After all of the controversy, sanctions and suspensions, Terrelle Pryor has finally made it to the NFL.

On Monday he was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the NFL's Supplemental Draft, and on Thursday Pryor reached an agreement with the team for a four-year deal, according to ESPN.com.

Prior to the draft, Pryor was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the first five games of the season — the same number of games he would have been suspended had he continued to play at Ohio State.

While the former Buckeye quarterback cannot play for the Raiders until Week 6, now that he has officially signed a contract, he will be able to start practicing with the team.

It's the dawn of a new age. Gone are the days of dealing with garbage trucks scattering your paper playbook around town.

Say hello to the 21st century, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to the St. Petersburg Times, Bucs head coach Raheem Morris convinced the big wigs of the organization to shell out the cash (roughly $500 to $600 each) for 90 iPad 2s — one for each player on the team. The Bucs' playbook will be downloaded onto each iPad, replacing the old-fashioned paper playbooks that the rest of the league's teams are using.

"That's big ups to our organization thinking like that because it is the biggest thing right now and we have a young crowd," fourth-year linebacker Geno Hayes told the Times. "It's pretty big to have that at your disposal."

The iPads will also be used to go over video. Before, players had to request DVDs to watch at home, but with the introduction of the iPad into the locker room, players are easily able to study video of practices and games whenever they want.

"Back in the day, I think probably the whole team had to sit down with a projector and a reel, and watch the film together. They'd have the whole offense in the same meeting room," second-year safety Cody Grimm said. "Now we all have our own iPad. Stuff that we used to come in here to see, we can sit on our couch at home and have access to it 24-7. It's awesome."

While an iPad can be just as easily misplaced as a playbook (perhaps even easier), Morris is not worried about divulging any major team secrets.

"You've got a way to wipe [everything] off with the push of a button," he said.

That's the future for you — everything is just one click away.

Former Orioles great Mike Flanagan was found dead outside of his Maryland home on Wednesday. Initially, cause of death was not known.

The Baltimore Sun is now reporting that Flanagan’s death was an apparent suicide. Citing sources close to the investigation, the Sun reports that Flanagan died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Flanagan was a pitcher for the Orioles for 15 of his 18 seasons in the majors. He began and ended his career in Baltimore — with three seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays sandwiched in between. Flanagan won the Cy Young Award in 1979 and was a part of the Orioles’ 1983 World Series championship team.

After retiring, Flanagan continued his involvement with the Orioles’ organization, working as a color commentator during Orioles’ broadcasts on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.

Vernon Gholston does not like Rex Ryan.

The Jets' 2008 sixth overall draft pick made that much clear Monday night after his new team — the Chicago Bears — played the New York Giants in his first time back to New Meadowlands Stadium since being dumped by the Jets.

"Being a first-round pick, you would have hoped for more [of a chance]," Gholston said, according to the New York Post.

Ryan infamously called Gholston a "phony" in his book, "Play It Like You Mean It." But that was not the first comment that the Jets head coach made that irked Gholston.

"Rex made a comment to me when he first came in that he thought I wasn't liked by the guys on the team, then once he got there he saw that wasn't the case," Gholston said. "Those perceptions kind of determine the outcome, and it's sad to say."

The outcome on the field was that Gholston — a tackling machine at Ohio State — had zero sacks and only 42 combined tackles in 45 games with Gang Green. But Gholston blames his lack of production on the Jets' lack of patience and their inconsistent approach towards his talents.

"Teams are always looking for talent, and to say I don't have talent is a far stretch," Gholston said. "It's all about getting a fair shot and time in the system. With the Jets, it was constant position change and coaching change. There was no stability. I never really had that with the Jets."

Gholston believes that part of the reason he never got a fair shake in New York was because Ryan played favorites with the players he brought over from Baltimore such as Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard.

"Whenever you have a new coach, you hope everything's fair," Gholston said. "But obviously, he was in Baltimore for a number of years and has a passion for those guys."

Gholston put his dislike of Ryan most bluntly when he said, "I heard how he was perceiving me before the [2008] draft, before he knew me, and I was the same way — I wasn't hoping for him to be [my] first coach of the Jets when I was there, either."

