Daniel Nava isn’t on the All-Star ballot this year, but that’s nothing new. After all, the outfielder has been under-appreciated and overlooked his entire career — until now.

Nava’s breakout campaign has forced the world to see him for the success story that he is, and that story will hopefully include a new chapter from Citi Field this summer. While Red Sox fans are writing in Nava for the Midsummer Classic, there’s no guarantee that will be enough to sneak him into the big game. If he keeps hitting like he has been, however, it just might be.

Thank goodness the Bruins took care of business in regulation in Game 3. Otherwise, Boston fans would likely be dealing with a serious sleep debt after enduring two extra-inning games and two overtime games in the last few days.

The bad news is that true fans will likely be dealing with some late-night sports once again on Tuesday, with the Sox playing their doubleheader against the Rays around a three-hour rain delay. The good news is that they’ve gotten at least one win out of the day.

It went overlooked that Dustin Pedroia was hit by a pitch the last time the Rays and Red Sox met, just a week ago, says WEEI’s Rob Bradford. However, there’s always something simmering just beneath the surface when these two teams meet, so could that have been the start of something bigger?

Bradford appeared on Red Sox GameDay LIVE on Tuesday to discuss the historically bad blood between Boston and Tampa Bay. Bradford says that although there may be no public disputes currently between the clubs, that doesn’t mean things couldn’t change in a matter of moments.

The Clay Buchholz situation has been a frustrating one for everybody involved, no doubt, but neck injuries are a tricky thing. However, as The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo says, Buchholz is calling all the shots in his rehab and won’t push himself too far just to avoid a stint on the disabled list.

As of Tuesday, Buchholz’s scheduled side session had been pushed back from before Game 1 of the Red Sox-Rays doubleheader to between the games. If Buchholz is unable to go by then, however, a roster move could be imminent.

The fourth line of Gregory Campbell, Shawn Thornton and Daniel Paille was a force of nature during the Bruins’ dismantling of the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Campbell’s broken leg threw his linemates into limbo, though, with coach Claude Julien experimenting with numerous lineup combinations before settling on one over the weekend that has been strikingly effective.

A revamped third line of Paille, Chris Kelly and Tyler Seguin was the best grouping on the ice for much of the Bruins’ 2-1 overtime win over the Blackhawks in Game 2, and they came through again Monday night. Paille, who netted the game-winning goal in overtime on Saturday, struck first in Game 3, pickpocketing Dave Bolland in the Chicago zone and firing a shot past Corey Crawford.

That tally again proved to be the game-winner for the B’s, and Julien showered his versatile forward with praise after the game. Check out what he had to say to NESN’s Jack Edwards in the video above.

Jaromir Jagr has done everything except score for the Bruins this postseason, and that’s OK. While the 41-year-old forward is still searching for his first goal of the playoffs, the Bruins have kept on giving him chances — because they keep winning.

Now, in the final round of the postseason, Jagr is still leading the way even without breaking through. In Game 3, he helped the B’s to victory not with a tally but with a picture-perfect assist to Patrice Bergeron to pad a lead. For that and for more, he’s our “Veteran Presents” player of the game. In Game 2, the Blackhawks were clearly the better team for the first 20 minutes of gameplay. In Game 3, the B’s came out hot. However, in both cases, the teams failed to build commanding leads — a fact they may both come to regret.

Despite Marian Hossa‘s conspicuous absence for the Hawks, the Bruins couldn’t sneak one past Corey Crawford to ensure they’d have some momentum from Chicago’s misfortune. Now, with the game in full swing and both teams getting chances, the B’s will have to make sure they don’t suffer the same fate as the Blackhawks and squander a golden opportunity.

They call the Blackhawks’ home arena the Madhouse on Madison, but now it’s time for the TD Garden to show Chicago what it’s like to play in a really crazy environment.

The Stanley Cup Final shifts to Boston for Game 3 of what has been an overtime-filled affair so far, and the fans of Beantown will be licking their chops at the chance to have another taste of playoff hockey at its finest. Considering the emotional nature of the Bruins’ Game 2 victory, the boys in black and gold should be amped to be back in front of their home crowd with a chance to grab a series lead — no matter how many overtimes await.

The Bruins got a chance to rest on Sunday after two grueling games on the ice in Chicago.

The B’s were able to make it out of the Windy City with a 1-1 split in the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final, but after just one period in Game 2, it seemed like they might not have had it in them. Head coach Claude Julien said that during the first intermission he held his players accountable for their poor play, and the team’s natural leaders stepped up to push the team to an eventual 2-1 victory in overtime.

Mike Carp‘s fantastic season took a slight detour on Sunday.

The first baseman exited Sunday’s game against the Orioles in the seventh inning with tightness in his right hamstring. The issue doesn’t appear too serious though, and Carp anticipates that he will be ready to go for Tuesday’s matchup against the Rays.

