Apparently, the dirty vendor brought his snow cones with him into the men’s room, placing them on the ground in the stall while he did his business. A fan saw the untoward behavior unfolding and sprang into action, whipping out his or her cell phone and grabbing some footage. The fan then sought out another employee to complain to, bringing about the bathroom-bound vendor’s dismissal.

“The Astros were notified immediately by our partner ARAMARK of the incident involving a vendor on Monday night,” new Astros president Reid Ryan said in a statement. ”We commend the swift reaction displayed by ARAMARK of terminating the employee immediately upon learning of the incident that evening.”

ARAMARK, which is responsible for the ballpark’s food, said that the vendor’s actions were “a clear violation of our food safety practices and are not reflective of our standards.” They also claimed that it was an “isolated incident.”

Hopefully the problem, which occurred on Ryan’s first day on the job, isn’t foreshadowing of things to come with the Astros franchise. Then again, given how the team has started the 2013 season, No. 2 might be an improvement after all.

Mike Trout is still really good at baseball.

It seems that Norris thinks Tebow may be the Superman of the NFL. In a column penned on Newsbusters.org, Norris makes his case for why he thinks Tebow could be a superstar.

“I have been following Tim since he became a QB for the University of Florida Gators,” Norris wrote, “and I never have seen a more determined or inspiring athlete to play the game of football.”

Fair enough, determination and inspirational qualities are admirable traits, but what concrete skills does Tebow posses to prove that he is capable of becoming a legend?

“I’ve heard the critics say Tebow has poor technical skills, but the truth is that Tim is a natural leader, an amazingly gifted football player, an inspiration to his team and the possessor of intense determination and strategy to bring any team to victory — no matter what the odds,” according to Norris.

Oh, okay. So, no real, tangible skills.

Tebow ran for just 102 yards last season, completed 6 of 8 passes for 39 yards and scored zero touchdowns after being acquired by the New York Jets. While with Denver in 2011, Tebow was able to mount multiple fourth-quarter comebacks and tallied four overtime victories, but it wasn’t enough to propel the Broncos past the New England Patriots in the 2012 AFC playoffs.

Tebow’s ability to rise to the occasion in Denver leads Norris to claim Tebow as the NFL’s “ultimate clutch player.” And the team that Norris feels could most benefit from Tebow’s clutch services is the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“To put it simply, it’s because Tim could help turn that mediocre team into a championship one,” Norris said. “Tebow works miracles on the field, and his inclusion would embolden the spirit of the Jaguars’ players and fans.”

Norris goes on to say, ”Shad Khan, who is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, David Caldwell, who is the team’s general manager, and coach Gus Bradley should give the preceding some serious thought. Whatever you would pay Tebow would be recouped tenfold by the increase in attendance and the fan base. With Tim as the QB for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team would add thousands (if not tens of thousands) of additional fans to the stadium, including me — even though I don’t live in Florida!”

In a continuation of what seems like a weeks-long feud, Garcia has made yet another unfavorable comment in the back-and-forth between the two, and this one seemed like a bit of a low blow. Garcia agreed with Woods early Tuesday that the two would not publicly reconcile, and Tuesday night he was asked in jest if he would have Woods over for dinner at all during the upcoming U.S. Open.

“We will have him round every night,” Garcia said. “We will serve fried chicken.”

The Spaniard later issued a statement through the European Tour, saying, “I apologize for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players’ Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.”

It seems fair to say that Woods and Garcia probably shouldn’t be paired up anytime soon.

That’s exactly what one minor league team in the Frontier League is doing on Thursday. The Florence Freedom will welcome fans to their game against the Schaumburg Boomers with a bobblehead giveaway. The bobbleheads will be honoring Chargers linebacker Manti Te’o‘s fake girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.

“The collector’s edition bobblehead box will of course be empty,” according to the team’s website.

