This is arguably Shaw’s biggest moment, for lack of a better term. In one of the best series in last year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, Shaw turned things up a notch when he ran over the Phoenix goalie behind the net. Not only that, but Shaw caught him with an elbow up around the head.
“It sucks when that kind of stuff happens, but I’m just glad that he was OK,” Shaw said after the incident. “He went to play the puck and his stick came up towards my face. I tried to get out of the way of it and unfortunately made a little contact.”
That wasn’t enough to convince Brendan Shanahan and the department of player safety that it was an accident. Shaw was suspended three games for his actions.