Carp has been red-hot so far in June, and says he feels confident that he won’t have to miss any time. Hear what Carp said after Sunday’s 6-3 loss in the video above.

In the early 1970s, the birthplace of Babe Ruth was almost demolished. Thankfully, the city of Baltimore and a group of citizens made sure that did not happen, and in 1973 the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum opened to the public.

Today, the museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the Bambino’s life, including some rare baseball cards and the earliest known signature of Ruth — from way back when he was still pitching in the schoolyard.

Craig Breslow is one of the most intelligent, well-spoken players in Major League Baseball, so who better to give advice to the youngsters? A group of Little Leaguers from Avon, Conn. stopped by Red Sox GameDay LIVE on Sunday, and Breslow was kind enough to take some time and answer questions for the kids from Baltimore.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for a Yale alum, Breslow touted the advantages of getting an education to the kids. He also spoke of subjects beyond baseball, and generally how to become a well-rounded human being.

On Tuesday, the Red Sox have a doubleheader at home against the Tampa Bay Rays. With Clay Buchholz still unable to go, it’s creating some turmoil among the Boston pitching staff.

Before taking on the Orioles on Sunday, manager John Farrell spoke to the media about the team’s veritable carousel of pitchers moving back and forth between Pawtucket and the big club. Farrell said that Alfredo Aceves is slated to start during the doubleheader, and that Allen Webster may soon reappear at Fenway.

The days of flashy goals and all the glory are behind 41-year-old Jaromir Jagr — and he knows it. The veteran player hasn’t scored once in the playoffs but has assisted on seven goals in 18 games.

Despite not being the center of attention, Jagr has showcased his strong work ethic, putting in late-night skating sessions to work on his conditioning. Those extra hours seem to be paying off as the forward’s game improved as Game 2 progressed in Chicago. At the end of the day, Jagr said, he just wants to help the team.

The Blackhawks were by far the superior team through the first two periods of Game 2 — everywhere except on the scoreboard.

There, the Bruins were equal because of an improbable Chris Kelly goal that breathed life back into a Boston team that looked to be on its last legs. Instead, they’ll have another 20 minutes to fight for a win, something that seemed would be all but impossible until moments before Kelly’s tally.

The Blackhawks wasted little time putting the pressure on the Bruins in Game 2, but the B’s are hanging around.

Boston is probably lucky to only be trailing by one goal after a frantic first period, in which Tuukka Rask made more saves than Corey Crawford might have to all game. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette is a little worried about the B’s, but he knows this could have gotten out of hand a lot more easily.

An injury is nothing to play with, and Clay Buchholz wants to be sure he’s fully ready before making another appearance on the mound for the Red Sox.

Buchholz will not make his start Tuesday because he is still feeling stiffness in his neck and battling an issue with his AC joint after leaving in the seventh inning against the Yankees one week ago. The right-hander said that he doesn’t want to risk taking a step backward in trying to come back to the mound too quickly.

A decision about whether or not Buchholz will see time on the disabled list has not been made, but it is still possible. Hear Buchholz talk about his return timeline in the video above.

The Bruins have been in a 0-2 deficit before in the Stanley Cup Final and lived to tell about it, so playing two games’ worth of hockey on Wednesday night and only ending up down by one game isn’t the end of the world. Still, you can bet that this edition of the B’s would like to avoid digging out of that big hole once again, so they’ll be coming out firing on Saturday for Game 2.

With an extra day of rest to shake off the sorrows that might accompany a triple-overtime loss, the Bruins should be rarin’ to drop the puck once more against the Blackhawks. Throw in the fact that they’ve been getting quite a bit of rest over the last two rounds of the postseason, well, and you might just have yourself a recipe for a comeback.

In the sabermetric revolution, BABIP is one of the key, sexy stats — and it’s making an appearance on Red Sox GameDay LIVE.

As Tom Caron mentions, the fact that Jose Iglesias has such a high BABIP doesn’t necessarily bode well going forward. What’s BABIP, you ask? Well, it’s “batting average on balls in play,” which basically takes a player’s batting average, but ignores at-bats that ended in a strikeout or home run. A player’s BABIP almost always trends back to .300 eventually — no matter who they are — and right now Iglesias’ sits at .522.

What that means is Iglesias likely won’t be sporting a 1.080 OPS for much longer. But, just because the youngster is primed for a regression doesn’t mean he hasn’t made huge strides at the plate over the last year. In fact, Caron mentions Iglesias’ speed as a factor that makes his hot start less of an illusion.

With all his teammates taking on the Orioles in Baltimore, Mike Napoli is about 400 miles northeast, back at home in Boston. Unfortunately, it’s not just some scheduled time off for the first baseman.

Napoli had to be removed during the third inning of Thursday’s contest against the Rays, complaining of dizziness and nausea. He hasn’t been right since then, so the Red Sox sent Napoli back to Boston to get a proper diagnosis and hopefully have him back on the field sooner rather than later.
