This was an experiment that clearly did not work out as planned.

According to the uploader of the below YouTube video, he’s just a Maple Leafs fan who owns a GoPro camera and wanted to capture some memorable playoff moments. However, what he ended up getting was visual evidence of a memory that will probably stick in his sports-fan brain for the rest of his life.

In any case, this Leafs fan mounted his GoPro to the top of his TV, planning to record him and his friends while they watched the deciding Game 7 between Toronto and Boston in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Of course, we all know how the game ended, and this fan apparently had enough of a sense of humor to clip together a range of reactions and post it online. There’s the elation when Phil Kessel scores to put the Leafs up 3-1, and the utter heartbreak caused by Patrice Bergeron.

Check out some Maple Leafs fans going through the entire gamut of emotions in the video below.

Game 7 between the Bruins and Maple Leafs was a wild affair for everyone involved, and that includes the media as well. That especially includes media that had to make the quick trip from Toronto back to Boston for Game 7 which was just one night after Game 6.

Canadian sports network Sportsnet was one of the outlets that had to send its people back to Boston for Game 7, which is no small task. The network decided to use a GoPro camera to document the entire day beginning with waking up at 5 a.m. all the way through the end of Game 7 late Monday night.

Check it all out below.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul had himself a solid first-round series against the Bruins. He scored three goals and added an assist, but it wasn’t quite enough as the B’s won Game 7 in overtime.

The forward was held pointless in the deciding game, a game in which the Leafs blew a 4-1 third-period lead. Lupul had a chance to change the nature of the game, but he was turned away by Tuukka Rask on a breakaway.

Lupul, as one might expect, isn’t taking the loss very well. Like many of today’s athletes, Lupul turned to social media on Tuesday afternoon to share his feelings.

This is what he tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

Patrice Bergeron buried the game-tying and game-winning goals in Game 7 to send the Leafs packing. In doing so, Bergeron now joins a long list of B’s Game 7 heroes — a list that features names like Adam Oates, Ray Bourque, Brad Park and teammate Nathan Horton.

The B’s have won 13 Game 7s in team history, including victories over the Rangers in 1939, the Leafs in 1941 and the Kings in 1976. Since 1983, the B’s have won 10 Game 7s. Check out a video gallery of each Game 7 win below.

Losing in five would have stunk. Watching James Reimer let through a few more goals after his rough beginning to the postseason would have hurt. Seeing the team’s first trip to the playoffs since 2004 end in the first round was going to be painful enough.

But the Maple Leafs had to do this to their fans. They had made the Bruins look more than underwhelming in Game 5, then again in Game 6, and then had them down 4-1 deep in Game 7 on the Bruins’ home ice.

For anyone looking for the most painful way possible to lose, this was it. The Leafs not only choked up a third-period lead but also gave up two goals in the final two minutes after the Bruins pulled their goalkeeper, letting the B’s push it to overtime then finish running over them 5-4.

In a demoralizing night for all Toronto fans, the most devastated had to be those who filled Maple Leaf Square to watch the game on a big TV screen. They cheered every Toronto goal, but they were also there when things started to go very badly late in the third.

After Patrice Bergeron put the cherry on top with his final, game-winning goal in overtime, the square was a mix of fans bolting the area as fast as they could and the ones who remained, shellshocked, staring at the screen.

Check out the video below to see Maple Leaf Square after the final goal was scored, with some fans hanging their heads in dejection, others leaving in disgust and others staying glued to the screen in disbelief.

This video shows a view from above as the final goal is scored, including people scattering like ants to get away from the loss as fast as they can (check in around the 4:45 mark).

BOSTON — Tuukka Rask was one of a handful of heroes on Monday in the Bruins’ Game 7 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. It sure beats the alternative.

Rask made the big saves at the right time in Boston’s 5-4 come-from-behind overtime win, and because of it, they’re moving onto the second round. But it didn’t come without some tense moments and feelings of doubt. Those feelings obviously intensified as the Bruins fell behind 4-1 early in the third period.

However, the B’s battled back to eventually tie the game with just seconds to play. That was made possible by a big save from Rask, who made what turned out to be a huge save to keep the Bruins within two when it was 4-2. That set the stage for Milan Lucic and Patrice Bergeron to score in the final two minutes, improbably sending the game to overtime.

Of course, it’s never easy to play in OT, especially in a Game 7 and especially if you’re a goaltender.

“It’s do or die,” Rask said of overtime. “You have to make a save. You’re either a hero or you’re an [expletive].”

Rask made two saves in overtime as part of a 24-save performance in the win.

The Maple Leafs suffered an epic collapse in the final minutes of the third period of Monday night’s Game 7 against the Bruins. Toronto squandered a 4-1 lead and allowed the B’s to force a sudden-death overtime.

Leafs goalie James Reimer had a strong showing throughout the series, and played well even in Monday’s loss. Reimer made 30 saves and did everything he could to keep his team in the game, but in the end it just wasn’t enough. He described the feeling of letting the game-winner in as “heartbreaking.”

Hear what else Leafs players had to say after the loss in the video above.

