The former NBA point guard for most notably the San Antonio Spurs, though, has decided that it’s time to relocate, and he has put his mansion on the market, for a mere $8.9 million.

So what would one be buying for that kind of money? Well, Johnson’s 14,396 square-foot mansion, located in The Woodlands, Texas, looks like an architectural wonder with a classy feel to it.

The mansion has eight full bathrooms, two half baths, seven bedrooms and an elevator in the interior. On the outside there is a massive patio and pool, which overlook the 17th hole of The Club at Carlton Woods.

And with a property of this value, there is also a manned gate to keep you safe.

After requiring overtime(s) in each of the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final, Boston put away the Blackhawks in regulation in Game 3, claiming a 2-0 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

The squads skated to a scoreless tie through the first period of play, but Daniel Paille — Saturday night’s overtime hero — beat Corey Crawford for what proved to be the game-winner just 2:13 into the second.

Patrice Bergeron added another tally — his seventh of the playoffs — off a perfect feed from Jaromir Jagr in the later stages of the period, and Tuukka Rask posted his third shutout of the postseason to put the B’s just two wins away from a championship.

Well, one couple with a mutual love for the Hartford Whalers (and each other, hopefully) decided to break all the rules and put together a Whalers-themed wedding that actually looks fun and well put-together.

Kate Murphy and Sean Dwyer were married on March 30 at Gardner Veteran’s Arena in Gardner, Mass. Of course, the initial suspicion of anyone would be that a hockey-themed wedding would be the husband’s idea, but not so, according to Puck Daddy.

“She knew I was a diehard Whalers fan,” said Dwyer. “It was her idea. I joke with everyone that this was her way to get me commit.

“I was like, ‘Alright, I want a mascot.’”

And get a mascot Dwyer did. In fact, Dwyer somehow acquired the Harford Whalers’ original mascot for the day — Plucky the Whale. But that was really just one of the many, many points of attention to detail in the event.

Murphy had a Whalers logo on her train, while her now-husband wore a green tuxedo with a Hartford logo. The bridesmaids wore Whaler blue, while the groomsmen wore jerseys.

The wedding cake was made in the shape of the Stanley Cup, while a beer vendor actually worked the stands while the couple was married on the ice at the arena. A referee presided over the ceremony.

Best of all: the ceremony featured player introductions rather than a procession.

The Norman Rockwell-like image of a father teaching his son how to grip a bat or toss a spiral extends all the way to the professional leagues, where plenty of players can look back on a father’s influence in helping them develop as athletes.

But just because someone’s father reached the top of his sport doesn’t mean that the son is guaranteed the same success. Many sons of famous athletes have to deal with the extra expectations that come with their fathers being sports legends.

Throughout history, though, a few sons have to risen to the same prominence as their fathers, etching their own name in sports without upstaging the cachet that their fathers’ names still hold. See who made our list of the best father-son duos in sports history.

The Bruins looked dead in the water through the early portions of Game 2 in Chicago. Somehow, they survived until overtime — and then they won it.

Daniel Paille‘s game-winning goal in overtime gave the Bruins the most improbable of victories and evened the series at 1-1. Now, the series shifts back to the TD Garden, where the B’s will look to continue their momentum on home ice.

Tuukka Rask was nothing short of brilliant in Game 2, and he will rightfully receive the bulk of the credit for keeping the Bruins competitive during the early portions of the game. However, Jaromir Jagr and Tyler Seguin also deserve recognition for their strong performances, as the two helped turn the tide for the B’s when it looked like Chicago was going to roll to an easy victory.

All in all, the Bruins showed incredible heart coming back from a lackluster first period, and now, the action is headed to Boston.

Naturally, they marked the milestone occasion by sticking around a little while longer than the regulation 60 minutes.

As three periods became four, which became five, which became six and threatened to go on to seven, many Bruins and Blackhawks fans had to wonder if the game would ever end. It did, finally, when Andrew Shaw‘s deflection midway through the third overtime period ended an epic battle of a Game 1 with a 4-3 Chicago victory.

The game started like any other, with the normal amount of gusto for a Cup matchup. Milan Lucic continued his dominant postseason with the only goal of the first period, followed by the first goal of the second period. Before the Bruins could think about a runaway victory, Brandon Saad scored on a wrister to make it a game.

But it was still a game the Bruins controlled after Patrice Bergeron‘s power-play goal gave Boston a 3-1 advantage. The Bruins just relaxed too much, too early with their two-goal lead. Dave Bolland and Johnny Oduya needed just over two minutes to score a goal apiece and knot up the score, sending the game into a first overtime, then a second and a third.

Then, Shaw sent everyone to bed. Finally.

Now, two years after retiring, Jones has put his Roswell home up for sale for $3.19 million.

The house is composed of seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and a six-car garage. It is part of an elite gated community, which only adds to its impressiveness.

The fan favorite’s house exudes Southern charm and elegance. From the spacious kitchen with more wood than a Louisville Slugger factory to a picture-perfect patio, Jones’ former abode would be a treat for anyone willing to shell out the cash.

