Did you forget to get your father-in-law a Hanukkah gift? Still searching for the perfect Christmas present for your brother? For any sports fan in your life, these ten gift ideas are sure to be a hit.

And you know the saying “better to give than to receive”? Well, this phrase holds true for many of these gifts, as you can enjoy most of these gifts for yourself along with the recepient.

In no particular order, here are the holiday suggestions:

1. Bill Simmons’ Book of Basketball
The Sports Guy delivers a humorous, comprehensive look at basketball, and now the book is available in paperback so you can save a few bucks.

2. P90X Training Program
Seems a bit steep to pay over $100 for a training program when a winter gym membership might cost less. But the P90X workout is more than something you can find in a magazine. Everyone raves about how well the system works, so for anyone looking to counteract eggnog, this makes a great gift.

3. Fathead
The only thing that should be holding anyone back from slapping a pro athlete on the wall is the $100 price tag, but there’s always some good deals, like the Jermaine O’Neal fathead from the Pacers at the bargain price of $30. Ironic and awesome.

4. NFL Apparel for Women
The new line of clothing by the NFL featured Rex Ryan’s wife as one of the models. Alyssa Milano also models this line. And the clothes will look great for the female football fan in your life.

5. Born to Run
This breakthrough book makes you think twice about lacing up your Nike’s while still providing incredible inspiration to hit the ground running. Even if this gift recepient doesn’t care for athletics all that much, this book will change their mind.

6. Ken Burns’ Baseball: The Tenth Inning
The latest installment in the epic series continues, covering the modern era. Of course, the whole 10-part series would make the ultimate gift, but consider this installment a budget item.

7. Iron Gym
Your son won’t make the majors with a scrawny back. This convenient workout bar gives you the resources to exercise at home efficiently.

8. Comfy Feet Slippers
Slippers are the ideal winter gift. Celtics slippers are the ideal New England winter gift.

9. Grant Hill’s Something All Our Own
At long last, the marriage of basketball and art. Grant Hill shows his creative side by compiling a book of African art. This gift works for Grant Hill lovers or for someone looking to add a conversational coffee table book.

10. Mars Made Pool Table
This last gift requires Carl Crawford money. These high-end pool tables will dent your wallets with the $30,000-$40,000 price tag, but they are completely customizable and the prototypes look ridiculously cool.

Happy Holidays!

If chicken soup soothes the soul, can Mexican food help cut down on interceptions?

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has struggled recently, throwing 11 picks in his last seven games after not throwing any in his first five games this season. In an attempt to remedy the turnover problem, Rex Ryan met with Sanchez over some tacos to discuss football.

“This isn’t a huge thing. It’s a lunch date so I can eat Mexican food with him,” Ryan joked to Newsday.

But the lunch sessions could prove to be helpful for the sophomore.

Last season, Ryan instituted a color-coded system when Sanchez was struggling, and the quarterback responded by cutting down on turnovers.

This season, Ryan wants to pass on his knowledge of the Jets upcoming opponents — the Dolphins and Steelers. Ryan previously coached with Dolphins defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and faced Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau often during Ryan’s days with the Ravens, so the Jets coach has some insight to share.

“It was more of a big-picture conversation regarding schemes and what they like to do,” Sanchez said after the lunch meeting. “It’s always helpful talking football with Rex because you spend so much time in offensive meetings and discussing our approach that it’s good to get a defensive perspective. It really enhances your overall football knowledge. I think it was awesome that he took the time to do it.”

The Jets take on the Dolphins Sunday at the Meadowlands, where Ryan and Sanchez hope to get back on track after last week’s blowout loss to the Patriots.

When push comes to shove, Andre Miller thinks the NBA has a soft spot for young players.

The 34-year-old Blazers point guard is not denying that he intentionally shoved Clippers rookie Blake Griffin on Sunday, but he thinks his suspension doesn't fit the crime and it "shows how soft the league is," The Oregonian reports.

Miller argued that Griffin hit him twice earlier in the game without drawing a foul, and Miller simply wanted a little revenge. Indeed, a YouTube video does show that Griffin pushed Miller twice, but Miller delivered a much bigger blow.

The refs didn't call a foul during the game, but a subsequent review by the league led to Miller’s one-game suspension and a flagrant 2 foul. As a result, Miller's streak of most games played by an active player ended at 632.

