The cardiac Bruins have done it again.

Daniel Paille‘s late tally capped off a third period comeback to knock off the New York Rangers in front of a stunned Madison Square Garden Crowd. The Bruins are now just one win away from closing the series out and moving on to the Eastern Conference final.

Head coach Claude Julien was proud of the way his team played in Game 3, and is confident they will come out swinging against the Rangers in Game 4. Check out the video above to hear more of what Julien had to say.

It’s never too early to start thinking about football.

The Patriots are three days into their first voluntary workouts of 2013, and one of the biggest storylines has been quarterback Tom Brady‘s chemistry with his receivers. Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd were the team’s two most productive wideouts in 2012, and both have found roster spots on other teams.

The gaps have been filled, though, with the Pats signing Danny Amendola and drafting a number of other receivers. Amendola has already shown some initiative, spending some time in the offseason getting reps in with his new QB.

Rob Gronkowski underwent a successful surgery on his forearm on Monday and he could be ready for training camp in June, but the horizon may not be so sunny for veteran receiver Aaron Hernandez, who could miss playing time in 2013 recovering from shoulder surgery.

Based on the Patriots’ receiving corps, Brady will have a number of options when it comes to the passing game, but who will lead the pack in receptions?

The Bruins are up 2-0 in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Rangers, and they may be up two more players the next time the B’s take the ice in Game 3.

Veteran defenseman Dennis Seidenberg practiced with the team for the first time since injuring himself a week ago during the Bruins’ Game 7 win over the Maple Leafs. Defenseman Wade Redden also practiced with the team for the second time since an injury. The two are still listed as day-to-day, but it’s possible they could be ready to play by game time on Tuesday.

If they are, it would leave head coach Claude Julien with some tough roster decisions since the rookie trio of Matt Bartkowski, Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton has stepped up admirably in the absence of the veterans.

Hear Julien’s take in the video above, or check it out on NESN’s YouTube channel.

Jaromir Jagr is in the longest postseason scoring drought of his career. The Bruins forward hasn’t scored in the last 17 postseason games, which dates all the way back to his time with the Flyers.

Despite not scoring in eight playoff games so far with the Bruins, Jagr is still finding a way to impact the score sheet. Jagr has had four assists this postseason, and head coach Claude Julien said Jagr has been a good addition to the team.

The Bruins have been doing fine without Dennis Seidenberg and Andrew Ference, but that’s not to say Boston’s luck will continue.

Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug‘s play has been “astonishing,” according to DJ Bean of WEEI.com, but getting Seidenberg and Ference back would be a boost for the Bruins if they hope to best the Rangers. At this point, Bean thinks that Bartkowski should be playing over Wade Redden even if the vet is able to come back.

Watch the video above to hear Bean and NESN’s Naoko Funayama preview Game 2 of the Bruins-Rangers series or check it out on NESN’s YouTube channel.

The Bruins were thought to be in big trouble when injury kept Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference and Wade Redden out of Game 1 of Boston’s Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Rangers. Those worries proved unfounded, though, as a trio of rookies filling in on the blue line far exceeded expectations in a 3-2 overtime win.

Now, B’s coach Claude Julien has some decisions to make. There is a chance that all three of the usual defensemen may be healthy enough to suit up for Game 2 on Sunday, which may send Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug back to the land of the healthy scratches.

But even if the team is back to full strength, do the young guns deserve another chance to suit up? All three played well on Thursday, with Krug scoring his first NHL goal, Hamilton added an assist and Bartkowski clocked a career-high 26:42 of ice time.

Assuming everyone is healthy, which of the rookies has made the best case to start over a veteran in Game 2? Voice your opinion in the poll below.

That was certainly the case Thursday night, when a textbook poke check by Zdeno Chara near the Bruins’ blue line in overtime led directly to Brad Marchand‘s game-winning goal. Marchand beating Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist five-hole will be what shows up in the highlight package, but his goal never happens without Chara’s heads-up play in his own zone.

If you score on the New York Rangers, save the puck. It doesn’t happen often.

OK, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the Blueshirts do play a defensive-minded brand of hockey that makes it very difficult to put pucks in the net. John Tortorella‘s squad ranked fourth in goals against during the regular season (2.3 per game) and continued its stingy play against the Capitals in the first round, allowing two goals or fewer in four of the seven games.

Credit for the Rangers’ defensive prowess is shared by goalie Henrik Lundqvist — the 2012 Vezina Trophy winner and a finalist again this year — and a crew of defensemen who aren’t afraid to sacrifice their bodies.

For more on the Bruins’ plan to overcome New York’s dominant D, check out the video above.

The game was nearly out of the Bruins’ hands when they charged back and pulled the rug right out from underneath the Leafs, rallying from a three-goal deficit to win.

Many question whether or not the Bruins have enough stamina to make their way to the Stanley Cup Final, but their next task will be taking on the New York Rangers on Thursday night in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The two teams are pretty evenly matched, and Rangers head coach John Tortorella even said, “Both teams play a pretty similar game as far as straight ahead and just grinding it out.”