It’s also a chance to live where Chipper Jones once lived. For some diehard Braves fans, that just may be a deal-maker.

Whether it’s the sharing of the two most famous curses in the history of sports, the various playoff meetings between the four professional sports teams in both cities or the multiple on-field brawls both cities were involved in, Boston and Chicago have formed quite the rivalry over the years. That’s not to mention the athletes that have worn both a Boston and Chicago jersey or sweater during their careers.

With so much history between the two cities, though, some moments inevitably had to be left out. These moments include the Bird vs. Jordan video game, the New England Revolution and Chicago Fire playoff rivalry from 2002-09 and the front page of the Chicago Tribune after the marathon bombings, which paid tribute to the sports teams in Boston.

So click on the link below and take a ride down memory lane with videos and pictures of some of the best sports moments the two cities have shared.

They cheer wildly for and adore Boston forward Brad Marchand, who has already made a pretty good career out of getting under the skin of the opposition.

The hockey world saw that two years ago when Marchand ran his mouth and toed the line against the Vancouver Canucks en route to the Bruins’s the Stanley Cup win. Isn’t that right, Daniel Sedin?

Unlike the Canucks, the Blackhawks should be able to go toe-to-toe with the Bruins when the Cup Final begins on Wednesday. Not only can the Hawks match the B’s in toughness and size (Boston and Chicago actually have identical average team height, while the Blackhawks have the edge by a single pound in average weight), but the Blackhawks should also do some agitating of their own.

That’s thanks in large part to Andrew Shaw. The 21-year-old has already developed the reputation of a player who will push that invisible line, even to the point of crossing it at times. Shaw has been a pest the entire postseason, and that comes after he made a name for himself (perhaps in the wrong way) a year earlier.

It’s safe to say that he’ll be getting his hands dirty in this series as well, which could turn into one of the most intriguing storylines of what should be a fantastic Stanley Cup Final.

Somebody must have forgotten to tell Tuukka Rask.

Rask, the Bruins goaltender who faced so much pressure when he took over for onetime Stanley Cup hero Tim Thomas, is building his own legacy after another sterling performance in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Penguins on Friday. Rask stopped all 26 shots he faced and received support from his teammates in a hectic final minute as the Bruins complete the sweep of the mighty Penguins. The Bruins are heading to the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in three years, but this one feels just as new and unfamiliar as 2011.

Adam McQuaid scored the only goal of the night with a slapshot past Pittsburgh goalie Tomas Vokoun in the third period. The last 15 minutes turned into a defensive clinic by the Bruins, and it is almost as fun to relive in pictures as it was to watch in real time.

The Red Sox find themselves in a unique spot this year. After a disappointing 2012 season, Boston holds the seventh overall pick in the upcoming draft, meaning they could reel in an elite prospect.

It’s no guarantee, of course, that the Red Sox will make out like bandits with the No. 7 pick. But when they do make their selection on June 6, they’ll do so knowing that the No. 7 pick often develops into a valuable big leaguer, or even an All-Star.

Grading a baseball draft right away is extremely difficult. Unlike in other sports, where the return on a pick is sometimes immediate, players typically work their way through a team’s minor league system before arriving in the majors. That doesn’t make owning a high draft pick any less important. It just means that we often have to wait before gaining a better understanding of a player’s true potential, and we often forget where exactly a player was drafted by the time he enters the league.

Admittedly, the seventh overall pick has yielded some no-namers in the past. But let’s focus on the 10 best seventh overall picks of all time, which include Clayton Kershaw, Prince Fielder and the red-hot Matt Harvey.

After reading those names, how can Boston fans not be excited about the upcoming draft?

The two teams needed double overtime to determine a winner, where Patrice Bergeron beat Tomas Vokoun to stake Boston to a 3-0 series lead after one of the most hard-fought victories in recent memory.

In a game full of momentum swings and heart-stopping action, the Bruins were somehow, someway able to emerge victorious in the end. Physical play ruled the contest, and it was anyone’s game for much of the night, but now the B’s can start thinking about a sweep.

With James and the Heat heading to their third straight NBA Finals, this time against Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs, we took a look at the highest-rated finals TV broadcasts in NBA history. Despite James’ popularity, he is nowhere near the top of the list. In fact, he is not even in the top 25.

The highest-rated NBA Finals James took part in was his 2011 loss to the Mavericks. That series drew a 10.2 rating, the 26th-highest audience in finals history.

This does not mean James is less popular than Michael Jordan, Larry Bird or Magic Johnson, however. In James’ era, ESPN and TNT have had to compete with the Internet and video games, two mediums that were no competition with cable — much less broadcast — television when Jordan retired (for a second time) in 1998. The NBA has not suffered any decrease in popularity, either, as new forms of following the sport have helped it grow globally.

Still, with all the talk lately about relocating teams to bigger markets, it is interesting to see how many supposedly “small” market teams viewers flocked to their TVs to watch.

LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade have been part of the last three finals trips, while other members of the team celebrated their first Eastern Conference title with the Heat after Monday’s victory over the Pacers in Game 7. Ray Allen, who won a ring with the Celtics in 2008, and Chris Andersen, who was out of the NBA six months ago, celebrated together on the court at AmericanAirlines Arena after the 99-76 win.

Heat owner Micky Arison joined in the party, too, because he’s the boss, and that’s his prerogative. Former players like Alonzo Mourning and bit players like Norris Cole happily mingled with the current stars. The ultimate goal lies ahead, but for the meantime the Heat forgot about the Spurs and basked in the moment.

So far, the Bruins have been the biggest, baddest guys on the ice in the Eastern Conference final.

Brad Marchand netted two goals while Nathan Horton, Patrice Bergeron, Johnny Boychuk and Jaromir Jagr each added two points as the Bruins dominated Pittsburgh 6-1 to take a two games to none lead in the best-of-seven series. Penguins goalie Tomas Vokoun was yanked and replaced by Marc-Andre Fleury in the first period, but it did not matter. The Bruins were in total control no matter who was between the pipes.

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask played another brilliant game, stopping 26 of 27 shots, to make his teammates’ job that much easier. Krejci’s goal was his eighth of the season, while Bergeron’s ended a drought that began right after his unforgettable third period and overtime in Game 7 against the Maple Leafs. Taken all together, it was a strong performance from a team that appears to have “flipped the switch.”

It would be difficult to call them that after this one.

Boston dominated throughout, running away from the Penguins en route to a 3-0 victory and a one-game lead in this best-of-seven series. David Krejci‘s two goals paced the Bruins to a surprisingly easy victory, in a game that set the stage for some serious fireworks in the rest of these conference finals.

Physical play ruled the day as things got chippy between the two squads quickly. Matt Cooke was ejected for a dirty hit on Adam McQuaid, Patrice Bergeron fought Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby even entertained the thought of starting something with Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.

There’s a lot of hockey left to be played between these two teams. It should be fun.

The retired NFL quarterback may be looking for a new home as he recently put his New England property on the market. Flutie is selling his $1.69 million, 12-room home home in Natick, Mass., where spent his formative years and ended his career.

Flutie’s stat sheet showcases his versatility — or at least his willingness to try whatever is asked of him. His home does the same. A white grand piano very well could be for decoration or to appease the high-class culture. Or Flutie could be the piano genius of this generation. And his private basketball court may see the shots and layups of a former NFLer who aspires to be an NBAer.

Or maybe they both just look nice. Probably the latter.

Aside from the musical and sporting adventures Flutie may or may not have had, the house has a backyard that makes even the most snow-loving New Englander pray for summer. The walk-out deck overlooks a heated, in-ground pool straight out of a Travel Channel special.

Although the pool begs for warm weather, let’s be real — it’s New England. Fret not, though, there is a heated driveway to come to the rescue.

However, even the most generous of Washington bleacher creatures did not shell out the dough for the quarterback’s latest purchase — a new home.

The Redskins phenom paid $2.1 million for his Virginia home that includes five bedrooms, six bathrooms and enough kitchen counter space for his offensive line to feast for the remainder of the offseason.

All of that, while nice enough, is far too average to make this house stand out. Throw in an all-stone wine cellar and an elevator — yes, an elevator — and it sounds more suited for the 2011 Heisman winner.

The house is among others in a gated community that includes a golf course, tennis courts, a fitness center and a clubhouse. These features should be more than enough to ease the emotional strife of Griffin’s knee surgery rehabilitation. In fact, his teammates may need to drag him back onto the field.

They seized it.

Torey Krug continued his unlikely run as a playoff hero by scoring the tying goal in the second period, and Gregory Campbell followed up with the game-winner and an empty-net goal to boot.

Despite a desperate effort by the Blueshirts, the grit of Boston’s fourth line was too much for Henrik Lundqvist to withstand, and the depth of the Bruins forwards won out over the goalie’s superior effort.

Tuukka Rask fended off the Rangers attack from there on out with some help from his teammates, and the Bruins are moving on to face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference finals.

The effort, nicknamed “Here We Stay,” mobilized Sacramentans to show their support and remind the world how they got their reputation as one of the most rabid fan bases in sports.

Even though the threat of relocation is gone, Kings fans are no longer taking their team’s presence for granted. They came out in droves on Thursday for a rare pep rally, titled “Long Live the Sacramento Kings,” decked out in purple and black.

Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson and majority owner Vivek Randive received the loudest cheers, but the rally-goers really should have been cheering themselves. Their efforts, which eclipsed smaller fan-led efforts in other cities to prevent their teams from relocating, painted the NBA into a corner. The league’s relocation committee unanimously voted against allowing the Kings to relocate, and the board of governors followed suit last week. NBA commissioner David Stern then helped facilitate a deal with Randive’s group to keep the team in Sacramento, nixing a deal that had been in place to sell the team to a Seattle-based group.