BOSTON — Claude Julien stood in front of the media following Game 6 and spoke about his team as a “Jekyll and Hyde hockey club,” saying he hoped the good Bruins would show up in Game 7.

For a good 50 minutes or so, hoping was not good enough, and neither were the Bruins. The B’s found themselves improbably down 4-1 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the first round. Another early exit and another blown series lead seemed all but certain.

The Bruins’ 2013 obituary was done, and all that was needed was time of death. Bleak didn’t even begin to describe it.

But then the most improbable thing happened, and all it took was one goal. Then things got weird.

Nathan Horton scored at the 9:18 mark, and at the time, all that goal seemed to do was ensure that Phil Kessel‘s goal — Toronto’s third goal of the game — would be the game-winner. It was poetic, perhaps, but certainly not a sign the Bruins would come back.

But …

“Honestly, I knew we had what it took to come back, we just needed that one goal,” goalie Tuukka Rask said. “It was dead out there a bit after the 4-1 goal. I knew if we got one goal, then we might get another one, and then who knows what happens.”

“Honestly, even though it’s not a good feeling, I thought the guys stayed with it, stayed on the task at hand,” Patrice Bergeron added.

While the goal may have given the Bruins some temporary hope, they still found themselves on life support with less than two to play. Rask was pulled for the extra skater with the Bruins almost out of time and certainly out of hope.

Then, Milan Lucic scored with 1:32 to play — a stat-padding goal if nothing else.

But then, just a few seconds later, all hockey hell broke loose, with the hockey gods clearly smiling on the Bruins. With just 50.5 seconds to play in the 2013 season, Bergeron breathed playoff life back into the Bruins. Bergeron scored — thanks in large part to a large screen from Zdeno Chara, and TD Garden nearly had its lid blown off.

“That was unbelievable,” defenseman Johnny Boychuk said. “That’s one thing you’re going to remember probably for the rest of your life, because it was such a comeback that everybody probably thought that we were done and showed what kind of character there is in this dressing. Never say die, more or less.”

Improbably, thanks to three goals in less than 11 minutes, the Bruins had tied the game. Last rites were quickly rescinded, and it was time for overtime. In Game 7.

While some might have looked at the 18 minutes between the third period and overtime as the third intermission, it was really the “first party” of the evening. The 17,565 — or the ones that didn’t sheepishly abandon hope and leave — stood as one. They also came together to sing as one. It was not unlike the moving national anthem performances following the Boston Marathon, but then again, it was completely different. This time around, it was a party, a karaoke concert with tunes like “Living on a Prayer” and “Don’t Stop Believing” echoing around the walls of the barn on Causeway.

However, the Bruins weren’t done yet. The comeback would have been a nice story, no doubt, the Bergeron goal a moment that would never be forgotten, but it would all serve as a footnote if the Bruins didn’t win it in overtime.

“It’s do or die,” Rask said. “Either you’re a hero or an [expletive].”

It took 6 minutes and 5 seconds of hair-raising, fist-clenching madness. Frantic play back and forth, up and down the ice with two teams who were gassed. Just like that, helter-skelter hockey seemed to stand still for a second, just long enough for Bergeron to jump on a James Reimer rebound (of course) and produce one of the franchise’s marquee moments.

A sea of black and gold spilled onto the ice. A team that had been dead an hour earlier, had somehow survived. Bergeron was mobbed by his teammates, a celebration that lasted just a few moments must have felt like a few hours for the Leafs.

“I think my hearing it was about to … I was about to go deaf there,” Rask said. “It’s something you don’t experience too often in hockey and it was just fantastic.”

This is the way it goes for Jekyll and Hyde’s favorite team. The Bruins, especially under Julien, have never made it easy on themselves. With a seemingly insurmountable difference to erase and only a couple of minutes to do so, there were some who even wondered if the Julien era was in its final days.

But once again, as it did in 2011, the team’s undeniable character won the seemingly never-ending game of tug-of-war with the club’s inconsistency.

“They certainly keep you in check,” a drained Julien said after the game. “I’m a tired coach, I can tell you that much. Trying to really find a way to get these guys to give us what we want out of them, and we make it tough on ourselves.

“We’re being honest here, not being able to close it in Game 5; we’ve had trouble. We’ve always had trouble with the killer instinct. But that’s maybe a fault of ours, but a strength of ours is the character you saw tonight. There’s that fault, and then there’s that character. Somewhere along the way, you try to fix the faults, and hopefully keep that character going. That’s the biggest challenge for me right now.”

For one crazy night, however, it all worked out just fine.

The Toronto Maple Leafs looked assured of advancing to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after taking a three-goal lead against the Bruins in the third period of Monday’s Game 7. Somehow, they didn’t.

The city’s first playoff team in nine years is instead heading home after losing 5-4 to the Bruins in overtime, thanks to four unanswered Boston goals. Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer made 30 saves and played well, but he couldn’t hold down the fort during a frantic final minute that gave the B’s new life.

Instead of gearing up for their next game, Toronto fans are now left figuring out how it all went wrong, and the Toronto Sun isn’t pulling any punches in its analysis of the team’s “epic collapse.” Check out what the Sun is splashing on the front page of its sports section on Tuesday below.

