John Lackey has turned in two of his most impressive performances in a Red Sox uniform over the past six days.

The veteran right-hander completed his second straight outing without allowing an earned run Friday night, scattering a pair of unearned runs on three hits and three walks over the 13-inning span. This is a very welcoming sign for Red Sox fans, especially since, according to the pitcher himself, Lackey is still not fully recovered from elbow surgery he underwent last season.

Check out Lackey’s take on his most recent win in video above or on NESN’s YouTube channel.

The Red Sox’ choice to call up infielder Jose Iglesias and pitcher Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A after placing Will Middlebrooks and Shane Victorino on the disabled list leaves the team with just one reserve outfielder on the active roster.

As The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo mentioned during Red Sox GameDay LIVE prior to Friday night’s game, Boston’s desire to work utility infielder Pedro Ciriaco into the outfield rotation may have played a role in the decision not to bring up a full-time outfielder from Pawtucket.

Ciriaco has spent limited time in the outfield in the past — appearing in seven games there for the Sox last season and two for Pittsburgh in 2011 — and saw time with the outfielders in spring training.

To hear more from Cafardo, check out the video above or visit NESN’s YouTube channel.

It has been less than a week since Jose Iglesias began taking reps at third base in Pawtucket, but Red Sox manager John Farrell trusts the young infielder’s instincts enough to pencil him at the position Friday night.

Iglesias impressed at shortstop during his six-game stint with the big league club back in April but has never seen action at the hot corner in the majors.

“Talking with [PawSox manager] Gary DiSarcina, it just felt like [Iglesias] took to the position naturally,” Farrell said before Friday’s game against Cleveland. “He’s a very instinctual player. He’s got very good reactions and reflexes, and that’ll be the case more at third base than being back in the middle of the infield where he’s got a little more time to get the pace and the speed of the ground ball.”

Check out the video above or visit NESN’s YouTube channel to hear more from Farrell on the rest of the team’s roster moves, plus his take of Terry Francona‘s return to Fenway.

The Eastern Conference semifinals will not end in a sweep.

The Bruins entered Madison Square Garden on Thursday with the chance to send the Rangers home for the summer, but they could not recreate the inspired play that was a hallmark of Games 1 through 3. Those struggles included uncharacteristic mistakes from two of the team’s best players, as Tuukka Rask tripped in the crease to allow one easy goal and Zdeno Chara turned the puck over behind the net for another.

To hear what both of those players, plus defenseman Dougie Hamilton and head coach Claude Julien, had to say after the game, check out the video above.

Ryan Dempster did not have his best stuff Thursday night, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks in what turned into a 12-3 win for the Indians. The three innings pitched were a season-low for the veteran right-hander, who was critical of his performance in the clubhouse after the game.

“My command’s been terrible,” Dempster said. “I’ve walked 10 guys in my last nine innings, and they’re unnecessary walks. I have to fix that. … The last couple games I haven’t been throwing the ball where I want to throw it. I’ll get back to doing that.”

Tyler Seguin turned in his best performance of the postseason Thursday night, tallying a goal and an assist and tying for the team lead with six shots on goal, but a mental error on his part proved costly in the Bruins’ 4-3 loss to the Rangers.

Just 49 seconds after giving Boston a 3-2 lead midway through the third period, Seguin jumped out early for his next shift, drawing a two-minute penalty for too many men on the ice. New York’s Brian Boyle scored on the ensuing power play, tying the game with exactly 10 minutes to play in regulation. The Rangers would eventually win in overtime to stave off elimination in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinals.

The young winger took full responsibility for the penalty after the game. Check out the video above to hear what he had to say in the locker room.

Terry Francona might not have ended his time as Red Sox manager in storybook fashion, but he didn’t let that spoil his feelings toward his former team when he visited. Now, it’s a different story.

While speaking with the media before his first return to Fenway as an opposing manager, Tito spoke about his feelings coming back to the ballpark where he helped lead a team to two championships. Check out what he had to say in the above video or on NESN’s YouTube channel.

Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg has been out of action since Game 7 against the Maple Leafs. Luckily for him, the B’s have been just fine in his absence, and he admits it makes it easier to take an additional day to get healthy knowing that his teammates are taking care of business.

Even though he’s not on the ice, Seidenberg has a pretty good pulse on the team, and right now he says the Bruins are playing with confidence — a recipe for success. Check out everything Seidenberg told NESN Daily‘s Naoko Funayama at Bruins practice Wednesday in the video below.

Buchholz has been lights out for the Red Sox all season. With the exception of a six-inning, four-run outing against Toronto on May 11, Buchholz has pitched seven or more innings in nine of his ten starts, while allowing two runs or fewer on all nine occasions.