True diehard sports fans hate to hear it, but professional sports are all about business. And for a business, it's all about following the money.

Recently, the NHL has been a particularly good example of a league in which teams up and move for greener pastures — see: the Atlanta Thrashers closing up shop and moving north to Winnipeg.

While it remains to be seen if the new Winnipeg Jets will fare better than the old ones, The Business Journals have run the numbers to see what other major cities could sustain a franchise, since certain ailing clubs — the Phoenix Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets and even the New York Islanders — might be looking to move in the near future.

The study, featured on The Business Journals' On Numbers blog, showed that 22 markets have the necessary income bases to support an NHL team. Among the prominent candidates are Las Vegas, Houston, Seattle and Orlando.

According to an SI.com report, the Angels have reached an contract agreement with star pitcher Jered Weaver, securing the 28-year-old to a five-year extension worth $85 million.

Weaver is a strong candidate for this year's AL Cy Young Award, boasting a 14-6 record and a sparkling 2.10 ERA. In six seasons with the Angels, he has posted a solid 78-45 career record to go along with a 3.30 ERA.

With Brett Favre retired (for now), Peyton Manning leads all active NFL quarterbacks with 227 consecutive starts. But that streak — which is even more notable because it is the longest of all-time to start a career –is in jeopardy of coming to an end this season.

According to Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, there is a chance that Manning will start the season on the sidelines for the first time in his career because of neck surgery that he had this offseason.

On Saturday, Irsay tweeted: "we got 2 b prepared 4 early season possibility without him."

Irsay seemed to suggest that the Colts would pursue veteran options, and even ruled out taking Ohio State product Terrelle Pryor in Monday's NFL supplemental draft, when he tweeted on Saturday: "Not taking Pryor…what VET QB would u vote 4 to sign that's out there? If sum1 has 2 hold the fort early season, who u going with?"

While the Twitter-verse surely responded with many names for Irsay, it seems the Colts owner already has his sights (jokingly or not) set on a certain gray-bearded veteran who happens to reside in Hattiesburg, Miss. (hint: his name rhymes with Frett Bavre)

On Sunday, Irsay tweeted, "Brad,I'm in Hattiesburg…is it right or left at the Firechief?"

It's not much of a stretch to assume the "Brad" that Irsay is referring to is former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress, who famously drove down to Brett Favre's home to get the quarterback to return for another season last year.

Now, it's probably unlikely that Favre will be under center for the Colts at any point this season, but the team certainly has a bit of a problem on its hands if Manning is unable to get back onto the field any time soon.

If Manning is unable to go, Irsay and the Colts are left with the options of inexperienced Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky.

Manning went under the knife back in May to repair nerve damage in his neck. He has not practiced yet and is still on the Colts' physically unable to perform list.

"Bottom line, we truly do not know when he will be ready," Colts president Bill Polian told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen. "Once the nerves regenerate properly, he'll be ready. When that happens, he'll be ready to ramp up immediately. It's impossible to predict."

Manning said that he's made progress but that he still has work to do in order to be ready.

With his recent tweets, Irsay seems to be making light of the Colts' QB situation for now. But come September, it's a distinct possibility that someone other than No. 18 will be lining up under center, which might not be a laughable situation for long.

While the NFL is now cured, the NBA is still bedridden and Spain's top soccer division, La Liga, looks as if they are about to succumb to a work stoppage of its own.

According to RumorsandRants.com, the players of Spain's premier soccer league are seeking a new collective bargaining agreement. Luis Rubiales, the head of the player's union, announced the players' decision to strike at a news conference held on Thursday.

"I can assure you that we won't play until a new agreement is reached," Spanish national goalkeeper, and Real Madrid star, Iker Casillas said, according to Spanish newspaper, AS, via RumorsandRants.com.

The opening of the La Liga season is set for Aug. 21, leaving the owners and the players little time to reach a new agreement before players begin sitting out games.

Jerricho Cotchery did not see himself as a No. 3 receiver. At age 29, he knew there was more in the tank and so he asked to be released by the New York Jets in order to shop himself around the league.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cotchery has now found a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers — the very team that ended Cotchery and the Jets' Super Bowl hopes last season in the AFC Championship game.

The former NC State standout's contract is a one-year deal.

