The legend of Ilya Bryzgalov continues to grow, and while it may be too early to say, the Philadelphia Flyers goalie isn’t doing much to prove he deserves to keep his contract and stay with the Flyers.

The latest escapade may be his most damning if it is indeed true. According to Philly.com, the Flyers netminder fell asleep during a team meeting. According to the report, Bryzgalov appeared to fall asleep in a meeting on Monday. That meeting came after a practice in which Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette told Bryzgalov and Steve Mason that Mason would be getting the start for the Flyers on Tuesday against the Islanders.

An original report from the team’s flagship radio station stated that Byrzgalov was benched Tuesday because he fell asleep. That’s been disputed by Laviolette, and if the chain of events in the Philly.com story are correct, the snooze came after Bryzgalov was told he was sitting Tuesday.

“Whether he was actually sleeping or not, no one knows for sure,” an anonymous player told Philly.com. “It seemed like he may have been doing it to get a rise out of other players. I’m not really sure why he did it, or if he was faking it. Either way, it seemed to catch and lot of people by surprise and angered a few people.”

It’s the latest in what’s become a growing line of distractions for the Flyers, who are in the midst of a very disappointing season. They dropped a 4-1 decision to the Islanders on Tuesday night, and they now find themselves in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, five points out of the final playoff spot.

Many have speculated or suggested that the Flyers should buy out Bryzgalov’s contract at some point. Bryzgalov is currently in the early stages of a nine-year, $51 million contract that isn’t set to expire until after the 2019-20 season. That deal comes with a $5.67 million cap hit per season.

In Monday's women's basketball matchup with France, Australia trailed 64-62 with just 3.3 seconds left on the clock. French center Isabelle Yacoubou went to the foul line, nailing the first shot but missing the second. Australian center Abby Bishop grabbed the rebound off the missed shot and passed to teammate Belinda Snell.

Snell then nailed a hopeful, last-second shot from beyond half-court to tie the game and send it to overtime. The shot wasn't enough to power Australia to a win, however, as they fell 74-70 in overtime.

Check out Snell's shot in the video below.

The U.S. has been fortunate to have many of the best Olympic athletes represent them at the Games. Michael Phelps has been a dominant force in the pool over the last decade, taking home 16 Olympic medals in the last two Games. Teammate Ryan Lochte is his biggest competition, and the two will square off again in London for the gold.

The pool isn’t the only place the U.S. has some serious talent. Hope Solo and Alex Morgan are part of a talented women’s soccer team, while Kobe Bryant leads the charge for Olympic gold on the basketball court.

So, when Obama isn’t taking care of the United States’ domestic and foreign affairs, he’s apparently trying to find a way to keep Eagles quarterback Michael Vick safe. Vick has a long history of serious injuries — most of them from being hit while scrambling.

Obama says he wants Vick to slide to avoid taking big –- and potentially dangerous -– hits.

Obama first shared his opinion when he met up with Philadelphia cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha at an event in Oakland, Calif. The two talked football, with Obama offering up the sliding advice and asking Asomugha to pass the message along to Vick.

Vick apparently didn’t think it was a bad idea. He responded to Obama on Twitter, thanking him for the advice. Check out the tweet below.

If the President of the U.S is saying I need to slide then I really need to start sliding. Lol. Thanks Mr. President!

Former NHL draft pick Ladislav Scurko has been sentenced and convicted in the 2008 murder of referee Marek Liptaj.

Scurko was convicted and sentenced on Monday to eight years in prison, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Scurko originally confessed to the crime, claiming that Liptaj was living in his home and lying about having cancer. When Scurko found out about the lie, he attempted to get Liptaj to leave. The argument that ensued resulted in Scurko stabbing Liptaj multiple times with a kitchen knife. However, Scurko claimed last July that he had been tricked by local police and recanted the statement.

After spending more than two years in prison, the Philadelphia Flyers 2004 draft pick was released earlier this year while pending a new trial. While out of prison, Scurko signed and played with his hometown club HK Slovan Gelnica, a third division team in Slovakia.

Scurko's sentence of eight years is the minimum for such an offense.

Davis was playing for the USA national team as an emergency addition while Calipari was coaching the Dominican Republic in Thursday’s matchup.

After Davis was fouled while nailing a three-pointer — to extend USA’s lead over the Dominican to 53 points en route to a 113-59 win — he had something to say to his former coach.

Kobe Bryant is a busy man. When he’s not sparking debates over which USA basketball team is the best, he’s training with Team USA for the Olympics. Now, he’s engaging in another war of words –- this time with Kyrie Irving.

The 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year has challenged Bryant to a game of 1-on-1 and even put a $50,000 bet riding on the outcome. The money, of course, would go to charity.

Bryant tried to talk him down, generously offering to knock the bet down to $25,000 and even offering to delay the matchup for another year, but the confident Irving remained undeterred.

Check out the video below to hear the friendly trash talk between the two teammates.

This spud's for you, Olympic fans.