The team’s promotion Thursday night will also feature an air guitar contest, a pretend kiss cam, an imaginary food fight, and fans with imaginary friends, girlfriends/boyfriends or spouses will be encouraged to sit in a specific section.

That sounds like quite the night of imaginary fun.

One of the most feared defenders in the NFL is also extremely involved in charity work, and he seems to have a knack for making kids’ days. That was on display again this week, when the Texans defensive end paid a visit to one of his biggest fans.

Cristian Beasley, a 12-year-old boy in Splendora, Texas, who suffers from leukemia, is unable to physically attend classes because of his condition. He instead takes classes virtually with the aid of the VGo telepresence system, which allows him to control a small robot equipped with a camera around to each classroom. When it was suggested he give his robot a name, Beasley decided to call it “Watt,” after his favorite football player.

That player caught wind of the situation after Beasley was profiled by a Houston news station, and Watt decided to surprise the young fan.

“When I heard the story that he named his robot after me, and that he was such a big fan, I mean it’s a no brainer to do stuff like this,” Watt told KHOU 11. “To see the smile on his face when he realized I was in the room with him and to see all the kids, there’s no better feeling in the world.”

While a group of players were out for a late-night food run prior to a tournament, they came across a panicked couple pulled over on the side of the road.

“We heard two people screaming in a car, and it turned into driveway right in front of us,” third baseman Zach Stone told LancasterOnline. “A dad hopped out of a car and picked up his kid. He just looked limp. … The kid didn’t look like he had any life to him.”

The Norman family’s 1-year-old son, Braydin, had stopped breathing. Immediately, the team sprang into action. Some attempted to calm the parents while others called 911 and third baseman Tyler McDonald assisted Megan Norman with administering CPR.

Thanks the quick thinking of the Division II ballplayers, Braydin regained consciousness, was transported to the hospital and fully recovered within a day. The youngster even made it down to Millersville’s game against Slippery Rock — in the pouring rain — two days later, where the team posed for a picture with him and presented him with a signed ball.

“We came there just for baseball,” Stone said, “and we ran into this family who needed our help. There’s a lot more to life than baseball.”

Luke Donald won the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament in Japan in November. With the win came the typical trophy and winner’s check and a more unusual prize — a cow.

The tournament was held in Miyazaki, a region that is known for its breed of cattle that is similar to that of Kobe beef. The cows are treated almost like royalty before they are killed to eat — they have names, drink beer and are massaged with sake, according to ESPN.com.

An apparent foodie, Donald chose to keep his prized cow even when most winners choose to trade the cow in for cash on the spot. Donald realized the magnitude of what he had won and was determined to get the cow back to the United States and enjoy a hearty meal.

There was just one big issue — officials told Donald they would not be able to ship the physical cow to the US.

After contacting a chef friend of his, Nick Kokonas, in Chicago, Donald became part of a giant game of telephone that involved Kokonas and international importers to get his cow. The meat is so tasty that restaurants pay nearly $160 per pound for the specific type of beef, Kokonas told ESPN. And diners, who are eating it in smaller pieces, typically pay at least double that price.

The next thing Donald knew, he was told that he didn’t actually win one cow, but that his cow acquisition team would need to specify which cuts and how many pounds of each they wanted. It took months, but the two sides finally reached an agreement.

To make a long story relatively short, Donald finally received his beef on Tuesday. All 200 pounds of it, worth close to $80,000 at retail. After throwing some on the grill and finally tasting it, Donald told ESPN, “Definitely the best beef I’ve ever had.”

After a six-month wait, it had better be.

LeSean McCoy is facing a lawsuit from a woman going by the name “Mary Roe,” who is accusing the Eagles running back of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment and negligence, according to ESPN.com.

Roe claims that she was invited aboard a party bus that went from Philadelphia to a New York City nightclub on December 18, 2012. Once on board, McCoy and his bodyguard, “Big John,” proceeded to spray the party bus guests with water. When Roe complained, McCoy reportedly ordered Big John to “get her.”

