But that didn't stop former Packers defensive linemen Matt Brock from trying, anyway.

Brock told KXTG 750-AM in Portland, Oregon that Suh's Thanksgiving stomp may have been a result of repeated instigation (hat tip to mlive.com for the find). According to Brock, Packers offensive line coach James Campen may have instructed Dietrich-Smith to repeatedly untie Suh's shoes.

"He untied his shoes three times in the game," said Brock. "That's why he stomped him. That's why he banged his head on the ground and he stomped him. When [Suh] went to the sideline it looked like he was telling the coach, 'I didn't do anything' and he put his foot up like, 'I didn't stomp him. I didn't do anything.' He was actually going, 'The damn guy keeps untying my shoes.'"

Brock explains that one reason for the gamesmanship may have been Green Bay's lack of experience on an injury-depleted offensive line.

"The center, or one of [the Packers'] guards, he's had like one or two starts in his career and he's got to play against Suh," Brock said. "So he's pretty puckered, right? So, he talking to James, the offensive line coach, going, 'What do I do? What do I do?' James is just in his mind going, 'This guy is going to get killed. I got to take his mind off it, give him something else to do.' So he says, 'Ok, every time you're in a pile, I want you to focus on something. I want you to untie his shoes.'"

According to mlive.com, there's no evidence to verify these claims, and with Suh taking a very Belichickian approach to the topic, there's little chance of him explaining the series of events anytime soon.

A lot of things have been said about Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow since he was named Denver's starting quarterback eight games ago. Chief among those: "All he does is win."

But Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher made sure to add his thoughts to the mix after his team became the latest victim of Tebow time. His comments? "He's a good running back … He does a good job for them," according to ESPN.

Wait a minute.

These comments made me raise both my eyebrows. One eyebrow raised over the fact that Urlacher made these comments in defeat. He's been known to speak his mind, but his comments are typically more reasonable than this. This came just minutes after Tebow was indefensible by the Bears defense in the fourth quarter and overtime, when the unrefined quarterback went 18-for-24 (75 percent) for 191 yards and a touchdown.

The other eyebrow raised over the fact that Tebow, while he may not be a very good — or even moderately good — passer, he is certainly more than a running back.

Pardon the cliche, but he's a pretty good football player.

Tebow has become a sensation for his ability to capitalize on opportunities to win games, but he's doing it in historic ways. His five fourth-quarter comebacks this season tie him for third all-time in a single season, and that's with a five-game handicap after not starting until Week 6. In fact, according to Scott Kacsmar of Cold Hard Football Facts, he is the fastest quarterback to ever reach his sixth career fourth-quarter comeback.

All this is affirmation to what we already know: Tebowmania is running wild. But what sets Tebow apart? What makes Tebow more than just a "good running back"? He is smart with the football. He avoids dumb mistakes. He doesn't give the ball away, having been picked off just twice and having lost just three fumbles this season.

Take, for example, the final drive against the Bears that put the Broncos in position to hit the tying field goal that sent the game to overtime. Tebow had an easy opportunity to hit a wide open running back in the middle of the field, but ran toward the sideline instead. That decision stopped the clock, and avoided what would have been a hairy situation for the field goal unit.

There are a lot of "good" NFL quarterbacks that don't understand this simple fundamental concept: Taking care of the football and making smart decisions puts the team in a good position to win football games. Tony Romo, Michael Vick and Carson Palmer all immediately come to mind as those who don't always remember that.

Tebow takes care of the football and takes advantage of opportunities to win football games. He does both well enough to avoid the label of "running back," but has he done enough to earn the label of quarterback? You'd be hard-pressed to make that argument just nine games into his NFL career.

Make no mistake — Tebow is far from the only reason the Broncos are winning games. Credit a good defense and a great kicker as the "other" components to Denver's six-game winning streak and 7-1 record with Tebow as its starting quarterback.

As for his future as a quarterback, NESN analyst Matt Chatham pointed out on WEEI.com the absence of cause-and-effect in Tebow's wins. He spends the first three quarters playing terrible football, and the final quarter (and sometimes overtime) making up for it. Accurate passes are one of the most important components of being an NFL quarterback, and Tebow fails in that department for three quarters every Sunday. It's an area that he'll have to improve drastically if he wants to avoid the windfall of cause-and-effect when and if it should make its return.

