Ryan Lavarnway was once considered the Red Sox’ catcher of the future. Now, it looks like he’ll again be sent to Triple-A Pawtucket to begin the season. The 25-year-old finds himself part of a crowded catching situation now that David Ross has been signed to back up Jarrod Saltalamacchia. This isn’t to say Lavarnway won’t have a role with the Sox in 2013 or beyond, but he’ll need to have a good spring in order for the team to think twice about sending him down for more seasoning.