"I took two shots," Miller told The Oregonian. "I took two shots and I gave a shot. So I told the ref out there, 'We can call that even now.' He didn’t make the call and he was looking right at it. So I get suspended for that? I'll take a flagrant foul. But a suspension? It wasn't justified at all."

Miller had more to get off his chest.

"There was no consideration for what I’ve accomplished in this league," he added. "[There is] favoritism toward the young players. I delivered a shot. And when I delivered it, I was hoping the ref would call a flagrant foul or a foul. They ignored what he did two times. Two times. And I let it pass. The referee didn’t say nothing."

Miller thinks the league has made a change for the worse, as young superstars seem to have more power than ever before.

"If I was a dirty player that was looking to go out and hurt somebody, then I could understand. 'Oh, this guy has a reputation for taking out guys,'" Miller said. "Back in the day, players like John Stockton — who was a tough-minded player and, actually, some players thought he was dirty — never got suspended for anything. The league has changed. They make the rules, they favor the young guys now, and that’s how it is."

After missing Tuesday's game against Phoenix due to the suspension, Miller restarted his streak at one against the Magic on Thursday night. Miller went off for 22 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. His next game comes when the Trail Blazers take on the Suns again Friday night.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. punches people for a living, but poking a security guard could land him in legal trouble.

Mayweather's lawyer faced a Las Vegas judge Wednesday on a misdemeanor battery charge, according to The Associated Press. Shayne Smith, a homeowner association guard, alleges that Mayweather repeatedly jabbed his finger into Smith’s cheek after the guard wrote Mayweather two parking tickets.

Police reports allege that Mayweather confronted Smith in the street, blocking the guard from leaving a cul-de-sac as well as removing the parking ticket and putting it on Smith’s patrol car. Smith reportedly had redness and discoloration under his left eye from the scuffle.

In addition to the poking charge, Mayweather also faces a separate felony coercion, grand larceny and robbery charges stemming from an altercation with the mother of his children. Mayweather will go to court for these charges on Jan. 24.

If convicted for the misdemeanor battery charge, Mayweather could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Mike Tyson wouldn't make the list of athletes with the greatest character, but when it comes strictly to boxing, Tyson is one of the all-time greats, worthy of a top-10 ranking.

His selection Tuesday to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum confirms Tyson's greatness, and his record reveals that he's truly elite.

From the start of his professional career, Tyson demonstrated his brute strength and ferocity, knocking out his first 19 opponents and compiling a 37-0 record. During that period, Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champ at 20 years, 4 months, and also became the first heavyweight to hold the WBA, WBC and IBF belts at the same time.

Of those 37 victories, an astonishing 17 came in the first round. No doubt about it, Tyson was dominant during his early career.

Tyson's first loss came against James "Buster" Douglas in a major upset in which Tyson seemed out of shape, but he responded by defeating Donovan Ruddock twice, another menacing fighter whom other top heavyweights would not fight at the time.

However, Tyson's second defeat of Ruddock in June 1991 was his last fight before a three-year prison term due to a rape conviction.

After the time spent behind bars, Tyson never regained top form. He won his first four bouts after jail, but in 1996 he fell to Evander Holyfield, and a year later lost by disqualification due to his infamous biting of Holyfield's ear.

From 1995-2005, Tyson went just 9-5, an inglorious ending to an incredible start to his career. But even though he failed to climb back to the top after his hiatus, he should still be judged based on his overall impressive resume.

Michael Jordan is still referred to as the greatest basketball player even though he didn't look spectacular when he played for the Wizards, and Brett Favre will still go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks even though he's falling off this season. Similarly, Tyson's 41-1 pre-prison record should cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of all time.

His personal troubles seem to tarnish his legacy, but in the ring, Tyson's accomplishments speak volumes. He missed significant time during the prime of his career but still managed to challenge Holyfield and Lennox Lewis late in his career.

Even Muhammad Ali and George Foreman struggled down the stretch of their careers, so Tyson's downswing is far from unprecedented.

Tyson deservedly made the Boxing Hall of Fame, and he deserves to be recognized as one of the 10 best fighters to ever live.

On Dec. 8, 1980, one of the greatest musicians of all-time, John Lennon, was shot and killed outside of his New York City apartment.

The sad news was delivered by Howard Cosell to a Monday Night Football audience watching the Patriots play the Dolphins in Miami.