He may not be an NFL-caliber quarterback just yet, but for now, at least, he's an NFL-caliber player, and that much shouldn't be undermined until he does enough to undermine it on his own.

The Saints have won 10 games this season, but if a couple of Titans linemen have it right, their latest victory may be a little dubious.

ESPN reports that veteran offensive linemen Jake Scott and Michael Roos say the Saints were illegally blowing whistles from their sideline late in the game, particularly on the Titans' second-to-last offensive possession.

Scott said Dean McCondichie, who produces the team's television show Titans All Access, has evidence of the whistle-blowing on tape, according to the report.

"There is audio of it," Scott said, "so we'll let it go from there."

Titans head coach Mike Munchak didn't want to wrongfully accuse anyone, but planned to look into it, saying, "You assume no one would be trying to do something like that to affect the game in some way."

A Saints spokesman told ESPN the team would have no immediate comment.

The New England Patriots have scored 30 or more points in 10 of their 13 games this season. And they may need to continue to do so if they want to make a postseason push.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady addressed that on Monday in his weekly appearance on The Dennis & Callahan Morning Show on WEEI.

“I wish [Sunday] we scored in the mid-40s,” said Brady. “That’s what I really wish we did. We had opportunities to do it. The only people that have really have stopped us are ourselves, and our mistakes and the things that we’re not really playing up to our level of expectations.”

Those expectations were set high last season when Tom Brady threw just four interceptions, a total he matched in the span of one game against the Bills.

The scary part? There may be no margin for error when this team gets into games in January. Brady knows that, and addressed it in the following breath.

“It’s something that we talk about every week and something that we’ve just got to do a better job at,” added Brady. “Because we sit here at 10-3, and yeah, we’re in a good position, but we’ve got to really start playing our best brand of football.”

One guy who has been playing his best brand of football all season long is tight end Rob Gronkowski, who officially broke the record for receiving touchdowns in a single season by a tight end with his 14th against the Redskins, and reeled in a second touchdown to mark his sixth game with two or more receiving touchdowns this season.

“I think the thing that I’ve been most impressed about with him is since the day he got here, he’s trended upwards,” said Brady. “Every day. He never really makes the same mistake twice. As a young player, look, you have a lot of good plays and then you have a lot of bad plays, really just because of a lack of experience. But then as you make mistakes and you learn from those mistakes, you make improvements. And he’s never really regressed.”

If Gronkowski continues on his upward trend, the sky is the limit for him and the Patriots offense.

Then, of course, he heard that the trade had been voided by the league.

What’s a man to do?

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Odom. “I’ll pray about it.”

Steelers linebacker James Harrison knew it was coming. He had to.

Personal foul. Roughing the passer. Helmet-to-helmet contact. Fifteen yards. What else does he know is coming? A league fine.

We know what’s coming, too: The inevitable defense of Harrison from his coach and teammates. Browns quarterback Colt McCoy may have been the latest defenseless victim, but Harrison’s hits are indefensible.

Of course, that didn’t stop Harrison from defending himself after the game.

“From what I understand, once the quarterback leaves the pocket, he’s considered a runner,” Harrison said. “All the defenseless[ness] and liberties that a quarterback has in the pocket are gone and you can tackle him just as he’s a running back. The hit wasn’t late, so I really don’t understand why it was called.”

If Harrison doesn’t understand now, after being fined a total of $125,000 in 2010 for illegal hits, he’ll never understand. His foul was so egregious, it violated not one, not two, but three sections of the NFL rulebook.

One: “If a player uses any part of his helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/’hairline’ parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily.” Check.

Two: “Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head, neck, or face with the helmet or facemask, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him.” Check.

Three: “Lowering the head and violently or unnecessarily making forcible contact with the ‘hairline’ or forehead part of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player’s body.” Checkmate.

Harrison’s understanding of the rulebook is wrong, and if he doesn’t understand why it’s a penalty, it’s easily explained in 10 words: he lowered his head, and hit McCoy in the head.

Just look at the photo.