Milan Lucic put the Bruins on his back in the final 11 minutes of regulation and Patrice Bergeron completed the comeback as the Bruins notched a 5-4 overtime win in Game 7 against the Maple Leafs. The Bruins faced a 4-1 deficit midway through the third period, but they surged back to survive against the upstart Leafs.

After Matt Bartkowski opened the scoring less than six minutes into the action, the Bruins watched the Leafs score four unanswered goals. When Nazem Kadri wristed the puck past Tuukka Rask early in the third period, some Bruins fans started making for the exits.

Then Lucic took over.

Lucic assisted Nathan Horton‘s goal to give the Bruins some life, then beat Leafs goalie James Reimer with a goal of his own to pull Boston within a goal with 1:22 to go in regulation. He then initiated the play that led to Bergeron’s game-tying goal with 51 seconds left, although he was not credited with an assist. Bergeron finished the job in a raucous TD Garden in overtime.

The Bruins pulled off a minor miracle on Monday night, scoring twice in the final 1:22 of Game 7 to somehow force overtime against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs appeared to be heading on to the next round after dominating play for much of the game, but three unanswered goals by the Bruins in the third period changed the complexion of the game.

Milan Lucic drove home a rebound with 1:22 to play and Patrice Bergeron followed up with the tying goal some 30 seconds later, knotting the game at 4-4 with just under a minute left to play. The Bruins nearly scored once more in the game’s closing seconds, but James Reimer and the Leafs held on to force a sudden-death overtime.

The Bruins went on to win 5-4 thanks to another Bergeron goal, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the two late goals. Check them out in the video below.

The Bruins have to score. That’s it — the simple answer.

They trail by one goal heading into what could be the final 20 minutes of their season, so they have no choice. They must score, at least once, while making sure the Maple Leafs don’t. The physical play has reached a fever pitch, but the B’s don’t have time to settle their scores with fists. They have to use their sticks, and they have to do it soon — or they won’t have another chance to this season.

NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette sets the stage for what could be the last period of Bruins hockey this year. See more in the above video.

The. Bruins. Win.

Patrice Bergeron cleans up the rebound of a Brad Marchand shot, and the Bruins win it in overtime 5-4.

Overtime, 4:21, 4-4: Tyler Seguin just got a shot on goal, but it was right into James Reimer’s chest.

Overtime, 2:54, 4-4: Zdeno Chara with the Bruins’ best chance of OT, a slap shot wide of the net.

Overtime, 2:11, 4-4: The Leafs get overtime’s best chance so far, but the Bruins get a big save from Tuukka Rask.

Overtime, 0:01, 4-4: It’s time for overtime. Don’t forget to breathe everyone.

End third period, 4-4: Overtime. In Game 7.

Third period, 19:10, 4-4: Holy bleep.

The Bruins have tied the score. Patrice Bergeron scores from the point with Zdeno Chara getting traffic in front.

Third period, 18:38, Maple Leafs 4-3: The Bruins, with the extra attacker on, have gotten within one.

Milan Lucic just cleaned up a rebound in front of the net and bangs it home. There’s still some time left…

Third period, 18:25, Maple Leafs 4-2: The Bruins’ net is empty.

Third period, 15:26, Maple Leafs 4-2; The Bruins have turned up the offensive heat, but they still have nothing to show for it. They’re putting shots on net, but their low-quality chances from the point or the tops of the dots. Once again, there’s a ton of puck cycling along the boards, and not much of anything else.

The Maple Leafs are not afraid to just hang out in the defensive zone, apparently, similar to Game 5 where the B’s attempted a comeback in the third as well. They’ll probably have chances, but converting them is a whole different story.

Third period, 9:18, Maple Leafs 4-2: Is there a good chance the Bruins come back? No, not really. Is the game over yet? Technically, no.

The Bruins just cut the lead in two with a goal from Nathan Horton, and the Bruins now trail by two.

Third period, 8:58, Maple Leafs 4-1: It’s starting to feel like the Bruins are just playing out the string here.

They do have six shots on goal here in the third — that equals their total in the second period — and they’re up to 19 for the game. However, there really haven’t been any good scoring chances, as the Leafs have done a good job of clearing out any potential second-chance opportunities.

Third period, 5:29, Maple Leafs 4-1: This one is looking like it might be just about over.

Phil Kessel is at it again, and this time it’s on the defensive end. The forward blocked a Milan Lucic shot, and then took off down the ice where he eventually fed Nazem Kadri for a goal on a 2-on-1.

Third period, 2:09, Maple Leafs 3-1: Well, it’s pretty fitting that Phil Kessel has had a great series, and he may be the one who just sent the Bruins to vacation.

Kessel cleaned up a rebound at the Bruins’ net, and Tuukka Rask was way too far away from the puck on the other side of the crease to get back and stop the rebound chance.

Third period, 0:01, Maple Leafs 2-1: Well, here we go. The Bruins are 20 minutes away from elimination, as we begin play here in the third.

Second period reaction: The Bruins are playing against a goalie who has been shaky with rebounds all series long. The Bruins have won 29 of 36 faceoffs through two periods. Yet, the Bruins only have 13 shots through two periods.

