June 23, 2011 – drafted forward Kenneth Faried with the 22nd pick of the first round; executed a draft-day trade that sent Raymond Felton to Portland Trail Blazers and brought back Andre Miller
A bit undersized at 6-foot-8 to be a power forward, Faried found teams were tentative to draft him out of Morehead State. Ujiri and the Nuggets liked Faried’s energy and thought he would fit in well with their high-octane style. Faried has averaged a double-double per 36 minutes in his first two seasons, following in the footsteps of small-college studs who turned out to be good pros, such as Charles Oakley, Ben Wallace and Paul Millsap. They also nabbed Miller, one of Karl’s favorites, for a pouting Felton.