That’s a pretty cut-and-dry violation, if you ask me. Feel free to watch the highlight of the hit if that’s not conclusive enough evidence. Harrison was looking directly at McCoy when he threw the ball. Still ready to defend him?

Yet all hope may not be lost for Harrison to keep his kid’s tuition fund intact. According to Pro Football Talk, there’s a provision in the rule that may save Harrison from being fined yet again.

“If the quarterback is ‘attempting to advance the ball as a runner,’ all protections for the passer apparently go away,” the rule says. This is where a potential gray area in the rule could save Harrison from yet another league fine.

But even if Harrison isn’t fined for his latest hit, isn’t it time to up the ante? The simple fact that one must now search for gray areas in the rules to find an excuse for Harrison’s hits is a testament to his history of them and his inability to learn from them.

No one searched for gray areas when Ndamukong Suh stomped Evan Dietrich-Smith, and that was enough to earn a two-game suspension. Even if Harrison isn’t fined, how much do you want to bet it’ll happen again?

And that alone should be enough to warrant the threat of a suspension.

It's been an up-and-down season for Boston University, and senior goalie Kieran Millan has been at the forefront.

But his career up to this point has been great, as he's had the rare opportunity to start for the Terriers since his freshman year and even earned the school record for wins by a goalie after a win over the University of New Hampshire.

NESN.com's Chantel McCabe caught up with Millan, and the two talked about how he got started in hockey, his collegiate career at BU, his favorite moment with the Terriers, his thoughts on the season and more.

And get this: He hates his sports psychology class. Guess he doesn't need anyone to pump his tires.

Check out the rest of the interview in the video above.

Still, no one could do anything about it.

Fortunately, flex scheduling saved national television from the nightmare that could have been a prime time matchup between the Patriots and the winless Colts, originally scheduled for Sunday night.

Unfortunately, such flex scheduling doesn’t exist for Monday Night Football, and the nation watched in awe (or was that a stupor?) as the 4-7 San Diego Chargers, hot off a six-game losing streak, dismantled the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are lucky they’re in the same division as the winless Colts, or else they might be the embarrassment of the year.

The reasons why they should allow flex scheduling are pretty obvious. It would prevent bore fests like the one we saw last night. The reasons why they shouldn’t, however, are a little less obvious or all-encompassing.

Travel plans are a hassle, and since not everyone flies Southwest, change fees would cause some problems for fans needing to reschedule their flights, not to mention the hassle of re-booking hotel rooms and other inconveniences for traveling fans.

Cities that host Monday night games probably see a bit more revenue for those games than they do for others during the season, as the prime time spotlight is likely considered a draw for fans, sponsors and more.

Thus, while it might inconvenience the national television audiences to sit through a borefest on Monday night, it might more greatly inconvenience the hosts of the games and the fans in attendance should their game get flexed out of that Monday night spot.

During the third period of the Bruins win over the Penguins on Monday night, a scary collision took place.

As Penguins center Evgeni Malkin avoided a hit from Bruins defensemen Zdeno Chara, Malkin attempted to cut back but skated right into a head-on collision from left winger and a cage-wearing Daniel Paille.

The result? A little Paille to the face.

There was no penalty on the ugly play, and rightly so as it appears to be an accident. Fortunately, Malkin returned to play shortly thereafter.

Watch the whole thing go down in the video below.

And although the honors handed out were the big stories, there was a bit of other news to come out of the event. Namely, Dale Earnhardt Jr. making a public appearance with his girlfriend, Amy Reimann.

Stories began surfacing back in April 2010 that the two were dating while Reimann was married to former Kentucky football player Tommy Cook, according to Larry Brown Sports.

Of course, there were plenty of other names and faces at the event, which was even attended by Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. Many of the drivers appeared on the red carpet alongside their significant other.

This has opened the door to several rumors — with merit or otherwise — about the team pursuing a quarterback on the free agent market.

The subject of those rumors? Donovan McNabb and… you guessed it, Brett Favre.

Put an end to it all now: Bears head coach Lovie Smith killed two birds with one stone on Monday at a news conference.

"We're not looking on the outside [for a quarterback]," said Smith. "We don't have a quarterback tryout or anything like that."

The current front man of the group is Caleb Hanie, who has been sacked 11 times and picked off six times in his two starts this season, both losses. But none of that deterred Smith from giving him a vote of confidence to the media.