That’s becoming the story for the Bruins, as we find ourselves looking at another “meh” two-period effort from a team that is now 20 minutes away from coughing up a 3-1 series lead and heading home for the summer.

The Bruins’ offense remains the issue, as they’ve actually done a pretty good job without Dennis Seidenberg. They’ve stepped up in a big way, and have limited the really good chances for Toronto, whose second-period goal came on a shot from the point that had a lot of traffic in front.

Once again, the lack of production from the top two lines — or the guys who should be on those top two lines — is just head-scratching. Milan Lucic, Nathan Horton, Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand have combined for, wait for it, zero shots on goal through two periods.

End second period, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Bruins possessed the puck late in the period on that power play, but they couldn’t do anything with it. That’s thanks in large part to an unwillingness to shoot. Not only do they look tired, they look tight.

They’ll have 8 seconds on the power play to open the third period.

Second period, 18:08, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Bruins have a chance to tie it up before the period ends, and they’ll get it on the power play.

Joffrey Lupul was just called for tripping.

Second period, 15:14, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Bruins, as they have all year, just turned in a fantastic penalty kill. It was a PK that produced chances as well, which is something else we’ve seen all year.

The level of nasty is getting picked up, too. Joffrey Lupul and Tuukka Rask just got tangled up in the Boston net and they exchange some swipes and such.

Second period, 13:02, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Maple Leafs get another power play after Milan Lucic takes what was kind of a dumb penalty.

Lucic got into a shoving match with Dion Phaneuf behind the Toronto net, and the Toronto captain eventually just put his hands down and Lucic kept going. The Boston forward gets the rouging penalt.y

Second period, 10:38, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Bruins are starting to look like a tired team that’s undermanned, and that’s not good news for B’s fans.

The Bruins have just 11 shots on goal through a period and a half, and they’re still trying to fend off the Toronto attack, which shows no signs of letting up. We’ve still yet to see Dennis Seidenberg in the second period, and if we haven’t seen him by now, it’s unlikely he’s going to magically heal in this one.

That’s a loss that the B’s — who are playing two rookie D-men — are already starting to feel.

Second period, 5:48, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Bruins couldn’t do anything with the power play, and the Maple Leafs just made them pay for it a couple of minutes later.

Cody Franson just ripped a blast from the right point by Tuukka Rask for the defenseman’s second goal of the game, and Toronto has its first lead of Game 7.

The Maple Leafs did a great job of getting traffic in front of Rask, and it’s unlikely he ever saw the blast from the point.

Second period, 4:25, 1-1: The Bruins can’t get anything on the power play.

Tyler Seguin had a great chance from the right circle, but he missed the net. That’s becoming a recurring theme in this series.

Second period, 0:33, 1-1: The Bruins get another power play. This time it’s when Nazem Kadri interferes with Johnny Boychuk. The Boston defenseman went crashing into the boards, but he appears to be OK.

Second period, 0:01, 1-1: The second period is underway.

Dennis Seidenberg was out on the ice out of the room skating very gingerly. He took a couple of quick twirls and then back to the bench. Looked painful.

First period reaction: That was, at the very least, a very entertaining first period.

The big thing we’ll be keeping an eye on once the second period begins will be whether or not Dennis Seidenberg returns to the ice. The veteran defenseman played just two shifts in the first period. According to reports, the D-man came onto the ice at one point and took a quick twirl, but he obviously didn’t return to the game. That led to increased minutes for everyone else, including Zdeno Chara who played 10:34 in the first. Matt Bartkowski played a fine period scoring his first career goal and having a solid period defensively, which included a big hit on Joffrey Lupul.

Up front, Claude Julien finally made an adjustment with his lines by moving Jaromir Jagr up to the second line alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. It hasn’t produced anything in terms of goals yet, but they had a couple of good shifts. That’s a little more than you could say about the line previously, so it’s a step in the right direction. Tyler SEguin is now down on the third line where they haven’t done much of anything, but that’s not anything new in this series.

End first period, 1-1: The first period comes to an end, and we still haven’t seen Dennis SEidenberg since 1:44 of the period.

First period, 15:14, 1-1: The Bruins are starting to take some heat from the Maple Leafs, but Tuukka Rask is doing a nice job of keeping it tied.

He just made a big save on former Bruins prospect Joe Colborne as Colborne picked up a loose puck on the right wing and walked in fairly alone.

He did so after Matt Bartkowski pinned Joffrey Lupul to the boards with a textbook hip check. Bartkowski is having a nice game in the early going.

He’ll have to be better, though, as Dennis Seidenberg hasn’t played in about 10 minutes, with what you have to think is an injury of some sort.

First period, 12:23, 1-1: The Bruins have made a lineup change, that they’ve stuck with so far. Jaromir Jagr is up on the second line with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, and Tyler Seguin has been dropped down with Chris Kelly and Riche Peverley.

First period, 9:35, 1-1: The game is tied, thanks to another power-play goal from the Maple Leafs.

Cody Franson does a little bit of redeeming as he cleans up a rebound in front of Tuukka Rask and jams home the tying goal. Dougie Hamilton couldn’t control the rebound and Franson jumped all over it.

