Lackey is 5-5 with a 7.02 ERA and has won his last three straight starts. In his last outing, he went eight innings and allowed four earned runs on eight hits in Boston's 10-4 win over Milwaukee. Jason Bartlett, who faced Lackey often last season as a Tampa Bay Ray, has the most experience (25 at-bats) against him. He owns a .320 batting average and of his eight hits, three have been triples. Orlando Hudson is 6-for-23 (.261) against Lackey while Jorge Cantu is just 1-for-10 with four strikeouts.

Toeing the rubber for the Padres is Richard, who is 2-9 with a 4.35 ERA. Although he hasn't won since May 16, Richard has strung together some strong outings since, having allowed more than three earned runs just once (five earned in his last outing) since the last win. Mike Cameron (2-for-6, homer, double) and Marco Scutaro (2-for-4, homer) have had the most experience against the lefty, among Red Sox batsmen.

Carl Crawford is a career 6-for-12 with a double and two triples against the third-year slinger while J.D. Drew (1-for-1, double) and Dustin Pedroia (1-for-1) both have a hit apiece. Marco Scutaro has two hits in four at-bats against Tillman in his career but the shortstop is still battling a left oblique strain and will miss Monday's affair Fenway Park.

Leadoff hitter Jacoby Ellsbury has at least one hit in three straight while Kevin Youkilis is riding a four-game hitting streak.

Taking the bump for the Sox is John Lackey, who has had tremendous success against his former club. The righty has compiled a 2.45 ERA while winning all four of his starts against the Halos. Lackey struggled in day games last year, however, going 2-5 with a 5.77 ERA compared to a 12-6 record and a 3.89 ERA at night.

Getting the much-deserved day off on Thursday (although after Wednesday night's marathon contest, who doesn't deserve a day off?) is Dustin Pedroia, who has played in all 30 games so far this season. Marco Scutaro will fill in for him at second base while Carl Crawford, who has been batting in the lower-third portion of the Sox' lineup for the majority of the season, will bat second.

Joel Pineiro takes the hill for the Angels in what will be his second start after opening the season on the disabled list with shoulder tightness. In his first outing of the season on Saturday, the former Sox pitcher gave up one run and four hits over seven innings, but didn't get the decision as the Angels lost to the Rays 2-1 in 10 innings.

Robert Andino, batting ninth and starting at shortstop, leads the O's with a .310 batting average while Roberts leads the team with 15 RBIs.

For the Red Sox, Jed Lowrie is back in the starting lineup after getting a day off in the series finale on Sunday afternoon in Anaheim.

Jacoby Ellsbury started to show signs of breaking out on the West Coast, and he was rewarded with a spot atop the Boston order. He's back in the leadoff spot on Tuesday night in Baltimore where he and the rest of the Red Sox get their first look at Britton.

Jason Varitek will be behind the plate catching Buchholz.
