The Patriots have one of the best linebacker corps in football with Jerod Mayo, Brandon Spikes and Dont’a Hightower. One thing all three players lack, though, is great pass-rushing skills. Phillips, who managed 9 1/2 sacks in 2012, would offer the Patriots a great pass-rushing option outside of Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich. He’s also sound in coverage, which the Patriots desperately need to improve at their second level.