First period, 7:41, Bruins 1-0: Tuukka Rask just made his biggest save of the game so far, but the Bruins will have to kill off another penalty.

Rask stopped Joffrey Lupul on a breakaway, but the Toronto forward was caught with a high-stick after the play, so the Bruins will have to kill off another penalty without one of their best killers.

First period, 5:39, Bruins 1-0: The Bruins strike first.

Matt Bartkowski just scored his first career playoff goal, after a horrible giveaway from Cody Franson. David Krejci did a great job of getting in front of James Reimer.

First period, 4:12, 0-0: The Bruins killed off the penalty, but not without a couple of close chances, including a puck that rolled through the paint.

First period, 2:00, 0-0: The Maple Leafs will get the first power play of the game.

Rich Peverley picked up a tripping penalty and followed that up with a roughing penalty after the play. Nazem Kadri will go with him, though, as he’s sent off for holding.

First period, 0:01, 0-0: It’s go time. Game 7 is underway.

7:01 p.m.: So, as a giant Bruins flag makes its way across the fans in the lower bowl, NESN’s Naoko Funayama just tweeted that the Bruins aren’t going with the same line up for Game 7.

According to her, the Bruins have scratched veteran defenseman Wade Redden, meaning that both Dougie Hamilton and Matt Bartkowski will be in the lineup. That’s a bold move to say the least.

6:50 p.m.: Meant to touch on this earlier, but Tyler Bozak is out of the Toronto lineup. He didn’t even make the trip back to Boston. He was also out for Game 6.

6:38 p.m.: Pregame warmups are currently going on, and it looks like there will be no lineup changes fro the Bruins — at least if things stay the same as the pregame skate.

Here are the lines, in case you haven’t been paying attention for some reason.

Milan Lucic — David Krejci — Nathan Horton
Brad Marchand — Patrice Bergeron — Tyler Seguin
Rich Peverley — Chris Kelly — Jaromir Jagr
Daniel Paille — Gregory Campbell — Shawn Thornton

Zdeno Chara — Johnny Boychuk
Dennis Seidenberg — Adam McQuaid
Wade Redden — Dougie Hamilton

6:13 p.m.: Good evening and welcome to TD Garden for what some are saying is an unlikely Game 7 showdown between the Bruins and Maple Leafs.

Claude Julien just got done speaking to the media, and the biggest news that came from that is that Andrew Ference is out for Game 7. He was also out for Game 6, so he’s obviously dealing with something pretty substantial. According to one report, Ference had a walking boot on as he entered the Garden.

2:30 p.m.: Now it’s time to take a look at some meaningless stats that will mean absolutely nothing in Game 7, but we bring them up to pass the time and fill the space.

So here we go.

The Bruins are 12-11 all time in Game 7s. The Maple Leafs are 12-9 in the same situation.

This is the fifth time that the Bruins have been taken to a Game 7 in a series in which they’ve led 3-1. They’re 2-2 in the other four times that’s happened. The most recent, of course, came in 2010 when the Bruins blew a 3-0 series lead, and they blew a 3-1 lead in 2004 against Montreal as well.

This is the third time in history that the Bruins and Leafs have met in a Game 7. It’s the first since 1959, which Toronto won at Boston.

The Maple Leafs have come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a series just once in their history. That came in 1942 when they came back from down 3-0 to beat the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Final.

All of these stats, however, mean absolutely nothing because what in the world does 1942 have to do with Game 7 of this series? Not a whole lot, obviously. But it’s fun to look at, I guess.

2 p.m.: The Bruins obviously aren’t doing much of anything before Game 7 given the quick turnaround between Games 6 and 7. Oh, that, and the fact that they woke up in Toronto.

The B’s got back to Boston just a few hours ago after spending the night in Toronto. The team plane had a malfunction, and they were stuck in Toronto until about 8 a.m. this morning. Here’s a pretty good account of the Bruins’ night, which featured a late-night meal. The owners of the restaurant the B’s dined at are on their way to Boston for Game 7 after the Boston organization hooked them up with tickets.

Bruins players are scheduled to be available to the media at 4:30 Monday afternoon, and head coach Claude Julien will meet with the media at 5:50 p.m.

8 a.m. ET: Just a few days ago, it seemed like the Bruins were a lock to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The B’s held a 3-1 lead in their series with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and all seemed good for the Black and Gold.

However, as has been the case for much of the year, inconsistency caught up with the Bruins, and now they’re left to play a Game 7 with their season on the line. The Bruins (will eventually) return to Boston on Monday, and they’ll have the Leafs waiting for them in a winner-take-all, do-or-die showdown. The B’s will already be up against it, after malfunctions with the team’s airplane forced the Bruins to stay in Toronto on Sunday night. They were scheduled to fly into Boston on Monday morning, just hours ahead of what could be their final game of the season.

That’s not where the bad omens end, either. The Bruins and Leafs, of course, will be forced to play on consecutive nights. The B’s were just 3-5 on the back end of back-to-backs this season, and they were just 1-8-1 on the final game of stretches in which they played three games in four nights, which is what they’ll do Monday night.