Lennon and the Beatles have had happier connections to sports, such as their legendary concert at Shea Stadium and meeting with Muhammad Ali.

Check out the video above, of Cosell announcing Lennon’s death, and even though sports and YouTube videos are sometimes portrayed as mere time-killers, remember Lennon’s saying: “Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted.”

Below is a transcript of how the news broke to the sporting world.

“We have to say it. Remember, this is just a football game. No matter who wins or loses. An unspeakable tragedy confirmed to us by ABC News in New York City. John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the West Side of New York City, the most famous, perhaps of all of the Beatles, shot twice in the back, rushed to Roosevelt Hospital, dead on arrival. Hard to go back to the game after that news flash, which in duty bound, we had to take.”

Free-agent first basemen have been hot topic at the 2010 winter meetings, and although the Chicago White Sox nearly lost their man, the team retained its star slugger, Paul Konerko.

Konerko agreed Wednesday to a three-year, $37.5 million contract on Wednesday. He's set to earn $12 million in the first two seasons, with $13.5 million to be paid out until 2020, including $6.5 million in 2013.

The 34-year-old first baseman had one of the best years of his career in 2010, hitting .312 with 39 home runs and 111 RBIs, finishing fifth in AL MVP voting. Konerko will have additional lineup help this season, as the White Sox also signed Adam Dunn.

Konerko declined arbitration offered by the White Sox earlier this offseason, and negotiations reportedly came to a standstill Tuesday, but the deal eventually went through.

Although players like Arian Foster and Dwayne Bowe are having tremendous years, the race will most likely come down to Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers and Michael Vick. Here are the basic cases for each of these QBs.

1. Tom Brady
Brady has led the Patriots to a 9-2 record, tied for best in the NFL. In addition to his leadership, Brady has put up some pretty strong numbers. He's tied for the most touchdowns in the NFL with 23 and has only thrown four interceptions. He also leads the league with the best QB rating of 105.8.

2. Phillip Rivers
Rivers has put up gaudy numbers all season long. He's second in the league in passing yards and could still break Dan Marino's single-season record of 5,084 yards if he gets back on track against Oakland this weekend. Rivers has also tossed 23 TDs, he's thrown for 8.94 yards per attempt and has led the Chargers back into playoff contention with four straight wins.

3. Michael Vick
Arguably no player has been more exciting than Vick this season. He's made plays with his arm and his legs in a combo unlike anyone else in the NFL. He has the best touchdown to interception ratio in the league, throwing for 15 scores and only two picks, while chipping in six rushing TDs. Vick has injected energy into the offense while settling in as a more accurate passer than he's ever been in his career, with a 63.8 percent completion rate and 8.4 yards per attempt.

Clearly all three quarterbacks are having outstanding seasons, but like every superhero, each has his own weakness.

Vick has missed three games so far and played only partially in two others. Despite his consistent performances, his numbers don't pop out any more than the other guys, so it's hard to make a case for someone who plays less than a full season. Vick can only win if he absolutely dominates the last four weeks of the season. He should, however, be a shoo-in to win Comeback Player of the Year.

Rivers has thrown nine picks this season and his team has the worst record of these contenders. Even though the Chargers are righting the ship, their early struggles could hurt Rivers' chances. This is where the popularity contest comes in.

Brady has had stretches where he can't connect with receivers, posting a 58.3 percent completion rate in the first four games after Moss left. He also ranks just 12th in the NFL in passing yards. And even though Randy Moss is gone, Welker is still one of the best receivers in the game, and Deion Branch, Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski are all legitimate targets.

But no one has had to do more with less than Rivers. He's been rock solid all year, despite all the losses, special teams woes, departure of LaDanian Tomlinson, holdout of Vincent Jackson and injuries to Antonio Gates, Malcolm Floyd and Ryan Matthews. Plus, the Chargers' line doesn't compare to the Patriots, as Rivers has been sacked 25 times compared to Brady's 13, even though Rivers has one of the quickest releases of any QB.

At the season's end, Rivers looks like he'll be atop the NFL in nearly every passing category despite his supporting cast. But because the MVP race heavily favors winning teams, Brady has the advantage. Plus, Brady's reputation should go a long way in voters' minds.

