The Bruins’ defense played a big role in their 5-2 win on Sunday over the New York Rangers. Torey Krug and Johnny Boychuck each netted goals, while Matt Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton were both credited with assists.

Though they may be young, Krug, Bartkowski and Hamilton have proved themselves worthy of head coach Claude Julien‘s confidence moving forward in the series. Julien said he has encouraged the young players to continue doing the things they know they do well in order to continue making an impact.

The Bruins are heading back to Boston to battle it out against the Maple Leafs in Game 7. It really didn’t need to come to that, but the Bruins’ inconsistent play has them with their backs against the wall in a must-win situation on Monday night.

The task will be made even more difficult because of the fact that the Bruins will spend Sunday night in Toronto due to an airplane malfunction and travel to Boston the morning of the game. Head coach Claude Julien told NESN’s Naoko Funayama after the loss that getting back to Boston and getting some rest as soon as possible was a top priority.

Hear what else Julien had to say after the game in the video above.

Claude Julien summed up the Bruins’ Game 2 loss to the Maple Leafs as “one of those games,” and it’s hard not to agree with him after the final horn.

Boston had several good chances against Toronto but failed to capitalize, while the Maple Leafs took advantage of some of the Bruins’ mistakes en route to a 4-2 victory. While speaking with NESN’s Naoko Funayama after the game, Julien stressed the need to turn the next page while pointing out that it is a seven-game series that will determine a winner.

Check out the video above for more postgame platitudes from the Bruins coach.

The Bruins were clearly the better team when they routed the Maple Leafs 4-1 in Game 1 on Wednesday, but playoff rounds are not won in one night.

With this first-round series shaping up to be a physical one, Claude Julien‘s squad is focused on keeping a balance heading into Game 2 — taking the positives from Wednesday’s dominant performance but being sure to keep the win in perspective. The Bruins certainly don’t expect Toronto to lay down after one setback, and they plan on bringing the same intensity each night as the series progresses.

To get a glimpse into the Bruins’ mindsets leading up to Game 2, check out the video above.

A Bruins team that limped into the playoffs found exactly what it needed in the first game of the second season, thoroughly dominating the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 4-1 win.

The Leafs got on the board first with a power-play goal less than two minutes in, but it was all Boston from there on out. Not only did they dominate on the offensive end, finishing with a 40-20 edge in shots, the Bruins shoved around a Toronto squad that has become much more physical than in years past. That chippiness spilled over past the final whistle, so expect to see some more hard hitting when these teams take the ice for Game 2 on Saturday.

To see postgame reactions from both locker rooms, check out the video above.

Many Bruins fans forget, but the team was without Nathan Horton during last season’s first-round series loss to Washington. In fact, the winger has not seen the ice in the playoffs since Game 3 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, when he was famously cheap-shotted by Vancouver’s Aaron Rome.

Horton missed the final 36 games of 2011-12 and the entire postseason with a concussion, and he sat the final the final five games of this season after being injured in a fight with Pittsburgh’s Jarome Iginla. He will be back in action Wednesday night, though, as he’ll skate in his usual spot on the first line alongside Milan Lucic and David Krejci when the Bruins open their first-round series against the Maple Leafs.

Check out what Horton and his teammates had to say before Wednesday’s playoff opener in the video above.

The Bruins gave up another third period lead on Saturday night against the Capitals, dropping the match 3-2.

But the loss wasn’t completely detrimental to the B’s place in the Northeast standings. They take on the Ottawa Sentaors Sunday night in their final game of the regular season, and in a number of scenarios, the Bruins could still clinch first place in the division.

Even in the loss, head coach Claude Julien saw areas of improvement within his team that he was pleased with.

Check out what Julien had to say after the game in the video above.

After a positive showing in Thursday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins are looking for consistency Saturday night against the Capitals.

With the No. 2 seed and the division title on the line, the B’s are showing more intensity and physicality on the ice, demonstrated by a gritty 60-minute performance in the 2-0 win over the Lightning. The team will need all the hustle it can muster because no one on the squad gets a “rest game” against the Capitals on Saturday night.

As far as playoff implications go, the Bruins’ final three games do have huge significance. It remains to be determined whether the B’s will beat out Montreal for the Northeast Division crown and the No. 2 seed, but they are guaranteed a spot in the postseason.

Boston would certainly like to gain some momentum heading into the playoffs, though, as the team has dropped five of its last six games entering Thursday night. Their next opponent will be the Tampa Bay Lightning, and this is a very different Bolts squad than the one that came within a game of the Stanley Cup Final just two years ago.

With just 40 points on the season, Tampa Bay sits second to last in the Eastern Conference. The Lightning do boast the third-best offense in the league, however, with Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos ranking first and second, respectively, in points.

For a closer look at the tilt between the soon-to-be division foes, check out the video above.

The B’s got their first win in five games, and took part in the annual “Shirts Off Their Backs” tradition after the game. Typically, the players would take off their game jerseys and give them to select season ticketholders, but in light of the week’s events, those ticketholders requested that the jerseys be given to first responders and participants from this year’s Boston Marathon.

Sports returned to Boston on Wednesday, two days after the Boston Marathon bombings that devastated the city.

Civic pride was on full display throughout the Bruins’ matchup with the Sabres at TD Garden, which was preceded by a video tribute to the victims and a rousing rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” with the capacity crowd joining anthem singer Rene Rancourt for the second half of the tune.

The Bruins could not pull out a win over their division rivals, dropping a 3-2 decision in a shootout, but the game provided an uplifting experience for a community that has been through so much pain this week.

To see reactions from both the Bruins players and the fans in attendance, check out the video above.

Bruins Coach Claude Julien has been changing up the lines in practice to see if he can jump start some scoring power.

The changes have given Bruins winger Daniel Paille more time on the ice, and he has welcomed the opportunity. As the B’s struggle to produce on offense, Paille says the team’s focus is coming out tougher and stronger against a struggling Carolina Hurricanes team.

With a playoff berth hanging in the balance, the Bruins need to step on the gas to produce more goals on offense.

Hear what Paille told Naoko Funayama in the video above.

The Bruins’ defensive corps was bolstered Thursday with the return of Adam McQuaid. The excitement over the blueliner’s return was muted, however, as the team will be without top scorer Brad Marchand, who left Monday’s game in New Jersey with a concussion.

Like it has to many NHL teams in this lockout-shortened season, the compressed schedule has taken its toll on the Bruins’ health. McQuaid and Chris Kelly both missed significant time before recently returning to the lineup, and two of the Boston’s best forwards, Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, are currently on the shelf with head injuries.

The B’s addressed these issues prior to Monday night’s game against the surging Islanders. See what they had to say in the video above.

The Bruins struggled on the offensive end over the past week, totaling just five goals in their last three games. Those scoring struggles were nonexistent Monday night.

Head coach Claude Julien shook up his forward lines against the Hurricanes, and the result was a season-high six-goal explosion. Center Gregory Campbell, who normally plays on the team’s fourth line, was moved up to the second in Patrice Bergeron‘s absence, and Campbell responded with a pair of assists and plus-2 rating in Boston’s 6-2 win.

Campbell’s new linemates were on top of their games, as well, as Brad Marchand scored twice and Jaromir Jagr added a pair of helpers.

To hear what made the second unit a scoring force on Monday, check out the video above.