However, the Bruins have been here before. This will be the eighth Game 7 that they’ve played under head coach Claude Julien. They enter Monday night with a 3-4 record in those games, with all three wins coming in the team’s 2011 Stanley Cup run. The Bruins were knocked out in the first round last season, when they lost to the Washington Capitals in Game 7 of the first round.

Everything’s bigger in a Game 7. The stage, the hits, the highs and lows … everything.

The Bruins and Maple Leafs are proving that on Monday night, after a frantic period that has already seen more momentum swings than many fans were probably hoping for — but knew were coming nonetheless. That’s just how these things work, no matter how many times you’ve been through it before.

NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette is pretty much just hanging on for dear life at this point, just like everybody else. See more from him in the above video.

It all comes down to this. Game 7 between the Bruins and Maple Leafs will decide who goes home and who advances to the next round. Luckily, the Bruins have been here before.

On their epic Stanley Cup run, the B’s won three Game 7′s, including a first-round overtime victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The Maple Leafs, on the other hand, have no such experience. That could end up playing in their favor, however, if they don’t bend under the pressure that comes with a winner-take-all showdown.

The Maple Leafs defenseman took a Milan Lucic shot to the forehead and required surgery to repair a broken bone in “his cranial area.” Days after the surgery rook place, a Reddit user uploaded a photo of what he or she claims to be Fraser’s CT scan from St. Michael’s Hospital. The user, however, has been erased from Reddit.com, and the hospital claims it followed proper procedures and never released it to the public, according to NationalPost.com.

“St. Michael’s can release images only to a patient or the patient’s requesting physician,” the hospital said in a release Monday. “We investigated today whether this scan had been released inappropriately. Our investigation showed that proper procedures were followed.”

Nothing’s ever easy in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the Bruins are certainly no strangers to that after losing to the Maple Leafs in Game 6. That means that there will be a winner-take-all Game 7 on Monday night at the TD Garden, where the winner advances to the next round and the loser’s offseason starts earlier than they’d prefer.

Phil Kessel scored another game-winning goal against his old team to electrify the Air Canada Centre crowd, who rained down “Thank you, Seguin” chants directed at Tyler Seguin his suddenly scuffling Boston teammates. If NHL fans have learned anything from the past, though, it’s that everything is up for grabs in a Game 7.

The Leafs looked like a team playing at full capacity on Sunday night, but a quick turnaround for Monday’s final showdown will test their resilience. If they continue getting superior efforts like the one that resulted in Kessel’s goal, however, it could end up being the Bruins who are tested.

Check out video of the crowd taunting the Bruins in the video below.

Hail to the King

The Maple Leafs weren’t the only team entering Sunday night with their backs against the wall, however. The New York Rangers needed a win of their own against the Washington Capitals to give themselves a chance at winning the series in seven as well. Luckily, they had Henrik Lundqvist on their side.

The Vezina Trophy finalist looked the part against the Caps in his must-win Game 6, notching a 1-0 shutout victory to send the series back to Washington. Alex Ovechkin had a tremendous chance to alter that outcome with five minutes remaining in the second period, but Lundqvist was ready. Watch the play unfold below.

Foot soldiers

As if Game 7 wasn’t enough drama on its own, there appears to be plenty of extra emotion brewing between the Capitals and Rangers to boot. After their Game 6 loss, the Caps were none too pleased with the play of New York winger Derek Dorsett.

Capitals coach Adam Oates and defenseman Karl Alzner accused Dorsett of a slew-foot after the game, when asked to explain a penalty that Mike Green took in the third period by cross-checking Dorsett in the face. The play in question appears relatively innocuous upon a second viewing, but the leftover emotions smoldered for both sides all game.

Once the final whistle sounded on a chippy game, the two teams broke out into a scrum near the New York goal and set the stage for what should be a spirited Game 7. Check out the extracurriculars in the video below.

Poor Tom Wilson

It’s safe to say that more than 18,000 fans (plus players) at Madison Square Garden were laughing at the 19-year-old Washington Capitals rookie on Sunday.

Wilson, playing in just his second NHL game ever, busted a skate blade and the video of him struggling to get back to the bench falls into the class of those “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up,” ad campaigns for Life Alert.

Now the 25-year-old netminder is making himself an unwelcome household name in New England.

Reimer came through with another stout effort in goal for the Maple Leafs on Sunday, stopping 29 of the 30 shots the Bruins put on goal. The Leafs’ 2-1 win in Game 6 forced a do-or-die Game 7 at TD Garden on Monday.

The stage was set for a tight finish when both teams started the third period scoreless. The Bruins must not have gotten the memo that the second intermission had ended, though, because the Leafs quickly took a 1-0 edge on Dion Phaneuf‘s wrister from Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk. Then Phil Kessel, who now seems intent on being a thorn in the Bruins’ side, netted the eventual game-winner, giving van Riemsdyk his second assist of the game in the process. By the time Milan Lucic got the Bruins on the scoreboard in the final minute, the Bruins were already making plans for Monday’s game.

The Bruins couldn’t score in the final half-minute, and that’s it. The B’s have a lot of work to do, with Game 7 less than 24 hours away.