Pittsburgh already has its first and second receiver options established, with the steady Hines Ward and the dynamic Mike Wallace. So oddly enough, according to ESPN.com's James Walker, Cotchery will most likely be competing for the third receiver spot – the very position he decided to opt out of with the Jets.

Cotchery had an injury-plagued season in 2010, resulting in the worst numbers of his career as a starter — he totaled 41 receptions for 433 yards and two touchdowns. However, prior to last season, Cotchery tallied at least 800 yards in four straight seasons, with his best year coming in 2007, when he caught 82 passes for 1,130 yards.

Nearly two decades have passed since Larry Bird retired, but the legend of Larry Legend just got an interesting, new twist (or, tweet, if you prefer) added to it.

The world-famous bird that flies around the internet at a dizzying 140-character clip is named — that's right, you guessed it — Larry.

Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter and a Boston native, decided to end all of the speculation by confirming on Thursday that the bird in the company's logo is named Larry, after the Celtic great.

With a namesake like that, it's no wonder that the bird is so great at passing along information with both style and efficiency. But if Stone really wanted his company's logo to reflect the NBA legend, maybe adding a killer '80s mustache would do the trick.

Marquis Daniels has spent the past six months working his way down a long and trying road in order to regain his health after a horrifying spinal injury threatened to strip the 6-foot-6 shooting guard of his NBA career.

He still has not fully recovered, but he has regained enough of his strength to start considering mounting a comeback — and he views the Celtics as a legitimate option.

In an interview with Comcast SportsNet New England's Jessica Camerato, Daniels opened up about returning to the place where he sustained his injury — what some doctors once believed was a career-ending injury.

"I definitely would like to be anywhere where a team wants me," he said. "I'm keeping my options open. I still root for the guys on the Celtics. It's a great organization. I talk to Paul [Pierce] and Kevin [Garnett] and [Rajon] Rondo and all those guys. So I'd be open to coming back there as well."

Daniels also revealed that Garnett helped him through the uncertainty of the injury as he lay motionless on the TD Garden floor on Feb. 6.

"I just remember I kept hearing Kevin telling me, 'You're gonna be alright. You're gonna be alright,'" he told CSNNE. "I was like, 'I can't move.' He said, 'What do you mean?' He kept telling me I was gonna be alright. I think that helped me out a lot, just hearing his voice telling me I was going to be alright. I stayed calm, I didn't panic."

In two seasons off the bench with the C's, Daniels averaged 5.5 points per game and he was also considered to be a top-notch defender.

It's the nation's top athletic fundraising event, so it's no wonder the likes of Senator John Kerry and Lance Armstrong came out to support the annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge.

Since 2007, the bike-a-thon, presented by the Boston Red Sox Foundation and New Balance, has donated 100 percent of the money raised by riders to help fund the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since the fundraiser began in 1980, it has raised an impressive $303 million.

The bike ride ran through 46 towns across Massachusetts, consisting of various routes designed for different skill levels. For this year's event, riders were asked to raise anywhere from $500 to $4,200 depending on which route they chose to ride.

Watch the video above to see the cyclists in action and to hear from Senator Kerry and NESN's Jack Edwards.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions have announced they have signed running backs Mike Bell and Jerome Harrison.

After losing second-round draft pick Mikel Leshoure to a season-ending Achilles tendon injury, the Lions scrambled to find a second back to pair up with Jahvid Best. They found their answer — or, rather, answers — in Bell and Harrison. While Harrison has never been more than a backup in his six years in the league, Bell saw significant time with the New Orleans Saints in 2009. The sixth-year back out of Arizona rushed for 654 yards and scored five touchdowns during the Saints Super Bowl-winning season.

Meanwhile, according to the Sun Sentinel, Williams had a few words to say about the Lions. After signing with the Baltimore Ravens, the running back joined Sid Rosenberg on 560-WQAM on Monday afternoon. During the interview, Williams essentially — intentionally or not — accused Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan of tampering.

"Last year when we played the Lions, Scott Linehan, who was the offensive coordinator here with coach [Nick] Saban, he came up to me after the game, and he said that if you need a home, we'd love to have you on our team."

This is defined as tampering because Williams was under contract with the Dolphins at the time, and NFL teams are not allowed to talk to players under contract with other teams.