While athletes from around the globe will be competing on the world's biggest stage, hungry spectators will be forced to turn to McDonald's to get their fix of fries, according to the Daily Mail.

The organizing committee revealed that the 800 food retailers at the 40 Olympic venues will not be able to serve fries — known as chips in Great Britain — because of "sponsorship obligations" with the fast food giant.

The only exception that's been made to the rule is for the places that will be serving fish and chips, so those worried about getting McDonald's fries when they order Britain's traditional meal can be happy to know that that won't be the case.

To keep up with the demand of the hungry viewers, the world's largest McDonald's — two stories tall and 3,000 square feet — has been constructed next to the Olympic stadium.

But, as Lewis apparently doesn't know, pulling the fire alarm is not the best way to try and get back in, according to ESPN.

The Philadelphia Eagles running back and his brother, Lamar Lewis, were arrested early Saturday morning after pulling the fire alarm at an Albany, N.Y. area hotel where they were staying.

The Lewis brothers found themselves locked out of the hotel when they returned after a late night out. While the hotel's lobby doors locked at midnight, any guest could still enter the building with their key — something the brothers were apparently unaware of. When they returned and found themselves unable to get back into the building, the brothers, who were intoxicated at the time of the incident, panicked and began banging on the doors. When no one responded, they pulled the fire alarm.

Lewis quickly discovered this wasn't the best way to handle the situation, as both he and his brother were arrested and charged with falsely reporting a fire, a felony, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

Lewis later released a statement apologizing for his actions.

With millions of users ranging from celebrities and large corporations to your regular, everyday people, Twitter holds a bevy of information. While it can serve as a news source, and legitimate information does get tweeted, Twitter is also a breeding ground for rumors, false information and parody accounts looking to trip people up.

Miami's FOX affiliate WSVN fell into the fake Twitter trap Thursday night when they reported that Ray Allen had signed a 3-year $11 million deal with the Miami Heat. The problem? Their source was a fake Twitter account and the deal hadn't actually happened.

This false report is problematic for a couple of reasons. One, the media has the responsibility to deliver reliable and accurate news to their audience. Though WSVN took to Twitter, the very same platform that led to their blunder in the first place, to apologize for jumping the gun with the false report, an apology doesn't make up for the fact that the error occurred in the first place.

For every apology that a media outlet has to make, they lose a bit of credibility. When the media releases information, they need to make sure that what they are putting out is accurate, from looking for grammar and spelling mistakes to using legitimate sources and checking facts.

Of course mistakes do get made, but to let something so large as not properly checking out the source slide is unacceptable. While it's important to get news up quickly, doing so should not compromise the quality of the report. The audience relies on the media to get correct information and when a news outlet has to repeatedly apologize for mistakes in its reporting, they begin to lose their credibility and the audience stops turning to them to get information.

Secondly, this was an error that WSVN should have caught. Their source was a parody account of Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. The real Adrian Wojnarowski's account is verified through Twitter, something many celebrities, athletes and news outlets do to prove that it is really them and not a parody account. The verified symbol, a blue circle with a check mark next to the name, distinguishes between the real accounts and the fake ones and would not be found on any of the fake Wojnarowski profiles.

It's easy to be fooled by fake accounts, especially when they have virtually the same profile — including background and photo — as the real one. However, in this case, WSVN could have caught the difference with a quick scan of the account's Twitter page and avoided the whole debacle.

This mistake is just the latest Twitter-related misstep the media has faced in recent days.

ESPN analyst Chris Broussard came under fire for a tweet regarding NBA free agent Eric Gordon and the Phoenix Suns earlier in the week. Gordon released a statement announcing the news that he was committing to the Suns. Minutes later, Broussard was on Twitter with the news, using almost the exact same phrasing as the statement, and said that "Gordon told him."

Broussard was almost immediately assailed by people — on Twitter, of course — calling him out for trying to pass the information from the statement off as his own and not crediting the source. Broussard isn't likely to get in trouble for the way he presented his information, but it certainly created a bit of an embarrassing situation for him.

Twitter can be problematic and lead to embarrassment — as WSVN and Broussard recently discovered — but it's also a great tool when it is utilized properly. It's a great way to find and share information at lightning-quick speed. Breaking news can be put up and delivered in a few clicks, and that news can go viral and spread around the world even faster. However these advantages can also be downfalls if not executed properly.

Twitter is a tool and it's a tool that the media — and everyone else — needs to exercise a level of caution with when using it. Once the news is out, it's out. You can delete your tweets and apologize all you want, but as WSVN and Broussard know, once you put the news out there, you're going to have a hard time reeling it back in and gaining control of the situation.

Everyone on Twitter, from the media to celebrities, athletes and everyday people, needs to stop and think before they tweet or retweet information on Twitter. A couple of clicks can spread information quickly throughout the world, and whether that information is accurate or not can determine whether that's good or bad.

