughout the game to spell "Andover."

Garrett Finn, son of manager Paul Finn, was the seventh man earlier but wasn't up for another day of sweating paint.

"I did it yesterday, but I got all sweaty," Garrett said. "[The paint] was all dripping down. It wasn't so fun. It was brutal."

Andover lost to Goffstown, N.H., on Wednesday, but they're still alive, as they'll get a rematch with Goffstown in the New England regional semifinals on Thursday night at 7 p.m. on NESN.

If they advance to the Little League World Series, Stahley, Matt Nichols (The "O") and other chest-paint bearers will gladly make the trip to Williamsport to support their friends.

"It's fun," Nichols said. "It's the best the team has been in a long time."

Holgorsen, via email, has reached out to the entire student body to help with the team's recent depth issues that have arisen due to injuries and transfers, according to Adam Kramer.

Holgorsen and the Mountaineers coaching staff will hold walk-on tryouts on Aug. 22 in search of some diamonds in the rough — or at least someone willing to take a beating from the first team.

West Virginia's starting quarterback Geno Smith should have a big year for the Mountaineers in Morgantown this season. Smith threw for 24 touchdowns and 2,763 yards last season.

Paul Millard is Smith's primary backup but, more importantly, he's the only other quarterback listed on the Mountaineers' roster.

Mike Aviles will instead get the start at second and will bat ninth. Aviles is 3-for-8 with a double and a triple against Twins starter Nick Blackburn.

Marco Scutaro, who will play shortstop after a night off, will move up to Pedroia's usual No. 2 spot in the order. Scutaro enters Wednesday with seven hits in his last eight at-bats.

Josh Reddick also returns to the lineup. He'll get the start in right field and bat eighth.

Jon Lester, who gets the nod for the Sox, is 1-2 in his career against the Twins with 28 strikeouts and a 4.67 ERA. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is back behind the plate.

Durant's agent, Aaron Goodwin told ESPN Tuesday night that Durant has begun negotiations with the Turkey club Besiktas. Deron Williams has already signed with the club and has been pursuing Kobe Bryant.

Goodwin also told ESPN that Durant is exploring options in Spain and Russia.

"The Turkish option is very intriguing," Goodwin said. "We're looking at other countries as well. Kevin hasn't agreed to play anywhere yet, but we're looking for the best fit."

Hopefully she understands why TSA is so upset with her after her latest stunt.

Playboy’s Miss July 2010 was arrested Wednesday at Orlando International Airport for trying to sneak a gun onto an airplane. McLaughlin claimed her boyfriend put the gun in her bag and she had no idea it was in there.

McLaughlin, a UCF alum, made headlines last summer after doing a racy photo shoot inside the UCF football locker room. McLaughlin said she was just trying to show some “school spirit” and wasn’t sure why school officials got so upset.

Now, the former fifth overall pick by the New Orleans Saints, is set to begin his newest chapter in Baltimore as Williams reportedly signed a two-year contract with the Ravens worth up to $4 million Monday, NBC’s Pro Football Talk reports.

Baltimore lost veteran running back Willis McGahee this offseason, and the acquisition of Williams should compliment Ray Rice nicely and provide Baltimore with a “between the tackles type runner.”

The former Heisman Trophy winner has 64 career rushing touchdowns and has carried the ball for 9,740 yards in eight NFL seasons.

Leonel Angel Coira, considered the next 'Leo,' signed with Real Madrid Monday in nearly half the time it took Messi to ink a professional contract, the Chicago Tribune reports. Coira is just seven years old.

The youngster from Argentina was also being pursued by Atletico Madrid. He will begin training with the club on Sept. 6 and already has a facebook page with photos from the club.

Coira idolizes Messi but says he prefers to set up goals rather than score. Maybe the two Leos will one day be terrorizing clubs on the same squad.

Unfortunately, some people lose any sense of dignity when a foul ball comes their way and scar young baseball fans for life.

Sunday night, one Red Sox fan did the right thing and handed over his souvenir to a youngster two rows in front of him. It's doubtful the youngster made it to the 10th inning to see Josh Reddick's walkoff single, but he'll always have one of the most sought souvenirs in sports.

Stenhouse Jr. held the lead coming around turn four in Saturday’s Nationwide race at Iowa when he blew his engine. Luckily for him, Roush Fenway Racing teammate Edwards was there to give him a little push to make it across the finish line.

The only one who might be upset is Jack Roush himself — after all, someone has to pay for the damage, right?

