The world’s best baseball players are usually the headliners at Fenway Park, but come May 15, the area’s best chefs will be Lyric Little Bandbox’s main attraction.

Boston Bites Back (BBB) will bring 100 of Boston’s top chefs together to raise $1 million for The One Fund, led by celebrity chefs Ken Oringer and Ming Tsai, the Red Sox, Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino and ARAMARK.

“BBB is an opportunity for the city to join as one and acknowledge our strength as a community,” said Oringer, owner of Clio, Toro, Coppa and Uni. “Nothing speaks more to our collective resolve than an evening of hospitality, unity and hometown pride in one of the most iconic venues in Boston — Fenway Park.”

“Food is our common ground, a universal experience,” said Tsai, owner of Blue Ginger and Blue Dragon. “This event is an occasion for Bostonians to reconnect over food, mingle with chefs and honor our city’s inspiring resilience. It’s an opportunity for Bostonians to literally ‘bite’ back.”

From 6-10 p.m. on May 15 at Fenway, chefs will be cooking and serving guests from behind concession stands as well as at tables throughout the Big Concourse and the Budweiser deck. Only 5,000 general access tickets will be sold at $200 each. There will also be 200 VIP tickets at $1,000 each, allowing additional access to an intimate and exclusive gathering in Fenway’s EMC Club.

An online auction leading up to the event will feature many one-of-a-kind packages including unique dining experiences from Oringer and Tsai and personal shopping with fashion expert Gretta Monahan.

The Red Sox announced Thursday that Frozen Fenway will return in 2014 with a four-game slate to be played over two weeks featuring some of the best college hockey programs in America.

It will be a two-week series with four games taking place over the course of two weeks in January. The first games will take place Saturday, Jan. 14, with the other two occurring a week later on Jan. 21.

Here is the schedule.

Jan. 4

Merrimack College vs. Providence College

Notre Dame vs. Boston College

Jan. 11

UMass-Lowell vs. Northeastern

University of Maine vs. Boston University

It’s quite the welcome to Hockey East for Notre Dame, who will join the conference for the 2013-14 season.

“We are excited about the return of hockey to Fenway Park,” Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna said. “We are particularly pleased that with these two doubleheaders, all of our men’s programs will have had the opportunity to experience Frozen Fenway, including the University of Notre Dame, our newest member.”

The Mayor’s Community Skates will also return, with the Fenway ice being opened to the public for free skating on Dec. 29 and Jan. 1.

Game times and ticket information are still to come.

Saturday, April 20 was an emotional day at Fenway Park, and it had little to do with a dramatic come-from-behind victory for the Red Sox.

Instead, the day was filled with moving tributes, as players, fans and others honored the victims, first responders and others involved in the attacks on the Boston Marathon.

From David Ortiz‘s memorable pregame speech to Neil Diamond‘s live rendition of “Sweet Caroline,” the day was filled with many moments that fans in attendance and watching from afar will never forget. While Daniel Nava‘s late-inning heroics propelled the Sox to a win over the Kansas City Royals, it was a very special day for the city of Boston regardless of any game’s outcome.

It’s not every day you see Gov. Deval Patrick sitting in the Red Sox’ dugout, waiting for a game to begin, but that’s what the scene was Saturday as the Red Sox prepared to play the Kansas City Royals in the team’s first game in Boston since the tumultuous events of the week unfolded.

Patrick joined first responders and members of law enforcement as the team honored everyone involved in Monday’s tragedy and the weeklong investigation.

While the Red Sox players’ main role Saturday was to play baseball, they were also involved in honoring the city and its heroes. Whether players are new to Boston or have spent a season or two around, they all knew Saturday was going to be, as outfielder Shane Victorino called it, “special.”

The ballplayers and everyone at Fenway Park paid homage to the relationship the team has with its city on Saturday, with Will Middlebrooks, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Jonny Gomes and Victorino sharing their thoughts before the game. Tom Caron and Peter Gammons then spoke about what it means to have the Sox back home at Fenway Park, and the relationship this team has quickly formed with the city and its people.

Check it out in the video above.

David Ortiz picked the perfect time to return to Boston.

Big Papi was back in town Saturday after working his way back from complications from last season’s Achilles’ injury, and he and the rest of his Red Sox teammates made it a special afternoon at Fenway Park. Ortiz greeted the crowd and pumped up the city (with some questionable language) before first pitch, thanking Boston’s leaders and the many heroes from this week.

Check it out in the video above.

The longest sellout streak in American sports has come to an end.

The Red Sox have announced that Fenway Park is not full to capacity for their matchup with the Orioles on Wednesday, breaking a streak of 794 regular-season sellouts (820 including playoffs). The streak began on May 15, 2003 and continued for nearly a decade, despite the addition of almost 2,000 new seats over that span.