“Big John and/or McCoy then struck plaintiff in the face, causing her to fall to the ground, physically restrained her while she was lying on the ground, poured a beverage onto her hair, clothes, and body, and forcibly dragged and pushed her,” the complaint states. “McCoy ordered the driver to stop on the side of the highway, and after the driver did so, both Big John and McCoy then forcibly ejected plaintiff from the bus.”

When other partygoers on the bus complained about the harsh treatment, McCoy let Roe back on the bus but subsequently left her at a rest stop where she called police. Roe reported the incident to the New Jersey State Police who are involved in the ongoing investigation.

McCoy’s lawyer, Andrew M. Smith, told TMZ.com that the allegations against McCoy are false.

“This is sadly an attempt to extract money and LeSean will vigorously defend any attempt to collect money through a personal injury claim,” Smith said.

Roe is reportedly seeking $50,000 for the damages.

Rapper Macklemore has blown up on the radio in the last few months with songs like “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us” on heavy rotation. When songs become popular like that, they tend to be everywhere, from bars to sporting events.

An unknown person took to Manhattan on Friday for an afternoon crime spree, according to authorities, hitting five banks in the span of an hour. Police say the unarmed robber began his quest for cash at a Chase branch on the Upper East Side at 1 p.m. then went to a second Chase branch shortly thereafter.

Fifteen minutes later, the robber had made it to midtown, where he visited a Capital One bank and a Bank of America down the street from one another. He (or she) finally wrapped up their power hour of misdeeds at another Capital One on Fifth Avenue.

According to police, the robberies were carried out by simply passing a note to a teller demanding money, but the strategy had mixed results. Only two of the five robberies were successful — a 40 percent rate that many Jets fans would love to see from Mark Sanchez on his passing attempts.

Tebow gave an hour-long keynote address at Lake Michigan College on Thursday, but he declined to spend any time discussing the Jets, his release or his plans for the future. The only football talk that found its way into his speech heavy on faith and family were memories of his early playing days in high school and at the University of Florida, with a brief mention of his rookie season in Denver.

The future for the most publicized backup of all time has been very much unsettled since the Jets cut him earlier this year, with team after team very clearly stating that they have no plans on pursing him. The Patriots were the latest such club to shut the door on Tebow, as it was reported that Bill Belichick “hates” him as a player.

It would be a minor shock if Tebow is not playing football somewhere come fall, but his chances of suiting up under center for an NFL team are looking bleaker by the day.

Keeping with their tried and tested formula, NBC has announced that country singer Carrie Underwood will replace Faith Hill in the opening theme for Sunday night football games. Hill performed the song “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” for the past six seasons, and Underwood will perform a new version of the song.

The former American Idol winner was the only artist in the running for the job when Hill announced she wouldn’t be returning for a seventh season. That could have something to do with the fact that Underwood was under consideration for the role when NBC first started broadcasting NFL games on Sunday night in 2006.

Underwood does have a sports connection, too. She is married to Nashville Predators star Mike Fisher. Oh, and her most recent ex-boyfriend is Tony Romo. Underwood’s version of the song will debut on September 8, when the Giants take on — guess who — the Dallas Cowboys.

When he asked his girlfriend, Erin Marzouki, to marry him last February, Williams did so by presenting her with a $785,000 diamond engagement ring. But the two have since split up, and Marzouki reportedly is not willing to part with the 10-carat ring.

According to UltimateTexans.com, Williams is now suing Marzouki in an attempt to get the ring back on the grounds that his ex-fiancee had never intended to marry him and only went along with the engagement in order to take advantage of Williams’ sizable bank account. In addition to the ring, Marzouki also reportedly charged around $108,000 last year alone on an American Express card Williams gave her and spent another $230,000 on “additional luxury items.”

Williams’ lawyers are seeking a temporary restraining order that would prevent Marzouki from selling or tampering the ring or profiting from its sale.