"Caleb's our quarterback," Smith said.

So there you go.

Why should he be? For that matter, why should anyone?

Yes, they gave up just three points until the fourth quarter, which would then qualify said fourth quarter as "garbage time." But by the time the game had ended, you could have sworn Peyton Manning was the one commandeering the fourth quarter comeback and not Dan Orlovsky.

And on that note, Orlovsky, who has never had over a 100 passer rating in his career, torched the Patriots defense on Sunday to the tune of a 113.2 rating, completing 30 of his 37 attempts. I'm not very good at math, but by my calculations, that's seven incompletions for the entire game.

He's far from the first quarterback to torch this defense, but he might just be the worst quarterback to do so. That being said, most of his production came with the game well out of reach. It was enough, though, to once again leave us with many questions about the defense.

The biggest question: What can be gleaned from this defensive performance?

The answer: Not a lot, if anything at all.

There are still serious doubts about this defense after a near-meltdown in the fourth quarter, but that would have been the case even if the Patriots had held the Colts to three points for the entire game. The fact of the matter is that the Patriots continue to face some of the league's worst offenses. It's been that way for the past few weeks, and it will continue down the stretch with no great opponents in sight until January.

The critics will be critical until the Patriots defense gets it done against good competition, regardless of whether they get it done against inferior competition. That's the way it is, and that's the way it should be.

Ultimately, we learned nothing — good or bad — about this defense against the Colts. We knew before Sunday, and still know now, that the offense is going to have to carry the load in January. There is no magic "elite defense switch" that this group can flip to get where it wants to go. Likewise, the Patriots won't get bad quarterbacks like Tyler Palko or Vince Young in the playoffs.

While Sunday's performance did nothing to inspire confidence in the Patriots' defense, it did nothing to change the fact that come January, the Patriots have as good a chance as anyone.

Every team in the AFC has shown its flaws. The Ravens have had a hard time stringing together two wins against quality opponents all season. The Texans are on their third quarterback, T.J. Yates (so maybe the Patriots will get a bad quarterback in January). Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer is as likely to turn in a good performance (two games over 100 passer rating) as a complete dud (four games below 80), and their defense is almost as shaky as New England's.

The Steelers look like New England's biggest threat, but won by just eight points at home while clearly outplaying the Patriots, and it would have been just six points were it not for a fluky safety in the closing minutes.

Put it this way: The Patriots have as good a chance as anyone in January. They still have Belichick as their coach and Tom Brady as their quarterback. While that formula hasn't been successful for them in their past three trips to the playoffs, it at least puts them in the mix for a run in 2011.

When a season comes unraveled as it has for the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles, it’s not rare to see tempers flare.

The latest event involved receiver DeSean Jackson, who hasn’t done himself any favors over the past few weeks in his pursuit of a new contract. Locker room video acquired by CSN Philly shows a premature end to a postgame locker room interview after Thursday night’s loss to the Seahawks.

During NFL Network’s broadcast of the game, cameras caught Jackson sitting on the bench with a blank stare as quarterback Vince Young was apparently trying to talk to him.

NFL Network’s sideline reporters alleged during the broadcast that Jackson hadn’t been speaking to his teammates while on the sideline.

When asked about these reports, Jackson said, “If that’s what they saw, then that’s what they saw. I’m not going into it.”

When asked further, he added, “I don’t have to sit here and answer those questions. My teammates know what it is.”

As the questions continued about his camaraderie with his teammates, his voice rose in frustration. When asked one final time about dissension, he gave a reporter a “psh,” mumbled something inaudible as he turned around, grabbed his backpack and left the locker room.

Catch the full video of the interview below.

Jackson hasn't been as much of a playmaker in 2011 as he's been in the past. After scoring a combined 20 touchdowns in the past two seasons (rushing, receiving and on punt returns), he has scored just two this season.

Add to this the sideline reports of a disconnect between Jackson and his teammates during Thursday night's game against the Seahawks, and his actions at the postgame interview, and if things continue to go the way they have for Jackson in Philadelphia, he may not have to worry about a franchise tag. They may just let him walk.