Make no mistake about it, Brady deserves consideration, but his season so far falls just short of what Rivers has been able to accomplish. If the Chargers continue to win and the Patriots fall to the Jets making them a wild-card team, then Rivers could become MVP.

But the way it looks right now, Brady will probably be collecting his second MVP trophy.

Who do you think deserves to be the MVP? Share your thoughts below.

Marcus Jordan is beginning to make a name for himself on the basketball court without his father's help.

The son of Michael Jordan, Marcus is emerging as a star sophomore guard at the University of Center of Florida. His Knights made a huge push onto the national scene with an upset win over the University of Florida on Monday.

Jordan played stellar defense and totaled 18 points, helping UCF improve to 6-0, while 18th-ranked Florida fell to 5-2.

"It was definitely a tournament atmosphere tonight," Jordan told the Orlando Sentinel. "We definitely wanted to create something so people start talking about us. We're trying to do something special here at UCF."

Through six games, Jordan has averaged 17 points, tops on the team.

With the way Jordan is playing, he might just start to be known as Marcus, rather than MJ's son.

With the Cardinals in the midst of an embarrassing loss to the 49ers on Monday night, Anderson cracked a smile and chuckled with guard Deuce Lutui. Big deal.

Anderson has struggled on the field, but a little laugh on the sidelines doesn’t mean he is slacking off. Teammates and coaches have praised Anderson for his work ethic in the past, so since there’s no history of character issues, there’s no evidence that he doesn’t care about winning.

In fact, his emotional response during his news conference shows that he really does care. Clearly, he had a lot of pent-up emotion that flooded out at the reporter. But if he’s the type of guy who expresses his anger after the game rather than on the sideline, then so be it.

Some coaches are fiery, some coaches are gentle. Some players play angry, some players have fun. Who’s to say what’s right or wrong? Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden both won Super Bowls with opposite approaches. Hines Ward smiles while catching a ball, Andre Johnson punches people.

Sports are emotional, and no emotion is either right or wrong. As long as the athlete tries his best, he shouldn’t have to act the way the public wants him to. Even during a loss.

What was Anderson supposed to do, sulk?

If someone has a long, hard day at the office, is he not allowed to still smile? Anderson should not be held to a different standard just because everyone watches him do his job. With Anderson on a sinking Cardinals team, he should be allowed to make the best of the situation, just like a normal worker might do at his or her job during difficult times for the company.

An athlete’s demeanor does not matter. It is the result on the field. Be upset with Anderson for playing poorly, but don’t be upset with him for acting like a normal human being.

Do you think it’s OK to laugh during a loss? Share your thoughts below.

Chad Ochocinco is one of the most prominent Twitter users, and his micro-blogging notoriety may have come back to bite him.

According to Ochocinco, his Twitter page was hacked on Tuesday evening when someone posted the following message: "OCNNBreakingNews Due to the many rule changes there has also been a name change, NFL no longer, NFFL = National Flag Football League."

Somewhat suspiciously, the Bengals' wide receiver tweeted shortly after that someone hacked his account, and with a tounge-in-cheek response he tried to alert Roger Goodell so as to avoid a fine.

"Dad my account was hacked for a matter of 5 minutes while i was cooking," the tweet to Goddell read, "just giving you a heads up,u raised me better than that."

So did someone really break into his Twitter, or did the receiver just want to have a little fun?

Either way, Ochocinco's tweet to Goodell could possibly be the funniest representation of the players' opinion that the commissioner is too strict.

As if Monday night’s Patriots-Jets showdown won’t have enough significance, New England will honor former linebacker Tedy Bruschi during a special halftime ceremony.

One of the greatest Patriots of all time, Bruschi led the team to three Super Bowl victories, and he is the third Patriot to be honored from that era, as Ted Johnson and Troy Brown have had halftime ceremonies of their own.

During his career, Bruschi played in 189 regular-season games, the most of any linebacker in Patriots history. He retired after the 2009 season, and during his 13 years in the league, he led the Pats to 11 winning seasons and amassed over 1000 tackles.

Bruschi has also established himself off the field. He serves as a respected analyst for ESPN, and after suffering from a stroke in 2005, he has immersed himself in charity work. His foundation, “Tedy’s Team” has raised hundreds of thousands dollars for stroke research.

Monday’s game will start at 8:30 p.m. as the Patriots and Jets battle for AFC East supremacy.

