There is no disputing what David Ortiz has done for the Red Sox franchise and what he has accomplished during his time with the team.

Big Papi has been part of two World Championship teams, is a nine-time All-Star and has become an important part of the community through his charitable work. Through it all, there is one person he wishes he could share his accomplishments with — his mother.

This Mother’s Day, Ortiz invited a number of inspirational women and mothers to Fenway Park to celebrate. Hear their stories in the video above.

We're still left with more questions than answers following Bobby Valentine's unexplained decision to pinch hit for Jose Iglesias in the middle of an at-bat.

The Red Sox may have a Jacoby Ellsbury clone coming up through the minors.

Boston prospect Jackie Bradley Jr. has been a star in his brief pro baseball career, posting numbers that harken back to Ellsbury’s minor league days. Tom Caron and Matt Stairs discussed the outfielder’s pro potential and where he might fit in with this Red Sox team.

Stairs said he may not have the power that Ellsbury possesses now, but his excellent arm could push the current Sox center fielder over to a corner outfield spot.

Daisuke Matsuzaka's tenure in Boston has had it's up and downs. The lows have been magnified more than the highs, but the Japanese hurler can turn some heads from time to time.

Matsuzaka did that on Friday, pitching well in the Red Sox' victory over the Blue Jays. Matsuzaka didn't get the win, but manager Bobby Valentine thought the righty's fastball and changeup were as good as they've been all year.

Valentine was also pleased with the effort of guys like Daniel Nava and Mauro Gomez, who continue to fight despite the Red Sox being out of playoff contention.

Nothing continues to go right for the Red Sox. After an abysmal road trip, they were promplty swept by the Toronto Blue Jays, with Sunday’s defeat sending the Sox to a magic number of six for mathematical elimination from the playoffs.

Clay Buchholz entered the ninth inning with the score tied at three, hoping to send the Sox to the bottom of the frame for a potential walkoff victory.  With two men on, Bobby Valentine made the trek out to the mound to presumably take out the pitcher after having thrown 113 pitches through 8 1/3 innings. Instead, Buchholz stayed in the game and gave up the eventual game-winning sac fly to Omar Vizquel before getting the hook.

Whether Alex Wilson starts
or finishes a game for the Pawtucket Red Sox, he always puts his team in
position to win.

Wilson, who appears as both a starter or a reliever for the PawSox, had never pitched out of the bullpen in his
professional career until this season. Since making the switch, he's been a nightmare
for opposing hitters. Although he isn't pitching as many innings he used to, he's pitching more often and still succeeding.

Clay Buchholz knows that it takes a team effort to win on a nighly basis. But when you've dropped seven straight games, the pressure to perform only increases.

Buchholz, who was on the losing end of the Red Sox 4-1 defeat on Monday afternoon, felt that pressure but also noticed that maybe he and his teammates were trying to win the game on every pitch and in every at-bat.

Franklin Morales' night didn't quite go as planned on Friday.

The Red Sox starter tossed 5 1/3 innings against the Bronx Bombers, but ultimately the home runs fell like raindrops at Yankee Stadium with the Yankees heading home with 6-4 win.

The loss dropped the Red Sox back to four games under .500 and left Morales feeling like he was responsible.

Aaron Cook was near perfect through five innings on Wednesday night. But one troublesome play ultimately cost the sinkerballer both a no-hitter and a much-needed Red Sox win.

After fielding a ball up the middle in the sixth inning, Cook turned to second base in hopes of turning a double play and getting out the inning. Instead, the pitcher threw the ball into the center field and suddenly a five-run stampede overtook the Sox 2-0 lead.

Boston fell 5-3 to the Orioles on the night, but a disappointed Cook blamed himself for the blunder and the defeat in the end.

Kevin Youkilis knew that when he returned to Fenway Park for the first time since being traded to the Chicago White Sox he would be seeing a lot of familiar faces, and he was looking forward to it.

In his return to Boston on Monday night, Youkilis was able to catch up with his former teammates and say a proper goodbye to the fans who supported him and the ballpark that he called home for eight seasons.

Youkilis, who was awarded a warm welcome from fans in his first at-bat, was also afforded the opportunity to face pitcher Aaron Cook, who he grew up with in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Clay Buchholz had to spent five days in the hospital recently, after suffering from some internal bleeding and erosion of the esophagus.

Buchholz even spent time in the emergency room due to the terrible ailment. But the pitcher was back with the Red Sox on Wednesday and appeared in good spirits while hanging out in the clubhouse.

Buchholz’s fastball command was stellar and his breaking ball was buckling the knees of just about every Blue Jay to stand in the batters box. Clay seemed awfully better and increasingly confident about his progress this season, during his postgame media session.

Felix Doubront agreed that Monday's win was "pretty much" his best of the year.

The young lefty went six innings and struck out six, allowing four hits and two earned runs. The win put him at 5-2 on the season.

Doubront said he was ready for even more, but manager Bobby Valentine turned to the bullpen in the seventh.

Felix Doubront took the loss Tuesday night and had moments where he struggled, but catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia didn't see any problems with the young pitcher, who he said continues to progress.

Saltalamacchia pointed to Doubront working deeper into the game and other areas where the lefty has improved.

Bobby Valentine has been ejected 38 times as a big league manager. Friday’s ejection was his first as skipper of the Red Sox.

Valentine was ejected following an argument stemming from a close play at first base in the ninth inning. Marlon Byrd appeared to beat out a throw to first, but first base umpire Gary Darling called him out. That led to Valentine coming out of the dugout for a spirited discussion that resulted in the Boston manager getting tossed from the game.

After the game, NESN’s Jenny Dell caught up with Valentine to discuss the loss, and one of the topics brought up was Valentine’s ejection. He said that Darling had a short fuse, and that he was thrown out for questioning the ump twice, something you apparently don’t do.

The Red Sox dropped a tight one in Tampa Bay on Wednesday night, and a big part of the loss was due to a Cody Ross misplay in the outfield.

Ross ultimately caught the ball, but the misplay caused his throw home to be delayed, and the Rays' runner scored from third to give Tampa the 2-1 lead.

Josh Beckett was out in vintage form on Tuesday, shredding the opposition through seven innings for his third win of the season.

Beckett threw 93 pitches and allowed only four hits while striking out nine Mariners. The solid start came after a rough, 2 1/3 innings loss to the Indians last week as Beckett endured the recent controversy surrounding his golf outing.

Beckett was also dealing with big expectations after Red Sox pitchers posted four straight quality starts, and some people questioned Beckett's velocity.

"I don't think I was trying to make a statement," Beckett said of his high velocity during the early innings on Tuesday as he rolled through the Mariners' lineup.

Beckett talked about Tuesday's win after the game, giving details about how he approached hitters and chose his pitches to record the dominating performance.

Daniel Nava hit his first career home run on the first pitch he saw in the big leagues. It took nearly two full years before the 29-year-old outfielder finally got another.

Nava blasted his first home run of the season over the Green Monster in Monday night's 6-1 win over Seattle, and the career minor leaguer was both surprised and ecstatic about the result.

Daniel Bard wasn't as happy with his start Saturday as he's been with other performances this season, but he still got the win.

He called Saturday's outing "a step backward," pointing to problems he had executing his pitches.

His stat line looked OK, though. To go with the W, Bard allowed just one run in six innings. He did walk four batters and give up eight hits, but he also struck out two.