While Randy Moss is retired for the time being, there are still plenty of people who feel like he'll eventually return to the gridiron. Add former Pro Bowl quarterback Kurt Warner to that list.

Warner thinks that Moss could return and that when he does, he should do so as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

According to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk, Warner appeared on 620 KTAR's Burns and Gambo on Friday and the former Cardinals quarterback began talking about how well Moss would fit in down in Phoenix.

"I don't think there's any question he could help," Warner said. "I still think there's something in the tank for Randy… He has a great relationship with Larry Fitzgerald. That could be a huge plus coming to this organization."

Warner went on to explain why Moss would be an ideal fit.

"I think a deep threat is something that they need. They need somebody that can stretch the field. As good as Larry is, that's not the player that he is."

The Cardinals have already acquired quarterback Kevin Kolb this offseason in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Warner, meanwhile, knows plenty about how important it is to be able to launch a pass downfield. He did it consistently with wide receivers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce as a member of the St. Louis Rams — part of a team that became referred to as the "Greatest Show on Turf."

Apparently veteran, free-agent defensive linemen come in pairs. Not even a full 24 hours after agreeing to a one-year deal with former New York Jets lineman Shaun Ellis, the Patriots have also reportedly reached an agreement with former Washington Redskins defensive end Andre Carter.

The 10-year veteran out of Cal tweeted on Sunday night, "I am proud to announce that I will be playing for the New England Patriots for the 2011 season."

If Carter's tweet proves accurate, this will be just the latest move in the Patriots' massive offseason defensive overhaul — a reshaping that has included the release of mainstays Ty Warren and Tully Banta-Cain and the signings of Albert Haynesworth and Ellis.

According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, the Patriots have not confirmed the deal, but a source has indicated that a deal has been reached between the organization and Carter.

Carter started his career with the San Francisco 49ers before moving on to the Redskins, for whom he has played the past five seasons. His best year with the 'Skins was in 2009, when he racked up 62 tackles and 11 sacks.

Usually, when NBA players attempt to make it big in the music industry, they just wind up embarrassing themselves — look no further than Shaquille O'Neal's days as a rapper.

But former Boston Celtics forward Walter McCarty — or known to many C's fans as simply, "Waltah" — is eschewing the typical angry, rant rap route in favor of a softer, more sensual path.

While the 6-foot-10 forward never made a huge splash in the NBA — his best season came with the C's in 1997-98 when he averaged 9.6 points per game — he could very well make it big on some R&B radio stations with his brand of "date" music.

McCarty will perform live on August 28 at the Lexington Opera House in Lexington, Ky.

Listen to the recording below to hear the dulcet tones of the big man's soulful voice in his song, "Moment For Love."

Close your eyes while you listen, and it's pretty easy to imagine the requisite — and cheesy — candles flickering all around McCarty as he sings to a loved one.

The New York Jets have spent a ton of cash acquiring and re-signing major talents like Santonio Holmes and Antonio Cromartie, while also signing Plaxico Burress. Combined, that trio has played 27 games for Gang Green, but they were able to sign contracts worth $50, $32 and $3 million, respectively.

That’s a lot of green spent on players that are relatively, well, green to the franchise.

But how much have the Jets spent on two franchise players in wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery and defensive end Shaun Ellis?

Zero dollars.

Combined, the two (both drafted by the Jets) have played in 273 games for New York, but Ellis has yet to get a new deal, and according to ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini, Cotchery was released Thursday to reportedly make room for veteran wideout Derrick Mason, who is familiar with head coach Rex Ryan after their time together with the Baltimore Ravens.

While Cotchery has moved on, nothing is official yet in regards to Ellis.

The Jets offered the 11-year veteran a one-year, $910,000 contract (the league’s veteran minimum), Cimini reported on Wednesday.

Now, according to a tweet by ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss, Ellis worked out with the Patriots on Thursday.

In an interesting little twist, the Jets were only able to draft Ellis back in 2000 because they traded the first-round pick that they received from the Patriots after Bill Belichick famously resigned as head coach of the Jets, by writing “I resign as HC of the NYJ,” and then proceeded to take the job with the Pats.
