8. U.S. Reed sends Louisville packing.
Louisville was the defending national champion heading into the 1981 NCAA Tournament and cruised to a first-round victory. Looking ahead to Arkansas in the second round, the Cardinals missed their first attempt to take the lead, but when the ball fell into Derek Smith’s hands, Smith put the tip back in to give the Cardinals a one-point lead with five seconds to go. They looked to have sealed the game, but little did they know that U.S. Reed had been practicing half-court shots during warm-ups. It’s almost like he knew what was going to happen next.