Chad Ochocinco has no problem baring his soul to the public, and the receiver is now baring his body for PETA.

Like many celebrities, Ochocinco joined in the fight against fur by posing naked in a PETA ad with a strategically placed football.

The outspoken receiver is no stranger to the spotlight — he's had his own reality dating show The Ultimate Catch, grooved on Dancing With the Stars and sought guidance from Jesse Jackson. He's even raced a horse for charity. Now, Ochocinco wants to draw attention to the harsh treatment of animals killed for their fur.

“To tell you the truth, when I was younger growing up, I thought it was all fake — they didn’t really kill animals," Ochocinco told PETA.

The receiver is passionate about helping the critters killed for their skin — such as foxes, minks, rabbits, and even dogs and cats. Many of these animals are brutally killed by bludgeoning or electrocution.

Fair? Yes.

No matter the record, the division winner deserves a playoff spot. The way NFL scheduling works, every team in a division plays 14 out of 16 common opponents. In the NFC West, each team plays each other twice, and this season, each team plays all teams in the NFC South and AFC West. This common scheduling provides the most accurate way to determine the best team in the division.

However, there's less of a determinant for comparing teams across divisions. For argument's sake, suppose the NFC South and AFC West were stacked top to bottom. Each team in the NFC West would face eight tough opponents, setting them up for more losses. And if the NFC West teams split wins in divisional games, then a team with a losing record could emerge as the division winner.

The Packers, who might be left out of the playoffs, play the NFC East and AFC East. Now suppose these are easy opponents. The Packers might collect seven wins, whereas say the Seahawks lose seven games against their tougher opponents (in example world). So if the Packers went on to a 9-7 season while the Seahawks went 7-9, how is it fair that the Packers qualify with such an incomparable schedule?

Obviously, this example doesn't apply very well to this season. In fact, the roles are reversed. How is it fair that the Packers might be left out when they have a much tougher schedule and have a better record than any NFC West team? But the point is that the strength of schedule varies from year to year.
In 2008, the Chargers won the AFC West at 8-8, while the Patriots missed the playoffs at 11-5. But the Patriots went 4-0 against a weak NFC West while the Chargers went 1-3 against a tough NFC South where the worst team was the 8-8 Saints.

You can try to argue that the Patriots were better than the Chargers based on their overall record, or you can argue that the Chargers were better because of the schedule and the fact that the Chargers beat the Patriots during the regular season.

But by granting division winners a playoff spot, there's no need to compare apples to oranges.

Why have the divisions in the first place if they don't count for anything? If the teams with the best records should make the playoffs, then there should just be random scheduling, or else the current scheduling system becomes pointless.

Instead, the divisions keep the league balanced. Yes, the Packers and Bucs look better than any NFC West team this season, but you can't make that comparison every year, as the 2008 Chargers showed. And while the 8-8 Chargers won a playoff game that season, the 9-7 Cardinals advanced to the Super Bowl, proving that regular-season records are only one indicator of success.

Do you think the division winner should automatically make the playoffs? Share your thoughts below.

The ailing Giants are requesting the help of former first-round pick Michael Clayton to steady the ship.

In just two weeks, the Giants went from kings of the NFC to a team in despair. Not only have the Giants lost their last two games, the football gods have also added injury to insult.

Top receivers Steve Smith (pectoral) and Hakeem Nicks (leg) will be out for a couple weeks as the Giants try to make a playoff push. Plus, wideouts Ramses Barden and Victor Cruz are on injured reserve, leaving the Giants with just Mario Manningham and Derek Hagan as experienced receivers.

Enter Michael Clayton.

The ex-Tampa Bay Buccaneer enjoyed a fantastic rookie year in 2004, racking up nearly 1200 yards on 80 catches. Since then, the receiver has struggled to produce. The Bucs cut Clayton in September and he signed with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL on Oct. 25. During his short stint in the UFL, Clayton grabbed five passes for 38 yards.

While Clayton may seem like just a fill-in for the Giants, he could prove to be a useful piece. At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Clayton is a hard worker who excelled on special teams when he saw less snaps on offense in Tampa. With his size and work ethic, Clayton will make a nice target for Eli Manning and should see a jump in his numbers in the new environment.

The Giants have yet to officially announce the move as they'll have to make space on the roster. Assuming the deal goes through, however, Clayton could get his first chance in action against the Jaguars on Sunday.