Third period, 19:35, Maple Leafs 2-1: The Bruins just scored, but there’s still a long way to go.

Milan Lucic banged home a gorgeous pass from Jaromir Jagr, and they’re within one with 24.5 seconds to play.

Third period, 17:04, Maple Leafs 2-0: It just came very close to being a 3-0 game, but Tuukka Rask made a big save on Phil Kessel.

The Bruins’ fourth line tried to take advantage of that at the other end, and it had a chance when Gregory Campbell found Daniel Paille all alone on the right wing, but Paille put the one-timer chance right into James Reimer’s midsection.

It certainly looks like there will be a Game 7.

Third period, 13:19, Maple Leafs 2-0: The Bruins look like a tired team right now. That doesn’t bode well, considering the fact that an eventual Game 7 — which looks like a certainty right now — will start in less than 24 hours.

Third period, 8:59, Maple Leafs 2-0: The Bruins iced the puck at an unfortunate time, and it cost them dearly.

Patrice Bergeron was beat cleanly on a faceoff in the Boston end that led to James van Riemsdyk shot. Tuukka Rask couldn’t control the rebound, and that second chance was jumped on by Phil Kessel, who beat Rask with a backhander.

Third period, 6:59, Maple Leafs 1-0: The Bruins look pretty sloppy with the puck right now, but they did just get a pretty good chance to tie the game.

Tyler Seguin was the beneficiary of a Patrice Bergeron pass from behind the net that Seguin tried to beat James Reimer with, but Seguin couldn’t quite lift the puck enough.

Meanwhile, Johnny Boychuk made a fantastic play to break up a 2-on-1 a little bit before that to keep it a one-goal game.

Third period, 1:48, Maple Leafs 1-0: The Maple Leafs are the first on the board.

Dion Phaneuf just carried the puck up ice into the Boston zone, where he beat Tuukka Rask on the goalie’s glove side to give Toronto the lead less than two minutes into the third period.

Third period, 0:01, 0-0: The third period has begun.

Second period reaction: This has turned into a terrific hockey game.

The two teams are going back and forth at a much greater pace in the second period that’s been punctuated with some great saves from both James Reimer and Tuukka Rask. On multiple occasions, the two goalies stood on their heads to keep it scoreless, with Reimer making a couple of big saves on one of Patrice Bergeron’s line’s best shifts, as well as two glove saves from Rask on Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf.

The Bergeron line has been much better. It started the second period with a good shift that included some great forechecking from Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand. That has snowballed some, with that line combining for seven shots through two periods and a few scoring chances.

Claude Julien, after giving Dougie Hamilton some good ice time in the first period, has cut down on his time in the second period. Hamilton only played just three shifts for 1:31 in the second.

End second period, 0-0: The second period just came to an end after arguably the best save of this period.

Tuukka Rask made a tremendous glove save on a Dion Phaneuf one-timer from the left point.

Second period, 15:49, 0-0: This time it’s the Bruins’ third line generating their chances.

Rich Peverley did a great job of carrying the puck into the Toronto zone down toward the goal line, where he put a backhanded attempt on net that James Reimer got over to get a piece of and also was helped along by the post.

However, anything the Bruins are missing the net on or turning over is going the other way. The Maple Leafs are looking fast.

Second period, 12:04, 0-0: Things are starting to open up a little bit, and that has made for some more entertaining hockey. The two teams are getting up and down the ice, and they’re throwing some big hits.

Tuukka Rask continues to look very good, though. He made a big-time glove save on a streaking Phil Kessel a few minutes ago to keep the game scoreless.

Second period, 6:11, 0-0: The good news for the Bruins is that the Patrice Bergeron line just turned in a terrific shift in the Toronto zone.

That shift produced at least two fantastic chances, but James Reimer is carrying momentum over from Game 5, apparently. The Toronto goalie went across his crease to stop a Patrice Bergeron wraparound chance, and a few seconds later, he stopped a shot from the left point with his left pad.

He’s the reason it’s scoreless still.

Second period, 0:01, 0-0: The second period is underway.

First period reaction: Not a whole lot going on in the first period, and I get the feeling that Claude Julien won’t mind.

The Bruins were very efficient defensively in the first period, and that was reflected by the fact that the Maple Leafs only put seven shots on goal. More importantly, none of those shots were very good chances, as Tuukka Rask saw just about everything that was sent his way.

On the offensive end for the Bruins, however, there wasn’t much to be thrilled about. The power play was ugly once again, producing just one shot on two power plays, and that’s just the start. The B’s put eight shots on net in the first period, and like the Leafs, they were devoid of any real good chances. The Bruins did do a good job of getting in on the forecheck and tilting the ice. The first few minutes of the period look like the second half of the third period in Game 5.

Still nothing out of the Patrice Bergeron line for the Bruins. That line only attempted four shots in the first, and only two of those were on net. Brad Marchand only saw 3:49 of ice time.

End first period, 0-0: An ugly first period just came to an end with no score.

The Bruins couldn’t do anything with the ensuing power play on the James van Riemsdyk penalty, and that sealed the scoreless first period.

First period, 17:52, 0-0: There goes the Toronto power play.