Both get the start for their respective clubs on Friday night at Fenway Park, as the Sox and Yankees open up a three-game series.

Adrian Gonzalez started the scoring for the Red Sox the last time they faced Colon with a two-run home run in the fourth. He'll start at first and bat third Friday. 

Kevin Youkilis added a two-run homer of his own during that game. He'll bat cleanup and play third.

Derek Jeter leads things off for the Bronx Bombers. Jeter has three RBIs in six games against Boston this season. Robinson Cano gets the start at second and will bat cleanup.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia will be behind the plate and bat seventh after a night off on Thursday. Josh Reddick gets the start in right field, a game after blasting his fifth home run of the season.

Zack Hample, MLB's "ball hawk," has taken away all that excitement of catching a ball inside your team's ballpark.

Hample arrives at ballparks for batting practice, not to watch his favorite players, but to snag baseballs to add to his collection of over 5,000. He's taken it to a whole other level as well.

Hample brings different shirts to stadiums, including apparel for both teams, so players throwing balls into the crowd won't recognize him. He's caught 5,255 baseballs in over 48 major league parks since he began.

If you spot Hample in a ballpark near you, don't bother putting your glove on. Way to ruin every little kid's dream.

However, there are some “WAGs” (wives and girlfriends) out there who are putting that idea to shame. Kim Kardashian is engaged to New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries. Be honest, did you even know what team Humphries was on before he started dating Kardashian?

People know Carrie Underwood’s preferred genre of music is country, but how many Americans out there know which NHL team Mike Fisher, Underwood’s husband, plays for?

On Wednesday, Shea Weber was awarded a one-year, $7.5 million contract by an arbitrator, the most ever awarded through arbitration. The deal, according to NBC's Pro Hockey Talk, was $1 million less than Weber was asking for, but $3 million more than Nashville was offering.

Weber has made it clear that he wants to stay in Nashville, but that he wants pieces put around him to help the team win now. However, the team saw Joel Ward, Steve Sullivan, Cody Franson and Shane O'Brien all exit town following the end of the 2011 season.

And with the addition of Brett Lebda and Niclas Bergfors this offseason, the pieces Weber is looking for are seemingly still out there.

Weber, who led the Predators to the second round of the playoffs, is one of the top defenseman in the league. He joins Brian Campbell as the only defensemen who will have a salary cap hit of over $7 million this season.

However, it seems like Nashville might not be all that Weber had in mind. Weber will become a restricted free agent next summer if he and the team can't agree on a long-term deal.

Finding the missing pieces might be Nashville's only choice in keeping the blue liner in town.

Kesler also underwent surgery for a hip labrum in January 2007.

Kesler injured the hip against the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Final and was clearly a different player after that. Through 18 games in the playoffs, he had 18 points. He had just one assist in the Stanley Cup Final against Boston.

Rodriguez was warned by commissioner Bud Selig in 2005 to stay away from the illegal poker scene, but Rodriguez didn't listen. On July 1, radaronline.com released a report claiming that A-Rod was at a game with big-name celebrities such as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Now, MLB executives are looking into the matter more seriously and say a suspension "would be very much in play," ESPN reports.

According to one baseball insider that spoke with ESPN, Selig and MLB are tired of Rodriguez's behavior and will most likely take action.

"Bud's totally fed up with him," said a baseball insider. "It's like there's something new with him every day and it's impossible to keep up with it."

Poker reportedly wasn't the only thing going on, either. According to reports, cocaine was being used, and a fight almost broke out as well.

Dustin Pedroia

Scattered in between July 1 and July 31 was a 25-game hit streak (which began June 29), a .411 average (46-for-112), nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 22 RBI and 27 runs. Pedroia's efforts in July earned him his first career AL Player of the Month award.

The hit streak was the longest by a second baseman in Red Sox franchise history.

Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Pedroia had won the award. Teammate Adrian Gonzalez won the award for June.

The three-time All-Star finished first in batting average, hits, slugging percentage (.723) and total
bases (81), for the month of July. Pedroia also recorded 46 hits, the most for a Red Sox player since 1939 when Bobby Doerr (52), Ted Williams (48) and Jimmy Foxx (47) all recorded more.

Wednesday, the Bruins released the preseason schedule with Sept. 16 marked as the official open of camp. First on-ice practices begin Sept. 17.

And as if five games during the regular season isn't enough, the Bruins will face the Montreal Canadiens twice before the regular season begins.
