When the Red Sox return to action after the midseason break, a familiar face will be waiting for them in Toronto.

Michael Silverman from the Herald is reporting that Jed Lowrie will be back with the team on Friday and is expected to be activated on Saturday July 18, a date the team has pegged for a couple of weeks now.

“Every day I play I feel like I’m getting better,” Lowrie said in
the report. “I know the major league game is different no matter how
you approach it. No matter how ready I am down here, I’m going to have
to shake out some rust, but I feel like I’m ready.”

The shortstop will play two more games with the Lowell Spinners this week before heading north to meet up with his major league mates.

“Every day I play I’m getting more confidence,” he said. “I’m getting back into shape. Nine innings isn’t a marathon anymore.”

Lowrie underwent wrist surgery in late April after getting just 18
at bats in five contests for the Sox this season. Last year, he notched
a .258 batting average with 25 doubles, 46 RBIs and 67 hits in 81 games
in place of the injured Julio Lugo.

What will manager Terry Francona do at shortstop, a position already crowded with Lugo and Nick Green?
