The NESN Trivia crew hit the hardwood for their latest episode, checking in at the New England Sports Museum inside the TD Garden to test your knowledge on the 17-time world champion Boston Celtics.

Throughout their years in existence, the Celts have had mixed success, but most of those years were incredibly successful with coaches like Red Auerbach, Tom Heinsohn and Doc Rivers.

The C's will play their home opener on Friday night at TD Garden against the hapless Detroit Pistons, and it will likely present Boston's best chance at a win thus far. The Green enter the opener sitting at 0-3 after starting the season on a three-game road trip.

Record aside, it could be too early to claim the sky is falling for an aging Celtics team. They may be 0-3, but it's not like they've been playing the Little Sisters of the Poor. Two of Boston's three losses came against legitimate Eastern Conference contenders, opening the season with a loss against the Knicks before falling to the Heat earlier this week. The third loss, a defeat at the hands of the lowly New Orleans Hornets, came on the second night of a back-to-back following the loss in Miami.

Another reason the Celtics haven't gotten out on the right foot has a lot to do with the right foot of their best player. Paul Pierce has yet to hit the floor, and he could make his return on Friday night. 

While there may be greener pastures ahead for the Green, they can't sit around too long and wait for things to turn around. Pierce's return will help, there's no doubting that, but things will ultimately get more difficult for the C's down the road. If they can't take advantage of a favorable stretch they're about to enter (17 of the next 22 at home), Boston will be in deep trouble. The schedule only gets tougher as the season progresses, something that will be magnified for a team as old as the C's.

However, with that heavy veteran presence, the Celtics will surely be looking to just get into the playoffs (and hopefully avoid the Heat and Bulls in the first round). An 0-3 start certainly won't do anything to put that in jeopardy. However, if they can't turn things around at some point in the near future, it could be a long winter and spring in Boston for Celtics fans.

Bautista quite literally blasted onto the scene in 2010. He had been a decent player since breaking into the bigs in 2004 at the age of 23, but Bautista took the baseball world by storm last season. He personified the swing-for-the-fences attack of the Blue Jays, hitting 54 home runs, the most in the majors.

The 54 home runs were the most in baseball since Alex Rodriguez hit 54 in 2007, and Bautista became the first to eclipse 50 since A-Rod and Prince Fielder both did it in that '07 campaign.

For those wanting to dismiss Bautista's home run prowess in 2010 as a one-year thing, he's responded thus far in 2011 with continued power. He took Red Sox starter Jon Lester deep on Tuesday night, and by doing so, Bautista moved into a tie with Curtis Granderson for the most homers in the majors with 11.

For those thinking that pitchers will eventually smarten up and stop giving Bautista pitches to hit should consider that it's already starting to happen. Bautista got to 54 round-trippers last year despite being walked 100 times. That's not necessarily a huge walks total, but it's still worth mentioning.

This year, however, is even more impressive. Bautista leads the league with 31 free passes this season, and despite that, he still leads the major leagues in home runs.

Still, if pitchers can start to prove that they can work Bautista away — he still hits practically every home run to left field — they might be able to limit his home run totals. But if Bautista continues to hurt mistakes like he did all last season and has continued to do this season, there's a good chance baseball fans will find his name atop the home run leaders at the end of the season.

A few weeks ago, the Virginia Commonwealth Rams were considered just another pesky team that bracketologists hated for messing up what should have been easy picks. Now people are starting to take notice. After losing four out of their last five regular-season games, many counted the Rams out, but they’re still fighting.

With the exception of star guard Kemba Walker, little about the University of Connecticut’s men’s basketball team stood out to critics at the beginning of the season. Few could have predicted how well Walker’s teammates would step up and help him carry the team through the playoffs. Jim Calhoun‘s boys have been nothing short of impressive.

Of course, the Cinderella story of VCU has been overshadowing the unlikeliness of the Butler Bulldogs making it to the Final Four for the second year in a row. Following an embarrassing loss to bottom-dweller, Youngstown State, the Bulldogs were 14-9 and their playoff chances were slim.

Unlike the other three schools, it is not as surprising that the Kentucky Wildcats ended up where they are. John Calipari knows how to coach tournament-winning teams and the Wildcats won with style over No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 North Carolina.

Picking at random, you have roughly a 1-in-240 billion shot of filling out a perfect bracket. Taking into account that all the games aren't completely random (a No. 1 seed has never lost in the first round), you can improve yours odds to around 1-in-150 million, says the Wall Street Journal.

Not bad, right?

It should be easy for those No. 1 seeds to just roll over the speed bump that is presented to them when the better of two 16-seeds comes calling. Usually, that’s the case. But not always.

More often than not, the big guns of college basketball are able to roll through the play-in winners. In 2007, No. 1 seed, Kansas, wiped the floor with Niagara, to the tune of a 107-67 rout. Then, the following year, North Carolina got a good practice in while drubbing Mount St. Mary’s by 39.

It’s not always easy. In fact, since the play-in game was introduced, there have been three games between the play-in winner and a No. 1 seed that was settled by less than 20 points. It may not seem like much of an accomplishment, but when you consider the great disparity in talent between the teams, it’s kind of impressive.

In 2006, one team even gave a No. 1 seed a scare, cutting the lead to 10 in the second half, before falling off en route to a 13-point, 58-45 loss.

Every so often, athletes give up their quest for a championship ring and instead hit the campaign trail in search for a spot in office.

Former NBA player Bill Bradley is one of the better-known ex-athletes who tried his hand at politics. All in all, a life in politics has suited Bradley nicely. In fact, the former New York Knick-turned-U.S. Senator tried a run at the White House in 2000. He failed, but it was progress for the athlete-politician.

The late Jack Kemp, the AFL MVP in 1965, also had a pretty decorated political resume. Kemp served terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing New York and was named Secretary of Housing under President George H.W. Bush.
