The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Matt Cassel to a six-year deal worth $63 million, ESPN.com reports.

Because the Patriots placed the franchise tag on Cassel before
trading him to the Chiefs, he was due to receive $14.56 million this
year and was not under contract beyond this season. Cassel, however,
opted to take more money in the long term.

Of the $63 million in the reported deal, $28 million is guaranteed. Last year, Cassel made just more than $500,000.

Stepping in for an injured Tom Brady in Week 1,
Cassel proved that he could be a viable starter in the NFL, throwing 21
touchdowns with 11 interceptions to go with nearly 3,700 yards.

According to the report, the Chiefs are expected to make an announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