It just so happens the Patriots have a need for a young, dynamic wide receiver. Wes Welker and Deion Branch are "field stretchers" in their own right, but both are over the age of 30. New England's most promising young prospects at wide receiver are Taylor Price and Tiquan Underwood. Neither has caught a pass this season, and Underwood had an egregious drop against the Eagles on a wide open deep pass.

Jackson's plight is all too familiar in the NFL. On the one hand, you have a game-breaking wide receiver capable of stretching the field and providing explosive plays at the drop of a hat. On the other hand, you have a perceived prima donna who appears to put himself before the team.

The latter outweighs the former in many cases, but the opposite is also true, and the Patriots have been known to roll the dice on plenty of players with character concerns. Randy Moss, Corey Dillon, Albert Haynesworth and Chad Ochocinco are just the most notable instances.

The success rate of these cast-offs has been a mixed bag, but Jackson's playmaking ability makes him at least a worthwhile option to consider. And while the risk of locker room dissension may be enough to steer the Patriots clear of Jackson, the prospect of deep passes from Tom Brady to Jackson is certainly exciting. But then again, so was the prospect of deep passes from Brady to Ochocinco.

We just haven't heard him put it quite like this before. Not in a way that could be seen as a dig at another team.

Belichick was asked about his quarterback in an appearance on Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio. In addition to the usual praise for his quarterback, he also added, according to the Boston Herald's Ian Rapoport, that he was proud "that without Tom Brady we still won 11 games in [2008]. We have a program here."

The obvious parallel drawn is to the Indianapolis Colts, who are 0-11 this season without quarterback Peyton Manning. Belichick isn't the first to make mention of the 2008 Patriots in relation to the 2011 Colts, and he certainly won't be the last.

The comment sticks out, though, on a week where the Patriots host the winless, Manning-less Colts at Gillette Stadium.

Belichick is cognizant of every word every single player on his roster says. How could he not be aware of what he was saying — directly or indirectly — about the Colts?

What do you think? Was this an intentional jab at the Colts' organization?

Was Bill Belichick's comment about winning 11 games without Tom Brady a calculated dig at the Colts?

They have a quarterback in Tom Brady who is already in that category at his position.

Gronkowski is grateful to play alongside Brady, and he expressed that sentiment on a conference call Wednesday.

"It's definitely crazy," said Gronkowski. "It's a dream come true, definitely, to even be playing in the NFL, and to be out here and playing with the Patriots and with this team, it can't be any better."

Historically speaking, he's absolutely correct. The tight end has pulled in more touchdowns in the first two years of his career (21) than any other tight end in NFL history. He has five more games to add to his four touchdown lead over runner-up Mike Ditka in that category.

It's uncertain whether Gronkowski would have been able to attain that record without Brady throwing him the ball.

"He throws great balls at all times, and it's awesome just playing with him."

That's accurate. When Brady is targeting Gronkowski, he's accurate, too. This season, the two have hooked up on 60 of 83 attempts for 864 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 135.2.

O'Neal, who passed away on Tuesday, is remembered by friends and fans as a great comedian and a great friend.

His memorable take on the state of football is punctuated by hilarious imagery of an Indian circle celebrating an opponent's injury and wearing his opponent's socks on his helmet as a warning sign.

Ovechkin announced on Wednesday via his official Twitter account that he is dating Russian tennis star Maria Kirilenko.

He tweeted a picture of the couple together and added, “Me and my girlfriend Maria….she is my queen!!!!”

Rumors began to surface earlier this week about their relationship via the Montreal Gazette, but Ovechkin’s announcement seals the deal. The Gazette reported that Kirilenko has been spending her offseason in Arlington, Va., which is relatively close to Washington, D.C.

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports via Twitter, the league has suspended Suh two games for an incident involving him and Packers offensive linemen Evan Dietrich-Smith on Thanksgiving.

The tweet reads, “Lions have been informed by league office that Ndamukong Suh has been suspended by Commissioner 2 games without pay.”

This may not be the end of the incident, however. According to Pro Football Talk, Suh has three days to appeal the suspension, and then a hearing must be held within 10 days of that appeal. If Suh elects to go through that process, he could be available for Detroit’s contest with the 8-3 New Orleans Saints on Sunday night.