The series figures to be a back-and-forth battle between two teams that both value the defensive style of the game and have solid, battle-tested coaches. But which team will emerge victorious?

The Bruins played the role of spoiler on Monday night, rallying from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. B’s winger Milan Lucic was spearheaded that charge.

With a three-goal deficit to overcome, Lucic stepped on the gas and assisted on Nathan Horton‘s goal which trimmed the Leafs’ lead to two. Lucic says he told his teammates in the huddle, “we just need one more, you never know.”

Lucic was an important factor in the win, and truly showed his veteran experience.

Check out the video above to hear how Lucic helped his team rally back for the win.

Of course, everyone remembers the 2002 Snow Bowl. It was the Patriots against the Raiders in the AFC Divisional playoffs, and the phrase “Tuck Rule” became a household one. In 1986, Dave Henderson hit a two-out, two-strike, two-run home run in the ninth inning to give the Red Sox a 6-5 lead in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Angels.

The B’s managed to rally from a 4-1 deficit in the third period of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in sudden-death overtime. But was that the greatest comeback win in Boston sports history?

The Maple Leafs blew a 4-1 lead in the final minutes and the B’s were able to come out on top, in part, thanks to Rask’s strong play in front of the net.

With 11 minutes remaining in the third period Monday night, the Bruins were staring at a three-goal deficit and seemed destined for the golf course. What transpired after that point will be etched in Boston sports lore forever.

Nathan Horton cut the Maple Leafs’ lead to 4-2 with a goal 9:18 into the third, but Toronto still held a comfortable cushion with just three minutes to play. Claude Julien then called Tuukka Rask to the bench, and the Bruins proceeded to score twice in under a minute with the extra attacker, tying the game and setting up Patrice Bergeron‘s game-winner in overtime.

To see Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley‘s breakdown of the game, and to hear what Zdeno Chara had to say in the locker room, check out the video above.

The Bruins are heading back to Boston to battle it out against the Maple Leafs in Game 7. It really didn’t need to come to that, but the Bruins’ inconsistent play has them with their backs against the wall in a must-win situation on Monday night.

The task will be made even more difficult because of the fact that the Bruins will spend Sunday night in Toronto due to an airplane malfunction and travel to Boston the morning of the game. Head coach Claude Julien told NESN’s Naoko Funayama after the loss that getting back to Boston and getting some rest as soon as possible was a top priority.

Hear what else Julien had to say after the game in the video above.

Despite their Game 5 loss, the Bruins are still in the driver’s seat in their first-round playoff matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. With a Game 6 win on Sunday night in Toronto, the B’s punch their ticket to the second round.

The B’s continue to express their disappointment with the Game 5 loss, but they are looking forward to turning the page. In the past, the Bruins have done well in dealing with adversity and that’s the experience they plan to use in the bounce-back effort against the Leafs on Sunday night.

Check out the video above to hear what the B’s plan to do differently in Game 6.

David Ortiz was vocal in his denial of performance-enhancing drug use after The Boston Globe’s Dan Shaughnessy wrote a column questioning the slugger’s early season success.

Red Sox chairman Tom Werner also came to the slugger’s defense, calling out Shaughnessy for his “fact-less” attack on the Boston designated hitter.
David Krejci has been arguably the best player on the ice in these playoffs, leading the NHL in points (10), goals (tied with Chicago’s Patrick Sharp with five) and plus-minus (tied with teammate Nathan Horton with a plus-7) in the postseason.

That dominance was on full display Wednesday night, when his hat trick — coupled with Tuukka Rask‘s stellar play in net — powered the Bruins to a 4-3 overtime win over the Maple Leafs in Game 4 of their first-round series. Boston can close out the Leafs on Friday at TD Garden, and Bruins play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards expects Krejci to again play a starring role.

With both Andrew Bailey and Joel Hanrahan currently on the disabled list, the Red Sox’ options at closer are limited. Junichi Tazawa is the guy for now, barring anymore unfortunate circumstances.

But when Bailey does return from his biceps injury, which will hopefully be early next week, how should manager John Farrell organize his bullpen?

Bailey was very impressive in the period between taking over for Hanrahan and going on the DL, posting a 1.46 ERA and a 0.81 WHIP in 13 total appearances.

Tazawa has yet to be tested in the closer’s role, as the team has yet to find itself in a save situation since he took over, but he was one of the best arms in the Boston bullpen in his earlier stint as a setup man. He held opponents scoreless in 13 of his 17 appearances, allowing four runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out 14 over 12 2/3 innings.

One thing is for sure: the closer will not be Hanrahan — not anytime soon, at least. The Red Sox transferred him to the 60-day DL on Thursday, putting him out of commission until at least early July.

Who do you think is Boston’s best option at closer going forward? Voice your opinion in the poll below.
