Bruins acquire: Andrew Ference, Chuck Kobasew Flames acquire: Wayne Primeau, Brad Stuart, 2008 conditional fourth-round pick
Chiarelli’s most important deal at his first trade deadline with the Bruins actually came ahead of the 2007 deadline. A little more than two weeks before the Feb. 27 deadline, Chiarelli sent Wayne Primeau, Brad Stuart and a conditional fourth-round pick to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Andrew Ference and Chuck Kobasew. Both players ended up having an impact on the club moving forward. Kobasew ended up scoring 22 goals in his first full season with the B’s in 2007-08, and he followed that up with 21 goals the season after. Ference, meanwhile, became another crucial piece of the Bruins’ core. One of the most well-respected players in the dressing room and community, Ference fully embraced the idea of being a Bruin. He had some memorable moments both on and off the ice, and that all culminated with the 2011 Stanley Cup.
The B’s also acquired Dennis Wideman at that deadline. Wideman’s flaws ended up making him the butt of a lot of jokes by the end of his time with the Bruins, but the veteran blue liner did have some nice years with B’s. He had arguably the best season of his career in 2008-09 where he had 13-37-50 totals and was a career-best plus-32.
