They couldn’t seem to buy a run during a three-game sweep against Texas and haven’t won since their first game back from the All-Star break. Something needs to change, but unfortunately, nobody knows what the problem is.
“It was definitely a tough road trip for us,” centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury said after Wednesday’s game. “It was uncharacteristic for us to go that many games without hitting the ball, but it will be nice for us to have the off-day and get ready to go again.”
Ellsbury went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Wednesday night, but he wasn’t the only one to struggle: Only four members of the Sox were able to manage hits in the series finale against the Rangers.
Hopefully, once they get back within the friendly confines of Fenway Park, Boston will be able to make something happen on offense.
“There’s really no explanation for [the slump],” Ellsbury said. “The biggest thing is we’ve been getting good pitching, too, so that’s maybe what makes it frustrating. We’ve all been in those kind of ruts before, so we just need to stay with it and, you know, we’ll get out of it.”
