Bergie has come a long way since his rookie year, earning many individual awards, hoisting a Stanley Cup and being named the team’s alternate captain.

Back when he first joined the B’s, Bergeron and then-teammate goalie Andrew Raycroft starred in a memorable NESN promo, which can be seen below. The commercial was called “Zamboni on the Lenny,” and it even scored NESN an Emmy Award.

Carl Yastrzemski is special to Boston sports fans for so many reasons. He is, of course, celebrated in large part because of what he did on the field during his 23-year Hall of Fame career with the Red Sox. For that, he is one of the most popular players in team history.

However, he's also celebrated for the way in which he embraced the city of Boston, the region of New England and its fans.

So, on Yaz's 72nd birthday, it's only fitting that NESN celebrates the birthday of a legend. See the video above for more.

Love him or hate him, Manny Ramirez, always provided entertainment during his time in Boston.

So it should not have come as a surprise to Tom Werner and David Ortiz that the left fielder would crash their interview. As Ortiz talked with Werner about what an honor it was to be selected to his first All-Star Game back in 2004, a familiar right arm came into the picture.

Ortiz and Ramirez joked with Warner about the atmosphere at the 2004 All-Star Game in Houston before making sure their batting practice coach, Ino Guerrero, was ready for the spotlight. Watch the entire interview in the video above.

What a difference a year makes.

Tim Thomas' career was at a crossroads at the end of the 2009-10 season. The veteran goaltender had lost his starting spot to Tuukka Rask and the Bruins had just given away a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Many wondered if the former Vezina Trophy winner would spend the rest of his contract as a backup.

Thomas wondered the same. In his comments following the playoff loss to the Philadelphia Flyers, Thomas vowed to come back and compete for the starting job in 2010-11.

Few would have guessed that a year later, he would collect the Vezina Trophy (again) and the Conn Smythe Trophy after leading the Bruins to a Stanley Cup Final victory.

It’s been 39 years since the Bruins last won a Stanley Cup, but they are now only four wins away from doing so this season. While Bobby Orr‘s memorable Stanley Cup game-winner in 1970 may be the lasting image of his career, he also helped lead the B’s to their ’72 Cup win, alongside Johnny Bucyk, Gerry Cheevers and others.

The Bruins defeated the New York Rangers that year in six games, their second Stanley Cup Final win over the Rangers in franchise history. The other Cup win over the Rangers came in 1929, which marked the first championship in team history.

Orr won his second Conn Smythe Trophy for the 1972 playoffs, after registering four goals and four assists in the Stanley Cup Final, including the series-winning goal. Goaltender Gerry Cheevers shutout the Rangers in Game 6, 3-0, at Madison Square Garden.

When the Bruins and Lightning finally get their series under way on Saturday night, Tim Thomas and Martin St. Louis won’t be buddies.

Yet while each will be trying to end the other’s season, the two will always have the memories of a magical season back at the University of Vermont.

Thomas is a Vezina winner (perhaps a soon-to-be two-time winner), and St. Louis is a Hart winner, making UVM the only school to boast both a Hart and Vezina winner. But long before the days of NHL glory, the former Catamounts were part of something special in Burlington.

The Bruins may have netted two overtime goals against the Canadiens during this year's Eastern Conference quarterfinals, but prior to those, the B's had only ever scored six game-winners after regulation in playoff games against the Habs.

This season had some memorable fights between the Bruins and Canadiens, some feistier than others.

The rivalry has seen some gruesome fights and moments, including Kyle McClaren’s vicious hit on Richard Zednik.

Many diehard Red Sox fans fondly remember the teams of the 1970s.

Take a trip back to the Winter Haven, Fla., training grounds to get a behind the scenes look at the Sox, including legends Bill "Spaceman" Lee as well as Mike Andrews as they participate in spring training activities in 1970.

The Sox went on to win 87 games that season, finishing in third place in the AL East.

The Red Sox swapped grapefruits for cactuses in 1959, as the team headed out to Scottsdale, Ariz., for spring training.

The 1959 team seemed to enjoy everything about the "West's Most Western Town," from the training grounds to the locals.

When the Red Sox moved to Scottsdale, the city was not exactly well known on the map, and the Sox were just the fourth team to join the Cactus League.

The team spent just seven seasons in Arizona, as it was too far away from their loyal fans and their minor league camp. They made the move back to Florida in 1966.

A lot has been made about the Red Sox' offseason acquisitions of Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford, and for good reason. Many people have said that the 2011 season is one of the most eagerly anticipated seasons in recent history — perhaps since 2004.

Of course, the 2004 season brought plenty of excitement, as well, starting with spring training. That was the first chance for Sox fans to get their first glance of Curt Schilling in a Red Sox uniform. It also marked the beginning of the formidable 1-2 punch atop the Boston rotation with Schilling and Pedro Martinez.

Northeastern is looking to end its 23-year Beanpot drought on Monday. The Huskies’ last win came in 1988.

The year was 1993, and the air at spring training was ripe with anticipation.

The past season was a forgettable one for the Red Sox, as they finished dead last in the division. Adding insult to injury, future hall of famer Wade Boggs signed with the hated New York Yankees, where he would go on to enjoy tremendous success. 

Two of the bright spots for Sox fans was a solid performance the year before from Roger Clemens and the breakout year for young first baseman Mo Vaughn.

The 1984 Red Sox — featuring Wade Boggs, Jim Rice and a 21-year-old Roger Clemens — finished fourth in the AL East at 87-76. That season, though, began in the spring in Winter Haven, Fla., with Ted Williams hitting fungos and offering batting tips.

Carl Yastrzemski and the 1967 Red Sox had quite the season, improving by 20 wins from their 1966 mark and making it all the way to game 7 of the World Series.

It was a whirlwind spring training for the 1958 Red Sox, who flew to the West Coast for an exhibition game with the new-look Giants and Dodgers, who both packed up shop in New York over the offseason to relocate to sunny California.

Hollywood star Jerry Lewis, who had just wrapped up filming Rock-A-Bye Baby and was in the midst of filming The Geisha Boy, was able to make time to take some grounders and play catch with members of the Sox. Former Sox legends Harry Hooper and Joe Cronin welcome the Sox to San Fransisco, as seen in the video above.

Long before our 2011 countdown, Red Sox fans were looking forward to the team reporting for spring training. Back in 1956, the Red Sox called Sarasota, Fla., home for their preseason workouts.

Just over 150 miles north in DeLand, Fla., was the springtime home of one of the Red Sox minor league affiliates, the San Francisco Seals. The Seals had an established set of instructors, including well-known reliever, Johnny Murphy, who suited up for both the Red Sox and the Yankees in his career.

Take a trip back in time to check out the Red Sox preparing for the 1956 season in Sarasota and DeLand, Fla.

Starting in 1933, the Red Sox called Sarasota, Fla., home for spring training. In 1955, the Sox were joined not only by Stan Musial and the St. Louis Cardinals on the Gulf Coast, but also by Ringling Brothers Circus, which was holding a spring training of its own.