A major league record, the streak nearly doubles the previous mark of 455 set by the Indians from 1995 to 2001. It became the longest in all American professional sports near the end of last season, surpassing the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers’ run of 814 sellouts in a row, including postseason games.

Though Wednesday’s contest did not sell out, the Sox still expect a crowd of more than 30,000 for the division battle with Baltimore, which began with first pitch shortly after 7 p.m.

Don’t look now, but the Red Sox are in first place. Actually, go look. We’ll wait.

It’s been a couple of years since the Sox started off the season atop the standings, so 2013 represents a welcome change for the franchise. With some new faces joining the fun, the team has gotten off to a hot start, and they return to Fenway Park riding a wade of optimism after a 13-0 shellacking of the Toronto Blue Jays.

NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette is excited to see the team in action at home for the first time not only because they’re playing well, but also because guys like Mike Napoli and Jonny Gomes will finally get a chance to do some damage at Fenway as members of the home team for once.

John Hancock Fenway Fantasy Day, scheduled for Saturday, June 15, gives fans a chance to bat and field on the same hallowed ground as the Red Sox’ stars, with friends and family cheering in the stands. Participants can choose from one of three packages, taking a 25-pitch at-bat (total package cost: $2,000), fielding for 30 minutes ($750) or playing a full inning of batting and fielding ($2,500).

All proceeds go to the Jimmy Fund, which is in its 60th year of partnering with the Red Sox to fight cancer.

Though Brown is confined to a wheelchair, he has been an active member of the community — the diehard Bruins fan dropped the opening puck at a B’s game last season and even completed last year’s Boston Marathon with the help of former Army Ranger Lucas Carr — and remains determined to regain feeling in his arms and legs.

Brown’s journey will be celebrated Saturday, April 6, with the third annual Matt Brown Gala, held this year at the State Street Pavilion and EMC Club at Fenway Park. The event, held at TD Garden last year and at Gillette Stadium in 2011, also recognizes youth hockey players and volunteers that exemplify Brown’s determination and commitment to the sport with the annual MB3 Never Quit awards.

Tickets for the dinner can be purchase for a recommended donation of $75.

Five hundreds tickets have already been purchased for the event, with only 200 still for sale. For information and to purchase tickets, visit mattbrownnumber3.org.

Update, Feb. 22, 2013: The Red Sox confirmed on Friday that Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake will be performing at Fenway Park on Aug. 10, 2013, as part of the Legends of Summer tour. Tickets to the general public go on sale Thursday, Feb. 28, at LiveNation.com.

It’s going to be a wild summer at America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.

Not only are John Farrell‘s Red Sox looking to turn things around after a disappointing 2012, but the Fens is hosting some of the biggest acts in the music industry, as both Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake will reportedly be coming to Fenway this summer, according to the Boston Herald.

“The Red Sox went to City Hall [Wednesday] asking for concert permits for Aug. 10 and 11 when the team is in Kansas City to play the Royals, the Herald reports. “Although the Sox didn’t specify the musical act, we’re told it’s the blockbuster combo of Timberlake, who hasn’t toured in six years, and the hip-hop giant.”

“I expect Jay-Z will make a spectacle in Boston, but I’m sure he won’t bring Derek Jeter up on stage,” Donnie Wahlberg, who played at Fenway in 2011, told the Herald.

Country music star Jason Aldean is already slated to play two nights at Fenway in July.

The Red Sox have sold out every home game at Fenway Park since 2003, setting a record among major league baseball teams. Unfortunately, it appears that the streak could soon be coming to a close.

Speaking to reporters in spring training on Thursday, Red Sox president Larry Lucchino admitted that he expects the streak to end in the near future, and possibly as soon as the team’s second home game on April 10.

Larry Lucchino says sellout streak will "rest in peace sometime in April." Says the team has sold 99.6% of seats in 11 yrs of ownership.
—
Tom Caron (@TomCaron) February 14, 2013

Fenway Park’s sellout streak of 793 games is the third-longest in professional sports history, behind the Dayton Dragons and Portland Trail Blazers. The Dragons, a Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, have sold out 913 straight games and counting, while the Blazers filled the Rose Garden for 814 straight games from 1977 through 1995.

The Eagles (30-13-1) hold the all-time Beanpot record with 10 championships. UMass has dominated in recent years, though, reaching the title game in three of the last five tournaments and taking home a pair of championships.

Harvard will look to end its Beanpot drought — they have not won a championship since 2005 and hold a 15-27-1 overall tournament record. Northeastern has struggled of late, winning just one tournament game since winning the Beanpot championship back in 2009.

The day will begin with a consolation game at 2 p.m., followed by the Beanpot championship game at 5 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Red Sox website.