James van Riemsdyk was just called for interfering with Tuukka Rask as the Toronto forward did nothing to avoid Rask after being pushed down. It looked like JVR may have even thrown his right elbow out in the process.

First period, 16:28, 0-0: The Bruins had started to play better after the midway mark of the first period, but they just took step backward, thanks to a Toronto power play.

Adam McQuaid tried to slow Clarke MacArthur behind the Boston net, which the Boston D-man did. However, he interfered with MacArthur in the process.

First period, 11:20, 0-0: Once again, the Bruins aren’t getting much of anything from any line that’s not the David Krejci line.

The line just got a couple of shots on net, with some good work up top from Dougie Hamilton and Wade Redden. The Bruins are out-shooting the Maple Leafs 6-3 in the early going. It’s been kind of sloppy on both sides.

First period, 4:18, 0-0: The Bruins got nothing on the power play, and they didn’t really do much of anything.

That was an ugly one, and the man-advantage goes by the wayside.

First period, 2:12, 0-0: The Bruins get the game’s first power play.

John-Michael Liles just flipped the puck over the glass, and the B’s get the power play.

First period, 0:10, 0-0: Finally, it’s time for hockey. The game is underway.

7:35 p.m.: Tyler Bozak appears to be out for Toronto. It will be former Bruins prospect Joe Colborne who takes his place.

7:25 p.m.: The Bruins’ forward lines are the same, according to pregame skate. They’ve been the same since Game 2.

Here’s what they look to be going with yet again:

Milan Lucic — David Krejci — Nathan Horton
Brad Marchand — Patrice Bergeron — Tyler Seguin
Rich Peverley — Chris Kelly — Jaromir Jagr
Daniel Paille — Gregory Campbell — Shawn Thornton

7:12 p.m.: Well, the Bruins threw a curveball with the morning skate defensive pairings, apparently. According to pregame skate, both Dougie Hamilton and Wade Redden are in the lineup. That means that not only is Matt Bartkowski out, but the Bruins will be splitting up the top pairing of Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg.

Here are the pregame D-pairings.

Zdeno Chara — Johnny Boychuk
Dennis Seidenberg — Adam McQuaid
Wade Redden — Dougie Hamilton

7:10 p.m.: There were some reports circulating that Tyler Bozak might not be in the lineup for Game 6. If the pregame warmup is any indication, he’ll be playing. Bozak was out there for the pregame skate, and he was with his usual line.

6:56 p.m.: As we take in the end of the Capitals-Rangers game, we’re just a few minutes away from warmups in Toronto. That’s when we should know what the Bruins will do with their defensive pairs.

12:45 p.m.: The Bruins will not have Andrew Ference for Game 6 of their series with the Maple Leafs. The veteran defenseman didn’t even make the trip.

Claude Julien revealed Sunday after morning skate that Ference is “day-to-day” with something and that the D-man didn’t make the trip.

Here were the pairs at morning skate, according to the team’s Twitter account.

Zdeno Chara — Dennis Seidenberg
Matt Bartkowski — Adam McQuaid
Aaron Johnson — Johnny Boychuk
Wade Redden — Dougie Hamilton

The Bruins will obviously go with only six D-men. Aaron Johnson hasn’t played since March 30, so it’s unlikely he’ll be in. That means the final spot likely comes down to Wade Redden and Dougie Hamilton. That’s assuming, of course, that Matt Bartkowski is back in the lineup after playing in Game 5. Hamilton played Game 2 when Ference was suspended, while Redden sat out Game 5 with an undisclosed situation.

So there’s a lot to sort through there. Unsurprisingly, Julien said the lineup will be a game-time decision.

8 a.m ET: The Bruins have unfinished business, and if they’re unable to take care of it Sunday night in Toronto, it’s going to get really, really uncomfortable for the B’s.

Boston heads back to Toronto on Sunday night for Game 6 of the first-round series with the Maple Leafs, where the Bruins will make their second attempt to close out the series. Boston, which holds a 3-2 lead, had a chance to close things out Friday night in Boston in Game 5. The Maple Leafs came out with a desperate effort, however, and were able to come away with the 2-1 win.

For the Bruins, it’s time to channel some desperation of their own. The B’s were unable to do much of anything for about 50 minutes in Game 5, and it came back to bite them. They eventually tilted the ice in the third before Zdeno Chara finally broke through for Boston on the scoreboard, but it was a classic case of too little, too late.

Now the Maple Leafs head home to play in front of a rowdy Air Canada Centre crowd. Goalie James Reimer is coming off of his best game of the series in Game 5, where he made 40 saves, including 18 in the third period. The Leafs will need another big effort out of him if they want to extend the series. They’re certainly expecting the Bruins to come with a much better effort Sunday night.

“I’m sure that we’ve poked the Bruins,” he said Friday night. “And they’re going to be a very desperate hockey club come Sunday night, and we’ve got to be equally as desperate.”

If the Bruins aren’t desperate, they could very well find themselves heading to Game 7. There wouldn’t be much time for rest and contemplation, however, as Game 7 — if necessary — is scheduled for Monday night in Boston. They’re hoping that it doesn’t get to that.

Puck drop from Toronto is set for 7:30 p.m.