Jose Iglesias‘ name has come up as someone who is known for his defensive prowess, especially now that he is being worked in at positions other than shortstop down in Pawtucket. The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham thinks Iglesias’ tools could certainly help the Red Sox in the field, but he feels that the 23-year-old still needs to improve his offensive game to merit a promotion.

Daniel Paille‘s late tally capped off a third period comeback to knock off the New York Rangers in front of a stunned Madison Square Garden Crowd. The Bruins are now just one win away from closing the series out and moving on to the Eastern Conference final.

Head coach Claude Julien was proud of the way his team played in Game 3, and is confident they will come out swinging against the Rangers in Game 4. Check out the video above to hear more of what Julien had to say.

The Red Sox had no answer for Jose Quintana on Tuesday as the White Sox hurler took a no-hitter into the seventh inning en route to Chicago’s second straight victory.

Boston did manage to break through with four hits and six total baserunners over the final three innings, but they managed just one run against Chicago’s relievers. The (Red) Sox’ best chance to draw even came in the seventh, when they loaded the bases with one only to fall victim to two consecutive strikeouts.

David Ortiz, who singled in the seventh but grounded into an inning-ending double play in the eighth, addressed his team’s offensive struggles after the game. Check out what he had to say in the video above.

Base hits have been elusive for Red Sox leadoff man Jacoby Ellsbury in the last few games. After his first day off all season on Sunday in Minnesota, Ellsbury was back in the Sox lineup on Monday in his usual leadoff spot.

The center fielder grounded out to second base in all four of his appearances at the plate Monday, continuing a road trip that has seen his batting average drop from .257 to .241. On the Sox’ current road trip, Ellsbury’s average is a paltry .125.

Check out the video above to hear Jim Rice break down Ellsbury’s batting struggles, or check it out on NESN’s YouTube channel.

The Bruins learned their lesson in the first round against the Maple Leafs. Now, when they have a chance to put a team in a difficult position, they’re looking to take it.

After nearly coughing up a 3-1 series lead to Toronto, the B’s are intent on taking advantage of their 2-0 edge against New York. Add in the fact that the Blueshirts came back from a 2-0 deficit of their own in their previous series, and you’ve got a pretty compelling case for the B’s to make sure they don’t let their foot off the accelerator.

NESN’s Naoko Funayama caught up with Brad Marchand on Tuesday afternoon to discuss Game 3. See what the Bruins winger has to say in the above video or on NESN’s YouTube channel.

The Bruins are up 2-0 in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Rangers, and they may be up two more players the next time the B’s take the ice in Game 3.

Veteran defenseman Dennis Seidenberg practiced with the team for the first time since injuring himself a week ago during the Bruins’ Game 7 win over the Maple Leafs. Defenseman Wade Redden also practiced with the team for the second time since an injury. The two are still listed as day-to-day, but it’s possible they could be ready to play by game time on Tuesday.

If they are, it would leave head coach Claude Julien with some tough roster decisions since the rookie trio of Matt Bartkowski, Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton has stepped up admirably in the absence of the veterans.

Hear Julien’s take in the video above, or check it out on NESN’s YouTube channel.

The Sox had to try and claw their way out of a 3-0 hole after the first inning, and Lester chalks his struggles up to the fact that he’s never played well against the White Sox.

The Red Sox bullpen fell victim to the injury bug over the last few weeks, but it is on its way back to flourishing. Closer Andrew Bailey was activated off of the 15-day disabled list on Monday and Righty Jose De La Torres was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Bailey is 1-0 on the season with five saves and a 1.46 ERA. He has 20 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings. The righty returns to the Sox’ bullpen for the first time since April 28, after being placed on the DL with biceps tendinitis.

Red Sox manager John Farrell doesn’t plan to throw Bailey right back into the fire, though. Check out the video above to see how Farrell plans to use Bailey in the coming games, or watch on NESN’s YouTube channel.

The Bruins’ defense played a big role in their 5-2 win on Sunday over the New York Rangers. Torey Krug and Johnny Boychuck each netted goals, while Matt Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton were both credited with assists.

Though they may be young, Krug, Bartkowski and Hamilton have proved themselves worthy of head coach Claude Julien‘s confidence moving forward in the series. Julien said he has encouraged the young players to continue doing the things they know they do well in order to continue making an impact.

The Red Sox were able to pick up their fifth straight win on the road on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins, but it took a little while to do it. The Sox came back out and captured the win after a three-hour rain delay.

Starting pitcher John Lackey pitched six innings in the 5-1 victory, but knew after the first half hour of the delay that he wouldn’t be going back into the game. Lackey said the team spent the time watching a classic baseball movie in the clubhouse.