In an interview with CBS New York, Ryan expressed his excitement about this year’s Jets squad and said he wouldn’t mind coaching the team for “about another 20 years.”

“Obviously the results weren’t what we wanted last year, there’s no question about that,” Ryan said. “But I’m excited about this team going forward. One thing’s for certain: whoever is on the field is going to have to earn their way on there through competition and I think that’s gonna ultimately really help out team. I believe when we take the field opening day, our guys will be popping out of their skin ready to play.”

Ryan also gave his take on the epic fail that was the Tim Tebow experiment, admitting that trading for the quarterback before last season may not have been the best idea.

“With the benefit of hindsight, it’s probably a trade that didn’t benefit the Jets or Tim,” he said. “We made the efforts, we thought it would be a good move obviously, and it just didn’t work out. I certainly hope he has success at other places.”

Tebow may be out of Ryan’s hair now, but the Jets’ quarterback situation is hardly more stable. The team has said that all five quarterbacks on the current roster, including second-round pick Geno Smith and incumbent Mark Sanchez, will be in open competition for the starting job.

The Big Lead’s Jason McIntyre cites multiple sources saying that Thompson will leave ESPN and return to FOX Sports, where she previously spent time as a sideline reporter and co-host of The Best Damn Sports Show Period.

Representatives from both networks chose not to comment on the situation, and McIntyre reports that it is unclear at this time what Thompson’s role at FOX would be.

Should she leave ESPN, though, she would be the latest in a line of prominent female sports personalities to leave the network over the past two years, following Erin Andrews (who also left for FOX), Rachel Nichols (CNN) and former SportsNation host Michelle Beadle (NBC).

FOX’s new sports-only network, FOX Sports 1, is scheduled to launch August 17.

EA Sports has announced that the 2015 edition of the annual “Tiger Woods PGA Tour” game franchise has been canceled. The company had released a new version of the game every year since its creation in 1998.

Both the Playstation and XBox systems are set to release the newest versions of their gaming consoles in early 2014, and EA Sports wanted to give their developers ample time to work on the 2016 version of the game. The 2016 edition will be compatible with both new consoles.

According to Back9Network, the cancellation had nothing to do with a parting of ways, but was simply due to bad timing.

Hopefully, Tiger will have gotten his game back by the time the newest version rolls around.

Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel and Alabama’s AJ McCarron were on opposite sides of one of the best games of the 2012 college football season, with Manziel’s Aggies knocking off the previously undefeated Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa.

But the season turned out pretty well for both parties, with Manziel going on to take home the Heisman Trophy and McCarron and the Tide recovering to win their third national title in four years, and there seems to be zero hard feelings between the two signal callers. In fact, they’re now pretty good friends.

McCarron told USA Today that he and Manziel, who met each other at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, will be embarking on a tropical vacation near the end of May.

“We’re either going to Key West or Cancun and will hang out with our other friends,” McCarron said. “Me and him, we don’t ever let that [football talk] bother us. He’s a good friend of mine, and he’s a funny dude.”

We’ll see if what is shaping up to be the most high-profile bromance in college sports — as evidenced by the tweets below — will continue to be so friendly in the days leading up to Sept. 14, when Alabama and A&M open conference play with a rematch in College Station.

Gleason spent eight seasons with the Saints as a safety/special teamer, and his blocked punt against the Falcons in the first game at the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina remains one of the most memorable plays in team history — so much so that a statue commemorating it was erected outside the stadium in 2012.

After his retirement in 2007, Gleason was diagnosed with ALS, eventually resigning him to a motorized wheelchair. He has maintained a visible role in the community, though, continuing the philanthropic work he began after Hurricane Katrina by founding the Team Gleason charity to raise money for ALS research.

He was invited by the Saints to draft night, where he announced the team’s third-round pick, offensive tackle Terron Armstead. Check out Gleason’s announcement in the video below. (Helmet sticker to SB Nation)