In the new NCAA Football 13 from EA Sports, you can mix it up and put a Heisman Trophy winner on any team you want. That means Tim Tebow is a free agent and could play for anybody — even rival SEC schools.

Check out an ad for the game, showing the conflicting emotions Tebow can cause.

New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias found the puck in his equipment bag, ending the Kings' frantic search for their piece of history.

Elias was the person most likely to have the puck, as he was seen scooping it up off the ice while the Kings celebrated their Cup victory. After picking up the puck, Elias headed over to teammate Martin Brodeur before skating off the ice.

He later cleared the air, saying that while he did pick up the puck, he didn't have it and didn't know where it was. He recalled picking the puck up off the ice and speaking with Brodeur, but said that he must have left the puck on the bench. Elias said that while he didn't think that the puck had traveled to New Jersey in his equipment bag, he would double check his bag and locker to be sure.

Elias, true to his word, checked his equipment bag when he returned from vacation and found the missing puck. He contacted the Kings immediately to return the puck to them.

Kings president and general manager Dean Lombardi was thrilled to hear from Elias that the puck was safe and being returned to the organization.

"It's like a lot of traditions, and it became one of them that the puck has gone to the winning team," Lombardi told the Los Angeles Times. "He called me and said he wanted to make sure it got to its rightful owners. He was a real class act."

Now that the mystery has been solved and the puck is on its way home, the Kings can finally relax and enjoy the victory.

Devils forward Patrik Elias was the most likely person to have it, as he was seen picking the puck up off the ice during the Kings’ celebration.

However Elias says that while he did pick up the puck, he does not have it and he has no idea where the puck could have ended up, according to NJ.com.

“I don’t have it. I have no idea where it is,” Elias told NJ.com. “I grabbed it when the whistle blew. I had it in front of me and I picked it up with my stick. I went over to Marty [Brodeur] and then I sat on the bench and I think I left it there.”

Elias says that he didn’t throw the puck into the crowd and explains that he had no motive to keep the puck for himself.

“I understand it’s a meaningful thing for them,” he told NJ.com. “For me? No. Why would I want to keep a losing Stanley Cup puck?”

The 36-year-old NHL veteran said that while he doesn’t remember seeing the puck get mixed in with his equipment, he would check his locker again to make sure that he didn’t accidentally bring the puck back to New Jersey with him.

Now that Elias has cleared the air and said that he doesn’t have it, the Kings will move on in their search for the historic puck. The NHL says that they will only get involved in the investigation if the Kings ask.

When Corbin DeWitt heard the news that Lillibridge was headed for Boston, he broke down in tears –something his father caught on camera. Now that the video has gone viral, some are criticizing DeWitt’s parents and accusing them of exploiting their son.

Jason and Jennifer DeWitt explained their reasoning for taping their son’s reaction to the Chicago Tribune and fought back against those criticizing them.

“I wasn’t trying to garner the attention of all these haters out there,” the father told the Chicago Tribune. “Really, what I was trying to do was somehow get it to Brent, to show Brent, you know, you’ve got a big fan out there. There’s times I know he’s probably got down on himself for the way his performance has been this year, but I’ve always seen him be positive, and I wanted him to catch a note from a fan saying ‘we’re going to miss you.’”

Jason also made it clear that recording his son’s tears was a one-time thing and that he wasn’t trying to capitalize on his son’s sadness.

“I’m not in the habit of recording my kid crying,” he told the Chicago Tribune. “That’s cruel.”

The video has been set to private on YouTube, suggesting that the DeWitts may have reconsidered their decision to put their son on display. However, a copy of the video is still viewable on the Tribune’s website.

Since the trade, questions have arisen about Will Middlebrooks' new role and how Brent Lillibridge will fit in with the Red Sox. Fans have also reflected on Youkilis' time in Boston, recalling their favorite Youk moments and wishing him well as he starts over with a different Sox team.

The Sox will be a heavily discussed topic on The Dennis and Callahan Morning Show on Tuesday. But they won't be the only topic of discussion, as NFL analysts Boomer Esiason will join the show as well to discuss progress in the Saints bounty case, as well as give a look ahead to the season on the horizon.

Esiason will join the show at 7:45 a.m., but the fun gets started with Dennis and Callahan bright and early at 6 a.m.

However, Kraft has found some of his own personal success — away from Gillette Stadium.

Columbia University announced on Monday that Kraft will be inducted in the 2012 class of the Columbia University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Kraft earned a bachelor's degree in history and economics from Columbia in 1963. Kraft was a member of the freshman football team in 1959 and the varsity lightweight football team in 1960, earning two letters in football. An injury ended his playing career early in his junior year.

As an alumnus, Kraft has remained active at Columbia, serving as a University trustee for two six-year terms. He was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Medal, the highest honor for a member of the Columbia community, in late 2004.

The induction ceremony will be held Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Low Memorial Library on Columbia University's Morningside campus. Tickets to the ceremony and black-tie dinner are available by calling Cathleen Clark at (212) 851-9610.
